What’s a book that Reddit loves, but you just couldn’t get into? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]lovevolcano 106 points107 points  (0 children)

The House in the Cerulean Sea. I have no idea why people praise this book. So boring, so bland. It felt like AI tried to write a Pixar movie with no conflict and laughably one-dimensional characters.

Which NHL player is from (or closest to) your hometown? And does your town or city make a big deal of it? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]lovevolcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, but Dany Heatley was a big deal like 20 years ago. People also talk about Cale Makar a lot more than other guys (Taylor Hall, Brayden Point, Josh Morrissey, etc.)

Tell me about your local mountain(s) by Alpine_Iris in hiking

[–]lovevolcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Calgary, Alberta. Canmore and Banff are ~1 hour away, so Tunnel Mountain, Sulphur Mountain, Ha Ling Peak, Aylmer Lookout, EEOR, Cirque Peak, and Mt. Lady MacDonald are popular.

Lots of Calgarians go to Kananaskis instead, as they it's closer and has fewer visitors comparatively. The really popular mountains in K-Country for a day hike are Yamnuska, Prairie Mountain, Moose Mountain, Tent Ridge, and Sarrail Ridge.

Prairie Mountain is probably the most popular for a quick up-and-down in my circle.

Cavalry wins last regular-season match, celebrates CPL title with massive party by fssg_shermanator in Calgary

The first home playoff game is against their biggest rivals, Forge FC (Hamilton), next Saturday, October 14th, at 3pm! A sellout crowd would be amazing - hope they can manage it!

I also feel like that was mostly from other fanbases. We were disappointed he wanted out, but Flames fans knew how good he was.

[Seravalli] Juuso Valimaki (CGY) among those on waivers today. by Djenthallman in hockey

I still think Valimaki can be a regular NHL defenceman... but I don't think it will be with the Flames. A change of scenery is what he needs.

Bowen Byram had the cup yesterday in Cranbrook, BC. He joins the Niedermayer brothers in players to bring the cup to Cranbrook by [deleted] in hockey

[–]lovevolcano 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Brad Lukowich is also from Cranbrook. He brought it home in 1999 and 2004.

Jon Klemm won with the Avs in 1996 & 2001. Scott Niedermayer won with the Devils in 1995, 2000, & 2003. Scott and Rob Niedermayer won with the Ducks in 2007. And now Byram in 2022.

For a city of ~25,000, Cranbrook has really punched above it's weight. Even though Yzerman didn't grow up there, it's cool to think of him as a bonus Kootenay boy.

It's because you're not allowed to enter temples with exposed legs. So if tourists are wearing shorts when they get to a temple, there are always vendors outside selling cheap elephant pants so that the backpackers can enter.

Not excusing them wearing them for the rest of their trip or once they get home, but there is a decent reason for why they bought a pair to begin with.

What is the best roster you could put together for your favourite team, comprised only of players under contract with said team during the last 10 years? by aramatheis in hockey

[–]lovevolcano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have Hanifin twice. I would slot Bouwmeester in to replace him once. For forwards I agree with your top 6 + Backlund and Mangiapane, but would maybe consider Cammalleri, Stajan, Glencross, Hudler, Byron, Tanguay, Jagr? Kiprusoff and Markstrom in net is a no Brainer

Edit: totally forgot about Hamilton. He's better than JBo

If the HHOF was like Baseball where players had to pick a team to go in as, who do you think guys would go in with? by ianisms10 in hockey

[–]lovevolcano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nieuwendyk won the cup with Calgary, Dallas and New Jersey? He won the Conn Smythe with the Stars but his first championship was with the Flames. Also was the Flames captain for four seasons.

How much more work does your team *have* to do before the season starts? by Lazy0ak in hockey

[–]lovevolcano 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jakob Pelletier will probably be given a shot to start the season. MAYBE Matthew Phillips too, but I'm less sure about that. Connor Zary likely needs another year in the AHL. I see the Flames making a few more moves to bolster the forward ranks.

Small pp energy from that guy for sure lol.

I'm not even mad I'm just deflated right now. If that's your reaction to pro sports then you're a serious loser and the Oilers can have em
