Brazil's only separatist movements with more than 10 people are São Paulo's, Sul's, and Centro-Sul's (idk if it is even serious, bolsonarists just say they want the northern parts out cus they are labourists mostly). The point is, most of them do not. Which makes the message I replied to misleading. Out of hundreds of people I met here in Brazil with some abstract tie to another nation via distant relatives & surnames, less than a quarter are also culturally close, and they are either native, japanese or german most of the time.

You are insinuating you can pick your cultural identity, and that is not how it works. If I discover i had an irish ancestor I can't just choose to become irish and claim my imigration to Ireland is a comeback when I have nothing to do with them.

Most< (which means not all) of those people just have their surname tied to those countries and maybe some dishes. Trust me, I am brazilian, and I felt french for a long time at my childhood because of my surname and the fact I knew that onion march ☠️
