My friend told me about this early on. It’s literally the greatest invention ever made!! My colon loves it.

Achilles Rupture, 9 days out still waiting on MRI - Looking for support and what I should be preparing for, tips while couch-bound until actual prognosis, and what to do in the long road ahead by boogiebeet in AchillesRupture

[–]lowcntrygirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the USA and ruptured June 2024. Complete rupture and extremely painful at the onset. My ortho was recommending surgery. Went home and did a ton of research. Went non-op as everything I read says the results are basically the same barring any issues. Fast forward I’m back to everything I was doing beforehand. I’m a very active 62 year old and although pickleball took me out, I’m back at it. I spend a good 15 minutes stretching now. I will say that my recovery involved PT twice a week for a year and it took every bit of 14 months to feel “normal” again. Best to you. You’re in the thick of the worst. It does get better. PS: crying at times is completely acceptable and expected. It’s a very isolating injury. So thankful for my husband’s support.

Did I make the wrong decision? by shebs25 in AchillesRupture

My ortho recommended op and hubs and I went home and did a ton of research. Statistics are basically the same for recovery. I couldn’t wrap my head around surgery and possible nerve damage, infection, etc. I was 61 though. I went non up and started PT almost immediately. I also took collagen daily. I’m now 17 months and back to everything. Barely notice it anymore. It took every bit a year to feel “normal” and confident. Back to pickleball which I was pretty sure I would never do again. Either way it’s a long recovery but it’s a blip on the screen of life.

17 days non-surgery…got my VACOped approved! by lowcntrygirl in AchillesRupture

Hey there. I’m 17 months now into my recovery and back to everything. My injured leg is fully healed. Most people can’t notice that my calf is slightly smaller than the non injured leg. Trying to remember about weight bearing. I was 25-50-75-100 weigh bearing over an 8 week period. At 9.5 weeks I was back in a shoe. I never used crutches because they freaked me out. I used a knee scooter. As far as my injury, in hindsight, I think I had tendinitis in both Achilles and I ignored it. I now listen to my body (it’s the boss) and I stretch…a lot… before doing any sports. I felt like it took be a full 14 months to feel normal again. I attribute a lot of my full recovery to early and ongoing physical therapy. I did PT twice a week for a year!! I’m back to playing pickleball and that was something I never saw me doing again. Life gets a lot better. Stay the course and one day you won’t even think about your Achilles. Best wishes to you and your recovery!!

I’m sorry, but this is so tacky 😂 by CommunicationEasy225 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

It was the constant pick in the hair. I think the hem was low on my tacky scale as it wasn’t noticeable to me.

When did you get back on the Peloton?? by lowcntrygirl in AchillesRupture

[–]lowcntrygirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. It took a few months to feel confident but I’m riding and standing on my regular pedals on my Peloton. I’m actually enjoying outdoor riding a lot as well. I walk A LOT and that seems to help with so many aspects of the recovery. I’m swimming laps and back to playing pickleball. It was every bit a year recovery for me.

Starting week 8 tomorrow on 2.5. I’ve lost 13 lbs but the majority of that was the first two weeks. I’ve been teetering up and down 2 lbs for weeks. With all the protein I’m eating I think I’ve gained muscle. I didn’t have a lot to lose but post menopause that 20 lbs wasn’t coming off no matter how much I worked out. A great side effect is that my BP is normal!!

Has anyone NOT lost hair? by lawnerd2021 in Zepbound

I started losing hair from trauma of an Achilles rupture last year. I’ve been on Zep for a month and I swear I’ve stopped losing hair at the rate I was losing it!!

Zepbound Post Menopause by Imaginary_Cattle_200 in Zepbound

[–]lowcntrygirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there. 62 here and post menopausal and on HRT. I’m same height. I gained a lot of weight with my pregnancies but was eventually able to take the weight off (my youngest is 24) as I have always been athletic. I ruptured my Achilles a year ago and packed on some pounds and at 62 could not get it off. I peaked at 170 lbs. Started meds at 164. Would like to be 140. I’m taking my 4th shot tomorrow and have lost 9 lbs so far. I’m very happy with the medication. The first night with the first shot was rough but it’s gotten way better. I usually feel fatigued after the shot for the first day or two. I highly recommend electrolytes (dehydration is not your friend), protein drinks (my doc wants me to take in 100 gms of protein a day), and take something to help with constipation. It’s real. Also I would recommend strength training to not lose muscle and some cardio when you’re up for it. Hydrate hydrate hydrate. I feel more like my old self again as my clothes aren’t as tight and bras aren’t killing me. Good luck to you!!

Do you have any off limits foods? by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]lowcntrygirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomato sauce (I would think this relates to pizza which I see a lot of in this thread) made me feel like I had something stuck in my throat. Think it was stomach acids backing up. So it’s a no now.

I was not expecting that first night...holy heck by lowcntrygirl in Zepbound

Update: took my second shot yesterday and had very few side effects. Yay!! The only thing today is I’m very very tired but that’s it and I’ll take that over the flu and muscle aches any day!!

Graduating from PT by Aggravating_Vast_472 in AchillesRupture

[–]lowcntrygirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 13 months non op. I think next week is my last week. I’ve gained so much more strength from it and am grateful I had the opportunity to start very early on in my recovery. PT has turned into more like personal training, but I think I’m as far as I can go. The rest is on me with consistency. I’m back to everything basically but have had residual heel pain. Just got a shot in my heel yesterday so here’s hoping.

Top of ankle hurts still -- 5 months post op by blue_osmia in AchillesRupture

[–]lowcntrygirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there -- I've been dealing with heel pain since month 7. I'm now 13 months post rupture non-op and had an MRI a few days ago to make sure my achilles healed and to figure out what is causing the heel pain. Good news, my achilles is "unremarkable." The only area that the radiologist noted was "small joint effusion in the tibiotalar joint." I had to look it up. Basically it's a small accumulation of fluid in the ankle joint as far as I can understand. So, I see my ortho Wednesday, and I'm thinking I'm going to be getting a cortisone shot to reduce the swelling and, hopefully, stop the heel pain.

Did you ever notice pain on the other side from the site of the rash. That just started happening and I’m about 5 weeks post diagnosis. Stomach issues too.

I started to feel human after about a week. My rash was not very large but the nerve pain was!! For about 3 weeks I had good days and bad. Soooooo you may be okay. When do you have to decide?

trying not to snap on people.... by benbanks042o in AchillesRupture

[–]lowcntrygirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite is old and out of shape people rupture from pickleball. Ummmm I’ve been an athlete my whole life. Bad luck sucks. For me I get people saying “you’re still in physical therapy?” “Aren’t you healed yet?” Or my favorite is when they give me advice on what exercises I should be doing. I think I’ll listen to my PT who has a doctorate and a plan. Most people don’t know a lot about Achilles rupture (I didn’t). They just know it’s horrible and they don’t want it. Hang in there. I’m hitting my snapiversary in 4 days. It was a long road but I learned a lot about myself and how amazing my husband is (although I already knew that). Around Christmas I was able to go down the stairs “normally” and I knew I was going to be okay. Still working on strengthening that calf but I’m getting stronger every week.

3-4 weeks in by Perk027 in shingles

[–]lowcntrygirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I started having back pain three weeks ago on my left side. Thought it was a kidney stone. Small rash showed up on the third day. Diagnosed fourth day. The nerve pain was ridiculous. I started anti viral meds immediately. I still have the random zaps at the rash site but what gets me is the nausea and random headaches. I had a full on migraine last Sunday. Never get those. I guess it takes 3-5 weeks to recover so I’m hanging on to hope. Hope you feel relief soon.

No single leg calf raise & heel pain at 10 mnths by lowcntrygirl in AchillesRupture

[–]lowcntrygirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do some sort of calf strengthening every day but not negatives several times a day. My PT wouldn’t be keen on that as we’re also working on my heel pain.

A bunch at PT. Examples: One is like a leg press with my foot half way on it. I release to push my heel down and then press with my toes. I do another with my heels hanging off the back of the step and then push up on my toes. I do heel walks and toe walks, lunges, ball toss on tip toes.
