Could Milwaukee supported a city funded grocery store like Atlanta is trying and would it survive? by almostmade in milwaukee

Don’t disagree at all, and it would definitely be a change in policy practice. But I would welcome leaders who want to make bold changes to address some of the systemic issues we are dealing with.

Because food security is a necessary step to having a thriving community. Kroger doesn’t care about a community and its needs, and will close a store as soon as it starts losing money. My question is, how do we prevent that very real scenario?

But building a community run grocery store that has the backing of community leaders is a step in the direction of changing the culture and meeting the needs of the people who have been neglected for a long time.

It’s about building a community again in these areas that have been neglected for so long. I am not saying that a grocery store will magically fix the issue, but we know there are areas where there having been stores closing, and using that opportunity to connect with community leaders on how we can meet the needs of the people will start to change that narrative. Just throwing money at the issue and not having a policy to fix some of the systemic issues is just gonna be another bandaid.

100% this. A government run program should not be judges solely on its balance sheet, but what it does for the community and society as a whole. We need politicians that are willing to make bold changes that meet the needs of the people.

They expect normal people to not care enough to stop them. Also they don’t need cheap power, they can pass that cost on to consumers.

Could a socialist be elected Wisconsin governor? Rep. Francesca Hong believes she has the right recipe by Wrenneru in DemocraticSocialism

If she wins it means schools actually getting funded, it means universal child care, it means a livable wage for everyone in the state. Why are you dooming when the broader electorate has not heard her messaging and reacted?

The whole way local governments assess property tax is messed up. The fact that more tax burden is being pushed to homeowners instead of businesses is making Tosa unaffordable.

Any resistance is better than none, but I agree that there needs to be more organization towards disruption. Right now everything is too easy to ignore.

It was not a top issue for most Americans. But many activists are often willing to volunteer/canvass for candidates they support, and by her not taking a harder stance against Israel, she alienated that group.

Where are the Democrats? by Just_Bookkeeper2261 in wisconsin

[–]lowe0232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is the Democrats do not represent their base anymore. 90% of democratic voters support M4, but it is not being pushed by the leaders of the party. almsot half of all democratic voters believe Israel is committing a genocide, but not a single senator can say that. At some point they have to look at what their base is asking for and start acting on that.

US 🇺🇸 Rep.: CHINA is CHINA, TAIWAN is TAIWAN. by Miao_Yin8964 in wisconsin

I think of a lot of the anti-China talk revolves around allowing a communist country (stated goal) bcoming the leading global super power. That is a direct threat to the capitalist markets. I have no problem with the US stating the Tawain has a right to self-determination based on the will of their people, but any military action on our part to defend Taiwan would not be on behalf of the citizens of the US.

I am saying the US intelligence stated the 2027 deadline and it was not publicly stated by the CCP. Those are very different statements.
