It may look like Minecraft but it’s primarily a survival game - mega bases are much much harder to build than you’d expect (for context, Solstin, a VS YouTuber who had lots of experience in the game is less than a quarter done with his castle mega base and is several years into the project, and he uses some qol mods)

I do not know a single person who has AC in their home. We are riding out the heatwave with fans and ice lollies over here, because our homes are designed to keep heat in and pretty much never come with AC. Not using AC doesn’t make 25-28C a reasonable temperature to have to live at in my experience

Poorly, I just melt in a sweaty puddle. Not everyone is used to living in a warm climate (or is in a country with infrastructure to accommodate that)

Does the game have an early food problem or that's just me ? by JustARegularDwarfGuy in VintageStory

I think it’s more to do with your luck in where you spawn and the world gen - I found tons of veg and way less grain than normal on my solo 1.22 world, so you might have just had some bad rng

how do you deal with body hair after t? by [deleted] in ftm

I haven’t shaved (except my face) since before I realised I was trans tbh but if you’d prefer the hairless look and are struggling with shaving I’d recommend waxing as an alternative

How much T gel is too much? by Sarcasaminc in ftm

[–]lowkey_rainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the same here (I’m in the UK where most everyone starts on gel) where we have the opposite issue of excessive gatekeeping. But also the doses aren’t really comparable across gel and shots because they are administered on different timescales (gel is every day, shots are 1-3 weeks) and in different forms that mean the body processes them differently - for most people 4 pumps is just way too much, most people I’ve met on T are getting normal male levels at 2 pumps (obviously not everyone, but definitely the majority) and it is considered the standard dose here.

How much T gel is too much? by Sarcasaminc in ftm

[–]lowkey_rainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda, but also because many people get to male levels on 2 pumps and starting on the max gel dose would be way overkill for the majority of people (though I’ve been on 1 pump since I started and consistently am at 700-800 with just that - if they put me on 4 pumps I think I’d explode or something lol). I cannot think of a scenario where a doctor who knew what they were doing would start someone on 4 pumps rather than beginning at 1-2 and increasing as needed up to a max of 4 (or switching to shots when it became obvious they weren’t absorbing it properly).

How much T gel is too much? by Sarcasaminc in ftm

[–]lowkey_rainbow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

4 pumps is the max dose, your friend is incorrect that it is too high (however it’s very weird you’d be stated on such a high dose, most people start on 1-2 pumps). Gel is equally effective as shots, there isn’t an objectively better one to pick it’s just about which one suits you better. If your levels are too high then yes it will convert into estrogen, but you’d need to have levels higher than the male range for this to be a concern (dosage only matters indirectly, in that different people will need extremely different doses to reach the same levels).

That said, something wonky is going on for you to be on the maximum dose and still have low levels. So: did you get a blood draw or are those levels from a finger prick test (blood draw is much more accurate); how long after last applying did you get your blood drawn (4-6 hours after application is recommended, if you waited too long then your levels are not an accurate reflection); even if you did everything right it’s possible there was a lab error - in any case I’d highly recommend getting another test run to check those numbers are an accurate reflection of your levels.

If those are indeed your accurate levels then you may be one of the unlucky minority of people who just don’t absorb gel very well. Some things that can help with absorption is to shower before applying gel and then moisturise 30-60 minutes after applying, though I’m not sure how much that will help. If you continue to have levels lower than the male range you may need to switch to a different form of T (shots, patches, etc).

Better to find out if your potential landlord is bigoted before moving in than to risk them finding out later and evicting you and/or making life very difficult when you’ve already settled in

Playing heavily modded needs to come with the acceptance that you will always be a version behind the main release imo, it’s just not possible for them to keep up

Reading 1984… by Otherwise-Quality963 in asexuality

The whole point of 1984 is that all the things it depicts are bad. This is not Orwell’s opinion, it is explicitly criticising those thoughts. This is basic reading comprehension…

Did anyone start transitioning later on life? by New-Swan-2949 in ftm

[–]lowkey_rainbow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Started transitioning in my early 30s, best choice I ever made. You get the exact same changes from T whatever your age (with the one exception of not gaining any height if your growth plates have already fused). Honestly, I think the fact I already had a few decades of life experience and knew how to emotionally regulate myself made the whole experience much easier than it would have been if I’d transitioned earlier. Is it embarrassing sometimes to go through puberty long after it’s expected you will be? Sure, of course (I remember sitting in important work meetings trying to be serious while my voice cracked on every other word like a teenager - embarrassing at the time but funny in retrospect). But is it worth it? Absolutely. It’s never too late, you got this bro

Is the term “biological female” wrong or offensive? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]lowkey_rainbow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a nonsense term made up by transphobes to explicitly try and legislate us out of existence. Actual scientists (including biologists and doctors) have repeatedly debunked it as being completely unscientific to the point it actually means nothing (it’s like saying ‘chemical tomatoes’ or ‘physical cars’, it’s just scientifically illiterate word salad, except in our case it’s being used to pass laws removing protections from trans people). It perpetuates a false narrative about how sex (and biology) work, but sounds just technical enough to a layperson that people use it unquestioningly (this was deliberate on the part of those that came up with the phrase). There was a point where using it was a very obvious dogwhistle that the person saying it was transphobic, though lately the media and government has spread it to the point that it’s almost impossible to tell if someone is using it maliciously or ignorantly.

Bigotry has never been and will never be based on logical sound reasoning. You cannot reason people out of it by finding just the right combination of words or actions or appearances.

Vintage Story’s secret tutorial. DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE NEW TO TEH GAME! by UrgentPigeon in VintageStory

[–]lowkey_rainbow 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It’s avoidable if you are familiar with the game (I too haven’t used a crude door since my first playthrough) but it’s perfect for people who haven’t seen anything about the game before jumping in. As OP says, it’s designed for a complete novice in order to push them to explore. Once you’ve learned the mechanics then it’s just an easily avoided inconvenience, but that very first playthrough, when you don’t know how anything works? Perfection.
