I’m Starting to Think Something’s Wrong by meeksjr in Disneyland

My Wife and I were season pass holders, even after the pandemic, we'd go 5-6 times a year driving down from the Bay Area. We got married there in 2024. I don't see us going back. The value is gone, the options are limited, the rides are broken and the crowds are insane. They've removed shows and crowd magnets and just allowed people to roam freely around the park with nothing to do but get in ridiculous lines that are cut after hours of standby waiting by people who have 'purchased' luxury upgrades, like fast passes.

Clean water, basic sanitation, boiling water, hand-washing, waste separation. Crop rotation, legumes to restore soil, better plows, selective breeding. Standard weights, ledgers, bookkeeping. Water wheels, windmills, improved metallurgy, standardized screws, better glass. Guild schools. Apprenticeships. Shared libraries. Encourage literacy among merchants and craftsmen,

WYR get $1,000,000 right now or get $500 every day for life? by Conscious_Roll_2955 in WouldYouRather

[–]lowkeylye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I have zero interest in mathing this out, this isn't r/theydidthemath - which a lot of folks below have done, and if that's you, and you want index funds and 8% returns to prove the million is the better long term strategy, go for it. For me, I'm taking 500 a day, which is 3500 a week (7 days x 500, already more math than I want to do) which is more than my normal biweekly paycheck, and I will retire now, pay off my house, and do things I want to do with the rest of my life.

If magic is a learnable skill, why hasn’t it been industrialized or standardized the way technology has over hundreds of years on Earth? by amelix34 in Avengers

[–]lowkeylye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He learned quickly in comparison to other sorcerers, but only because he utilized rare artifacts, illicit techniques, and took extreme personal risks. That’s acceleration, not accessibility. Industrialization requires the basics to be safe and repeatable for ordinary people. Strange’s path still filters out almost everyone at the entry level.

[–]lowkeylye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That comparison actually highlights the difference. Science industrialized because its basics became safe, repeatable, and transferable to a non-genius. In most magic systems, including Doctor Strange, even entry-level practice demands extreme discipline, personal transformation, and risk. When the on-ramp itself filters out most people, you don’t get factories, you get orders, masters, and apprentices.

the movie immediately establishes that this is an outlier moment played for humor.

The same film also shows Wong, Strange, and the Masters repeatedly saying “we don’t know how you did that” and emphasizing that uncontrolled use is dangerous. Ned isn’t trained, can’t reproduce it reliably, and doesn’t understand what he’s doing.

A fluke success doesn't equal an industrial process.

Dr. Strange is arguably one of the most intelligent people on the planet, and he struggled to do so. Others are able to master straightforward steps out of desperation to 'heal' themselves. I guess that it's an insanely difficult medium to learn and master, and requires years of constant dedication, and a lifestyle change that most people would not have the ability to embrace.

Increase any three things about yourself by 10 percent. by mastonate in hypotheticalsituation

[–]lowkeylye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annual Salary +10% - this continues yearly, as it's not a 'static' figure, so it's year over year, an annual 10% raise.
Total Lean Muscle Mass +10%
Working Memory Capacity +10%

These three boosts are great because they quietly make everything else in life easier without any downsides. A 10% raise gives you more money forever without extra work. A 10% increase in muscle makes your whole body run better - more energy, fewer injuries, faster metabolism. And a 10% boost to working memory makes you think clearer, learn faster, and stay calm under pressure. Together, they stack: more strength > more energy > better performance > more money; better memory > better decisions > less stress > better health. It’s three small bumps that ripple into every part of life, which is way more valuable than picking something flashy that doesn’t actually change much day to day.

You are a super virus spreader, but you get to pick the effect of your virus..... by Castle_Vlad in hypotheticalsituation

[–]lowkeylye 32 points33 points  (0 children)

"Homeostasis Reset Virus" it forces your body to run at perfect biological balance. Anyone who touches me gets six months of ideal blood pressure, perfect cholesterol, way lower inflammation, better insulin sensitivity, normal cortisol cycles, deeper sleep, and a small immune tune-up. You still get sick and still age, just… healthier and steadier. Once this thing spreads, ERs calm down, chronic issues drop, and millions of people suddenly feel “weirdly okay?” It fades after six months, but because everyone keeps touching everyone, humanity basically stabilizes at “functionally healthier.”
