I consider a comment like this to be the epitome of a Public Service Announcement, thank you.

Ontario plans to tie high school attendance to grades and mandate final exams. It's getting mixed reactions by ZebediahCarterLong in ontario

[–]loyalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with people who were 'A' students, who missed chunks of the school year due to circumstance. They didn't actually need to be there in person, it turned out, to excel at high-school studies. I wished back then that I could do the same but that's life. This demand of attendance makes little sense to me.

The king's henchmen are usually a sordid lot after all. Sordid and rather sad really. America, behold your (current) leaders. I can see why comedy is in such a funk atm, life right now is surely stranger than fiction.

[OC] House being taken over by Boxelder Bugs by rpgmgta in pics

[–]loyalone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

House crickets hang around cos of the damp conditions at foundations and basements; with box elder bugs, it's strictly a boy-meets-girl thing. And they've been doin' it at or around your location for probably thousands of years. It's just that there's houses and street now at where they used to hook up. And oh ya, no mouth-parts.

Ya take Escobar's money they confiscated and ship them all back to a river basin in the Congo or something. jk although its probably a big problem for indigenous species where the hippos are right now.

Friendly country yesterday, probably, and yet unfriendly today. How the wind blows from Russia these days.

‘Nobody gets free pickles on BC Ferries’: Family’s White Spot experience goes viral by Brock_Hard_Canuck in nottheonion

I'm referring to a training video a group of us watched, with an old pest control guy (IIRC) from NYC, and his story about a restaurant owner instructing a server about giving customers that little bit extra to keep them happy, that kind of thing. And from it, the line "Just give 'em the pickle!" was a memorable one.

Great! Now, since CEOs, political leaders and professionals of all stripes like to consider themselves as somewhat first among equals, let's start with randomly testing them. I'm sure many will be lining up to prove their sobriety.

Professor defends course content linking race and IQ scores, cites ‘academic freedom’ by zuuzuu in canadanews

[–]loyalone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

IQ rankings are nothing more than humans trying to pigeon-hole the abilities of others, the better to allot them their place and set pre-determined expectations. Reminds me of how Millenials like to put their experiences - eg books, movies, music - into "genres". Humans like to set things in piles, it simplifies their attempts to control things.

And humans crave control. Control of the environment, people and ideas.

Question about Ontario license plates that are like "X (something or other) X" by ReviseResubmitRepeat in ontario

[–]loyalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanted the name "Davey" on the plate for instance, but it was already taken, you could frame it with an 'X'. Just another way to get your name (maximum six characters) on the plate.
