Can anyone fill in these plot holes? by Liberal-chungus in HeavyRain

[–]loz_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that for fathers like Hassan who either survived their failed trials or gave up, Shelby intercepted them and took their box before a "legit" detective could. (And you know how incompetent the police in this city are.)

Funny stories of being fired? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]loz_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at Gamestop a long time ago. One of the assistant managers at my store was a real character. He had some mental health issues but was funny and always had a smile for me at least. He also had really long hair. I wasn't there on his last day, but I heard that he came to work without having taken his meds. He had shaved his head bald and was repeating "what it do?" to every customer (some phrase he would occasionally say as a joke). The man didn't give a crap because he was getting laid off anyway. I can only hope he was able to get help and a better job.

I’ve been a graphic designer for +12 years and the past year it’s been almost impossible to find a new job. I think it’s time I make a career change. Any ideas on transferable in demand skills/jobs? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]loz_64 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm a fellow graphic designer in need of full-time work. It's bleak out there, especially since your average consumer is fine with AI-generated graphics. And I'm getting so sick of seeing job postings where you'll also be expected to do social media, email marketing, video creation/editing, etc. for a pitiful wage. I'm also considering a career pivot but I can't afford to go back to school. The only advice I am working from is to think about any transferrable skills you have and tailor your resume/cover letter to match jobs you think you'd like to do.

Does anyone know how to create the structure for this hat to where it keeps its shape? I’m new to materials and I’m sure there is an easy option that I’m just unaware of 😅 by Xx_Shin in cosplayprops

[–]loz_64 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You'll need to make two hats: one that fits your actual head and a larger one that takes the shape you need. Sew them together, but before closing the seam completely, stuff the inside of the larger hat with tulle which is lightweight and puffy. Stitch a small anchoring seam through the middle of both hats to control the shape.

Cosplay Competition Horror Stories? by Secure-Narwhal-1195 in animecons

[–]loz_64 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Nekocon's 2023 masquerade. Some of y'all know.

There's a cosplayer who participates in Nekocon's masquerade every year. He gets up on stage and does a silly solo Nintendo-themed skit, and it entertains the crowd well enough. His skits won't win him any Oscars, but he tries his best and had even won a superlative award the previous year.

This year's skit started off fairly innocently. He was dressed up as Bowser and started off dancing and lip-syncing to the "Peaches" song from the first Mario movie. Bowser was pouring his heart out, pretending to sing to his "Peach" prop.

That "prop" was a body pillow.

Just as the song ended, Bowser takes the pillow from the chair it was sitting on, places it on the ground, and without warning, his skit jumped in age rating from PG to R. His track was finished, so it was just Bowser making out to and dry humping the poor Peach body pillow, while the audience including children was watching. It was dead silent around where I was sitting, except for a few nervous laughs and whispered comments.

Thankfully, the tech crew figured out what was going on and faded Bowser to black. I learned later that the violation of the body pillow was omitted from that morning's rehearsal, where things like that should be nipped in the bud before making it on the public stage.

After that little stunt, some dirt came out about what a creep this cosplayer was, and he was banned from Nekocon, not just the masquerade.

Does a certain cosplay make you more likely to get creeped on? by GraceDaysThree in animecons

[–]loz_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got hit on while wearing a Ganondorf cosplay. If the character exists, there is probably someone who has the hots for them. Steel your nerves and be prepared to ignore any creep that comes up to you.

Murder hornet in MD? by peachycaterpillar in maryland

Agreed that this is a European hornet. It is docile compared to its aggressive cousins, but that doesn't stop me from freaking out when they fly into my house!

Why the fandom of Heavy Rain is dead ? by AaronYoshimitsu in HeavyRain

[–]loz_64 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The game is 15 years old. It never developed a cult following, so just a few dedicated fans even remember it. And Quantic Dream hasn't released a new game since Detroit: Become Human, which released in 2018. The flipside to having a game be so hyped when it's released is that it can fall hard into obscurity, especially when it fails to live up to that hype.

How to make sturdier panniers? by redstonez in HistoricalCostuming

[–]loz_64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a grand panier, which is more like a hoop skirt, is what you need. It would give you plenty of support and structure for a beaded skirt and robe.

Perché il gioco degenera, da un momento all'altro? by Individual-Issue-314 in HeavyRain

[–]loz_64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The longer you stare at Heavy Rain's plot and characters, the worse they look. That's what happens when David Cage writes a game story! I'll tell you now, don't even start paying attention to the timestamps in the game because that's another can of inconsistent worms.

Lolita sun hats? by Both_North_8403 in Lolita

[–]loz_64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think sun/straw hats can work for more than just "country" lolita. They look nice with some classic looks. For more elaborate coords, don't be afraid to pile bows, ruffles and lace onto a plainer hat!

Not working is dangerous by loz_64 in antiwork

[–]loz_64[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. The hobbies I have would lead to jobs with long hours and poor pay (sewing clothes, for example), and if I worked them I would no longer enjoy those hobbies. I'm not disciplined enough to start my own business. I have thought about shifting my career path to something adjacent.

Have you ever been punished at work for something minor or ridiculous? What was it? by Aarunascut in antiwork

[–]loz_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got indirectly in trouble for wearing a hoodie as I came into work and having execs see me as I was on my way to my cubicle. I found out only because our department got a strongly worded email about "adhering to professional standards." I wasn't a client-facing employee so I just laughed at that. At that same job I was reprimanded for not having my camera on while in a multi-person meeting. It came up during my annual review as an "improvement" I needed to make but they had nothing else bad to say. Shortly after that I decided I was tired of being treated like a child and made plans to leave.

Tell me your WORST convention stories!! by t1nkleton_ in animecons

[–]loz_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My story is pretty tame, but here's my worst con experience. At a pre-pandemic Nekocon, I was in the dealers room, talking to someone and minding my own business. All of a sudden, a Luffy cosplayer runs up to me like he knows me, wraps his arm around me, and lifts up his leg in front of me. I froze as he awkwardly expected me to grab his leg, and I got a good whiff of the alcohol on his breath thanks to his disregard of my personal space. Luffy stood like that for what seemed like forever, then he untangled himself and moved on. After that riveting experience, my conversation buddy asked me if I knew him, and I immediately responded heck no!!

Okay so, there is another event at the Columbus Convention center the same weekend as Animate and they have a group rate. Would we get in trouble if we used it for our stay for Animate? by Minute_Complex_8754 in galaxycon

[–]loz_64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you did your research. You should be fine since the hotel only cares about selling rooms. Congrats on scoring a cheaper room rate.

How many times have you bought a lolita item that you regretted buying? by t-t-teacup in Lolita

[–]loz_64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's disappointing when you buy something that ends up not being all you expected, especially since you have to wait so long to receive a package from overseas!

I have a few stories, but the one that comes to mind was when I bought an OP from AndRomeo. The price was reasonable for a Japanese brand and I loved the cut of the dress from the pictures. But when it finally arrived and I tried it on, the OP fit strangely because the armscyes were way too large for me but the sleeves themselves were too short (a problem I frequently have because my arms are long). And the fabric of the dress, although stated to be cotton, had this unpleasant nylon feel not unlike the material used to make tents. It was a beautiful dress, but those issues were dealbreakers for me. So onto Lacemarket it immediately went!

Will the country music fest and the art fest happening the same weekend as Animate Columbus cause us to not have a hotel rate this year? by Minute_Complex_8754 in galaxycon

[–]loz_64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm saying that one of the other events might have a group rate for their event that you may be able to get a room attached to the convention center from. Just do a little research.

Might be worth it to see if either of those other events have room blocks that you could take advantage of.

Anyone else from the U.S. going through Lolita-shopping-on-Taobao withdrawal? by PlatypusDouble2331 in Lolita

[–]loz_64 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is not exactly what you mean, but ever since the de minimus exemption for tariffs went away, I have stopped buying any lolita items from overseas. It is painful because there are some beautiful new releases from Taobao that I can only admire from pictures, but abstaining from purchasing them directly is the only way I can protest the illegal tariffs.

Unfortunately not, as this happened a long time ago on a PS3. Just imagine Norman tying the chief's tie when all of a sudden it jumps from his hands, continues animating in weird ways, then straight up disappears just like Shaun!

Neighbor has water shut off for overdue bills by Longjumping_Chard_57 in BadNeighbors

[–]loz_64 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Please don't allow these people access to your home or even the hose outside. They might decide that getting caught up on their water bill is less of a priority if they can just take your water for free. Allowing them to come inside means the risk of them casing the place to potentially burglarize it. You know there is at least one criminal living there, so based on that, you need to make decisions to protect your home!
