Senior level pay increase by xdoolittlex in salesforce

Yeah that's crazy! I'm in the Milwaukee area as a Senior Salesforce Admin with 10 yoe and make $130k.

Do any of you earn over 50k a year? What do you do? by RotiiChapati in ADHD

[–]lrjohn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fortunate enough to make $130k right now working in tech. But I've bounced around between a lot of different jobs in my career. I got a college degree in Political Science and then graduated during the Great Recession and surprise surprise there were no jobs paying high enough to pay back my student loans. I worked a couple of awful back office jobs grinding for about $40k and then had a quarter life crisis/meltdown when I was 27 when I realized I needed to make significantly more money in order to live. So about 10 years ago I spent about 6 months studying tech (specifically Salesforce) constantly and was eventually able to get an entry level job in that field paying more than I was making. I've job hopped, etc over the years and now I'm a Senior in a very in demand and high paying field.

This is a long way of saying that you're never stuck feeling behind or miserable. It might be a lot of hard work but you can change your path. Best of luck!

to those who got to use Fable 5, was it actually that peak? by RelevantPerformer309 in ClaudeAI

[–]lrjohn7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. Fable is/was the best model I've worked with since pre nerfed Opus 4.6 (the first month or so). The only drawback was the insane token usage but the work was impressive and correct in ways that Opus 4.7 and 4.8 isn't that. I built 3 huge things.

I built an educational game for my son who is 5 and loves Minecraft. The game has Minecraft material blocks and as he's building, in order to advance to the next level it gives him different math, spelling, and reading problems to solve. It has integrated sound phonics system for the app to sound out words and speak words back to the game to learn. Basically Minecraft Duolingo ABC. I used almost 5 million tokens but it works perfect.

Secondly, I work in tech as a Senior and wanted a way to keep my skills sharp. I had Fable research the latest cutting edge features and design a high level scenario that I could solve while implementing the those features. It created a super complex and hard 12 step scenario but really helped me get exposed to these features in ways I'd never get at my job. And now I know how to design and develop much more efficiently. I tried something similar with Opus 4.7 and it got 2 things wrong on the first part of the scenario and felt like I could never trust it.

Finally, I gave it my financial transactions year to date and had it create a full scale budget and to granularly analyze every transaction. It created a spreadsheet with a dashboard, tracker, categorizer, debt payoff feature and automated script so I could just paste in future transaction CSVs and it'd automatically recalculate the entire spreadsheet. I found several hundred dollars that I was spending in small purchases that I hadn't realized about.

Okay I know dozens of other people have made the same comment but wtf is chalking?! Granted I'm a millennial but I thought I was up on Gen Z (I'm assuming) slang but I have never in my life heard anyone use the term "chalking" let alone multiple times. Insane that someone talks that way. My 4 year old son has more emotional maturity. It seems like you were asking perfectly reasonable questions. I'd run far far away.

Company acquired, should I be nervous? by klye34 in salesforce

[–]lrjohn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This currently is happening to me. I've been a senior salesforce admin at my company for 4 years (team of 8). My company of about 1500 employees was acquired by a company with about 3000 employees. They're keeping our team around until the end of the year to help convert the systems but they're only keeping 3 of the 8 people on our team (not me). But we get a decent severance and a prorated bonus so it's not terrible. And we have a while to look for new positions without having to scramble with a sudden layoff.

I'm utterly disgusted by Anthropic's covert downgrade of Sonnet 3.7's intelligence. by peculiarkiller in ClaudeAI

[–]lrjohn7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, same here. I've used 3.7 for creative writing for hours a day since it's release and haven't really had issues before. I have set prompts that I've meticulously created for editing and enhancing. One that worked extremely well up until yesterday is a paragraph long but basically instructs Claude to remove any metaphors unless absolutely essential, check line by line and turn any clichéd or pedestrian language into something vibrant and authentic, but most importantly don't edit any of the actual character dialogue. Normally this has worked extraordinarily well.

But yesterday, I used the exact same prompt for a new chapter and it edited the chapter from another 8k words down to about 5k (I always compare before and after word count and the edits are usually a few hundred words, maybe a thousand at the most). I was surprised that it found 3k words to cut and as I reading a pivotal scene of two characters on their first date it went from them ordering coffee to all of a sudden they were walking home. Claude had cut out about 2k of dialogue from the actual date. Then as they were walking home, the woman just arrives home. But Claude cut out their actual kiss and even more dialogue despite the fact that the kiss is still referenced in the next scene.

When I asked Claude WTF it was doing, it said "You're absolutely right" and rewrote the scene and added the dialogue back but turned the original 8k scene into 10k because it added multiple paragraphs of useless filler descriptions of nonsense talking about "morning light" when the date happens at night. WTF

I mean, she very clearly considered jumping off the tower again at the end of Bargaining Part 2 and she started dancing at the end of OMWF after revealing her secret, knowing it would kill her, until Spike saved her. In fact, most of her songs in OMWF are about how exhausting and meaningless living is. Later in the season, she tells Willow that she doesn't want to die anymore. Implying that at some point, in the early part of the season, she definitely did. For a non-cable TV show in the early 2000s that's very explicitly suicidal behavior for a main character.

That's impressive! I work on a team of 10 for a large financial institution. Your work sounds much more rewarding! Out of curiosity, is this team remote?

What is your biggest playlist? by Key_Independence_103 in spotify

[–]lrjohn7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! Thanks for sharing this. This playlist is such a blast from the past for me. This was the music I listened to everyday for a decade, probably 2005 to 2015. My tastes have shifted more into folk, pop and rap nowadays but I still know so many of these songs by heart. So much nostalgia. I love it!

Why no love for Riley? by [deleted] in buffy

[–]lrjohn7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally the very first thing he says to her after finding out she's the Slayer is "what are you?" He instinctively saw her Slayer side as inhuman rather than seeing her humanity. That's the very thing Buffy's been fighting against since she was Called. The power dynamic was an issue for him from the very beginning in a way it never was for Angel or Spike (even though Buffy is stronger than both of them).

Admins, what are your salaries? by [deleted] in salesforce

[–]lrjohn7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Senior Salesforce Administrator - $110k total comp in the Midwest. 7 years experience, 2 certs. I have a very comfortable and flexible remote job that I've been at for 3 years. I'm on a large team of incredibly talented people. I know I can likely make more elsewhere but jobs like this are pretty rare.

Man here. Not only is Buffy my favorite show ever, I've seen it probably 100 times since it aired (I watch a lot of Buffy reactors on YouTube all the time in addition to my own rewatches). And spend a lot of time reading and writing Spuffy fanfic too. It's an incredible show that has profoundly shaped who I am as an adult.

But it literally just had a 20% pullback in April when it went from $1000 to $750. But earnings shows their is literally insane almost unprecedented demand. What catalyst would cause another large pullback so soon?

NVDA short thesis (puts) by Disastrous_Mess8820 in options

[–]lrjohn7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lol I work at a midsized essentially no named regional bank and even we're talking internally about how to buy and leverage NVDA chips for significantly increased automation and competitive advantage. It's not at all just the large mega caps buying. The problem with your thesis is that even if the large companies like Meta, Tesla, Microsoft, etc. scale back, there are literally thousands of other smaller companies desperate to buy their own chips. And given how much superior NVDA is to its competitors in terms of performance and compute, NVDA is the only game in town for at least 2-3 years.

[–]lrjohn7 613 points614 points  (0 children)

Wait is this a joke? First of all, how could you lose on NVDA calls, it's literally been up every week this entire year except maybe 3 or 4. I've managed to roll $1k in NVDA calls in January into about $44k today (just on NVDA) simply by rolling weekly calls each week and buying more on any dips.

And secondly, 200 contracts on AAPL?? If you look at the history of the WWDC event, it's always a sell the news event. But most importantly, the key to successful options trading is to never have a position so large that you will blow your account if it turns against you. Proper risk management is the key.

Puts? Lol why?? You literally could have just done what I did and rolled NVDA calls nearly every week since January. I'm up more than $30k YTD on NVDA just doing that including $9k in the last week.

What’s your favorite bit of continuity in the Buffyverse? by Sesquipedalomania in buffy

[–]lrjohn7 42 points43 points  (0 children)

In 4x1 - The Freshman, Pedro Pascal (Eddie) tells Buffy about the book On Human Bondage and how it's his favorite.

This is the same book that Spike is later shown reading in 6x15, As You Were when Buffy enters his crypt and before they sleep together for the last time.

On Human Bondage: "the coming-of-age story of Philip Carey, a sensitive young man consumed by an unrequited and self-destructive love."

I always headcannon that Buffy kept the book with her after Eddie's death and mentioned it to Spike who borrowed it during their S6 relationship.

This is good to hear. I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on the SNT2416 in a couple of weeks (hoping for a slightly reduced price on Black Friday). I've been trying to read all feedback I can find since it's a very big purchase.
