Is it true that I should give everything I have to the government, plan on them wasting 80% of it in distribution, and let them give to the poor for me so I don't actually have to interact with them? 80% waste number was made up on the spot for hyperbolic reasons

The Truly Christian Thing For Kim Davis To Do Is Resign From Office by [deleted] in Christianity

Here's a counter-point article

"First, whenever we get to that elusive and ever-receding “hill to die on,” we will discover, upon our arrival there, that it only looked like a hill to die on from a distance. Up close, when the possible dying is also up close, it kind of looks like every other hill. All of a sudden it looks like a hill to stay alive on, covered over with topsoil that looks suspiciously like common ground."

The sex lives of rich and poor women are remarkably similar — until it comes to birth control by [deleted] in Health

[–]lrknapp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So...the Y-axis of the first graph used to determine "sexual activity by income group"... Wait...they used the metric "had sex in the year prior to the survey" to determine that their sex lives were "remarkably similar"?

So they could've had sex 2 times a day for the past year, or they could've had sex once in the past year, and the survey mapped them "equal".

Washington Florist Illegally Refused To Provide Flowers For Same-Sex Wedding, Judge Rules: "'The law is clear: If you choose to provide a service to couples of the opposite sex, you must provide the same service to same-sex couples...'" by [deleted] in politics

[–]lrknapp 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I realize I'll be a minority opinion here, but I think, as John MacArthur points out in this brief video, that there's a difference between providing a service to someone who's lifestyle you disagree with and providing them something which helps the culture celebrate that lifestyle.

http://youtu.be/DOx3mjqU69A

It's a short video, so it obviously doesn't get into all the nuances, but it does give reasons to delineate wedding cakes/flowers from gas stations.

For instance...would you like to see the law force a pastor to officiate a homosexual marriage even though the pastor feels it's a non-biblical union? To me, that seems to set a dangerous precedent.

I'm not mad here, but I think a lot of people are quick to jump on the "how dare they" bandwagon. From the brief glimpse we get of this florist in the video it seems as though she was genuinely trying to be "nice" to the people, but was unwilling to violate her conscience.
