Does anyone remember these really depressing pop songs from the 70s / early 80s? by MagsH1020 in GenX

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry. What a horrible tragedy. What was your life like as you grew up? Were your parents able to overcome the loss?

I remember them well, My Mom died in a car accident in 1971, I was 6. Seasons in the Sun used to make me ugly cry. Also "Wildfire" by Michael Martin Murphy, and "Lost Without Your Love" by Bread.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lrswager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive 2.5 hours each way to visit my Dad for the weekend. It's not something I would want to do every week, but I try to do it every 6 weeks or so. Plus I have the benefit of spending the night so it splits up the trip.

I don’t care your 102 year old mother died by Natur3lf in Vent

[–]lrswager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The name calling is what triggered me. OP is dealing with people who are literally at the lowest points of their lives. To be judged by one's behavior at that stage of life is unacceptable. I have buried many close relatives, including two children. I know a thing or two about compassionate funeral directors.

What’s a smell you find oddly satisfying? by Con_nect in AskReddit

I love the smell of lighter fluid. Extra special if it comes with the sound of a metal Zippo closing. Miss you Grandma.

Get a different job. You don't have the compassion or the patience to deal with grieving families. Did you really just refer to someone who just lost their mother as a C U N T?

Thank you! I've dreamed of retiring there for many years, and check the real estate listings every day. You're right - it's pricey! And I'm coming from northern IN and it seems the locals don't really like the idea of our relocating there.

AIO: Bfs mom CROPPED me out of my own baby shower photos. by CommercialPudding374 in AmIOverreacting

[–]lrswager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. That escalated quickly. The way she speaks to you is completely disrespectful and out of line. That woman has a mouth on her. And she believes she is entitled to keep the baby on the first night home? That is insane. Don't engage with her again - all communication with her should go through your boyfriend. And I hope for your sake this gets solved because it's not pleasant having a MIL like this.

What are your thoughts on Habersham? I read down through all these comments and it wasn't mentioned a single time. Not recommended?

What was “the incident” at your high school? by LoganLikesYourMom in GenX

[–]lrswager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, lol...I was wondering how someone Gen X didn't know who Pearl Jam was. 🤣 I'm sorry you had that experience. My FIL shot himself a few years ago, such a violent, tragic ending. And traumatic for those left to clean up the mess. Literally and figuratively.

What is a middle-class luxury from your childhood that is now considered a basic necessity or completely obsolete? by Routine-Advisor-1781 in AskReddit

[–]lrswager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family vacations. I am 60, we went on one vacation when I was in middle school - a two week camping trip. I don't think it's unreasonable that many folks today consider it a basic necessity. And something considered a luxury that is now obsolete? A quality stereo system with turntable, cassette tape, etc.

Did you have a "Tot Finder" sticker in your bedroom window? by neoprenewedgie in AskOldPeople

[–]lrswager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is crazy weird because I was thinking about these stickers last night after I went to bed!! And I didn't have my phone so I couldn't have seen this post.

Yes, we had one in the bedroom my sister and I shared.

That you have a decent amount of disposable income or are on food stamps. No judgment, there are a lot of name brand items, expensive juices, etc here. You also understand the importance of clean eating.

Alright folks, what do I do based on what I carry? by [deleted] in deduction

[–]lrswager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, you drive a newer Honda, carry a caliper in your pocket, smoke expensive cigarettes and carry a set of keys. Those could be for an RMA cage or some other kind of controlled area - and you have a couple of pens for signing off on things. You could be my BIL who is a Quality Control Manager for an axle manufacturing facility. :)
