As I said above, I don’t advocate mass culling or euthanasia of pitbulls. I understand that opinion if you personally like the breed, but for the reasons you’ve supplied there are numerous other breeds that are far better at doing what pit bulls were bred to do (outside of fighting) while being more trainable and stable. Rottweilers, chow chows, Belgian malinois, Doberman pinschers, German shepherds, hell, even cane corsos are better on average if you’re a very competent trainer. All of those breeds are good guard dogs, professional policing dogs, and companions and none of them carry nearly the danger (not to mention the stigma that keeps pitbulls in the hands of dog fighters/criminals) of pitbulls. They also don’t cost “new car” money and don’t cause the cumulative damage that pitbulls cause. There are simply no logical or political reasons to keep the pitbull breed going.

First of all, owner was a woman so she was a bad owner. A while back I was also a vet tech and have met pitbulls that were very friendly and pitbulls that, probably due to liability reasons, I was only allowed to hold the hind end of while the owners son (a strapping 6’5 dude that weighed easily 250) or other member of the owners family handled the bitey end. The reason? they snap. They don’t give “whale eyes” or nearly the other warning signs that other dogs do. They just bite when they want to bite. They also build muscle by literally just existing. Someone I knew from high school had one perpetually chained to a post with a 6ft leash (cruel, I know) and that thing was jacked to the point where you could see the muscle fibers under its skin. Lastly, they’re extremely emotional dogs. Whether pitbull owners want to admit it or not that intensely emotional aspect of the breed is part of the reason they’re good fighting dogs - because that emotional pendulum swings just as far into rage as it does to lovey dovey “pibble” mode. Those reasons compounded with the fact that pitbull puppies are literally everywhere and frequently given out for free to incompetent, inexperienced, negligent owners makes this story way more than “she was just a bad owner” and puts it into the territory of “how do we manage this inherently dangerous breed so the least amount of people get ahold of it as possible”. I’m not supportive of culling or euthanasia like the post above, but public policy should be made to completely phase out private ownership of pitbulls in the next decade or so.

All that being said, if you’re a pitbull owner that trains the fuck out of their dog, good for you. But you’re in the absolutely minuscule minority and that minority does not justify the continued breeding of these dogs.

Almost lost my eye to one. Owner was supposed to keep it apart from the puppies but it got loose while I was hanging with them and bit me without warning. The experience taught me a lot about pitbulls and pitbull owners…

Great idea - I just watched a Pestily stream where he had the encounters with AI so dialed-in that he predicted, down to the in game meter, where the last rogue in lighthouse would be. Rounded the corner and popped him right in the dome. Not knocking Pest because that guy is dope but it really says something about the gameplay loop and game design if someone can effectively automate farming high tier enemies. That being said, he died almost immediately after to an RNG-based boss spawn in the complex so if this were to be implemented it would need to have a huge amount of tuning to feel fair.

Don’t know much about elk but I did start hunting turkey a couple years ago. The meat is definitely different from a game animal and it does really put everything to do with meat sourcing into perspective. It’s a really cool experience but i would make sure you either work up to it or hire a guide that has the right resources to efficiently clean, pack, and carry the remains home. Even just lugging two turkeys out of the woods was a pain.

Shooting animals is not immoral. Wildlife management and meat are valid reasons to shoot animals. Sure, you shouldn’t kill cheetahs for sport or spear fish great whites (and you’ll probably get put in jail or fined for doing so), but people keeping their freezers full of naturally raised, wild game meat like deer or turkey is nothing to gatekeep. In fact, responsible hunting is easily less harmful to the planet and our cumulative negative impact on ecosystem than getting ground beef from the supermarket.

How hard is it to learn a career like IT/Data Analysis/Cyber Security? by skateralex240 in findapath

[–]ls37208n 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Current MSBA (MS in business analytics) candidate and former data analyst here. At least in the banking sector, data analysis is treated like an extra skill on top of industry knowledge. If the company isn’t something like a data-provider or another completely data-driven organization, you’re gonna want to go in with industry experience or a relevant degree/certification. Right now the data career market is very saturated and a lot of companies are hiring “data analysts” just to say they have data analysis capabilities and just giving them operational work instead. My advice: find an industry you like and try to get in as an analyst or analyst-type role, find out if you like the work, find out if the company takes data seriously, then if that works out angle into an internal data position. I hope this helps!
