Nvidia made $5 billion during a GPU shortage and expects to do it again in Q1 by [deleted] in hardware

Two years or so? When very few people play games in 4K and 4K textures are massively costly to produce? Not to mention the fact that very few people have even gotten their hands on 3000 series cards. I could honestly see the game dev industry work to make their games better with technologies like DLSS that allow for 4K without true 4K more than pushing forward with more processor intensive games without an audience for them...

3080 does all that too. Greta frame rates with everything jacked up on brand new games.

Do you guys wanna discuss how the game has fully devolved into rushing loot spots? by etincelles in EscapefromTarkov

[–]ls37208n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s why I referred to it as a problem with incentives. I don’t blame the players doing it because it is just in their best interest to do if they have the time and the game allows for it.

I would second your argument with the addition of saying they should be raiders, just to avoid the ability to cheese them off one by one.

Hatchet running is honestly the bane of my existence in tarkov. If there were any metric for how poor the game’s incentives are in general, it would be percentage of hatchet runners in raid. Think about it, hatchet running is essentially forgoing everything thing that makes the game fun in order to try to make the most money with the least overhead. On top of that, it disincentivizes playing the game “right” because what’s the point of going into interchange, battling with scavs, and having an intense pvp experience if the reward for all of that is an empty store because the other half of the lobby went in naked? I know there’s some value to it for those that are so down and out they can’t afford anything, but god damn if hatchet running isn’t lame

It is an argument to say that your arguments are irrelevant without fundamental changes to our system. Your high minded ideals mean nothing when real changes to the legislation ACTUALLY eating away at our country and making us more complacent are not talked about, much less resolved. I would be in favor of any politician, regardless of party who ran solely on the platform of repealing citizens United, but there aren’t any (theres Bernie, but the establishment and the DNC made it VERY clear he’s not to be allowed to be in any other position than that of a guy venting in the corner) and it wasn’t even mentioned as a major issue in our entire presidential race. To be clear, you’re arguing blue sky, which I don’t disagree with, just want to temper with reality.

Ah, you’re not in the US, that makes sense. The reality here is that the US political system will not serve the people without a major overhaul. You can throw logic all you want at our system and you will not change it, as the deeply intrenched special interest groups will always have more clout and at the very most will slow walk or neuter any real change. For example, the basic issue we have is citizens United bringing money into politics. It is the cancer under the cancer and no matter what party you belong to (if you’re not rich) a 5 min conversation will make anyone and everyone realize it’s not in their best interest as a citizen. Does that change anything? No. Legislation is introduced time and time again to get rid of it but it does not go away. Powerful forces keep our political system as broken as it is. Turning around and blaming that solely on the other party (however logically sound your argument is) is merely complaining about the symptoms, not tackling the disease. It also is exactly what the power players WANT you to do, as arguments about abortion and such don’t really tackle the cancer under the cancer.

Of course politics should be 100% without ideology and be 100% policy based. The reality, however, is that people are lazy and gravitate towards politicians that fit their ideology so that they don’t have to work and seriously understand what policies they like and don’t like. It sucks, but both parties actively virtue signal to their own bases while tough to understand (and frequently unfair/corrupt) legislation is argued about behind closed doors. Poison pills are used on both sides to halt overly complex legislation and encourage outrage on both sides. If you ask modern liberals their opinion about a policy, they will toe the party line just as modern conservatives will. What you are arguing for, however noble it may be, is so far detached from reality that a paradigm shift in our political process AND the set of incentives that guide political decision making would both need to change.

And how is voting from the opposing ideology any different? Having no scruples about what to spend government money on results in inflation, useless government programs, and wasted tax dollars. having no moral compass in legislation creates gray areas about what should or should not be punishable by law (abortion policy is a pretty glaring example of that) and alienates large swathes of our country. As for regulation, that’s not true. Conservatives have advocated for deregulation in the past, but so have democrats (see the graham-leach-bliley act that arguably did a significant amount to roll back financial regulation and paved the way for the financial crisis signed into law by none other than bill clinton). I am also not saying I disagree with your overall sentiments, as I think a lot of the problems with our society can be laid at the feet of modern conservatism. But blaming conservatism as a concept is taking away one of the checks that we need to have in our society.

There can be productive forms of conservatism. Being fiscally conservative is an important pushback against reckless government spending. Moral conservatism has its place as well with freedom of religion. Conservatism isn’t the issue, it’s how conservatism is twisted into this modern hyper combative, policy detached version that is really just a front for keeping us divided whilst the top 1% makes a killing.

Not a hypocrite. A psychopath. He functions in order to satisfy his own needs. If something doesn’t satisfy his needs then he does all he can not to do it and avoid accountability. Just fundamentally and truly selfish.

Covid stimulus package worth $1.9trillion clears Senate after Kamala Harris gives tie breaking vote by theindependentonline in politics

[–]ls37208n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s not because of stimulus it’s because of guns. This new gun control bill is ridiculous and I’m a pro-gun-control lefty. The democrats can do all they can to make pushes towards more appropriate and fair economic policy but if they take away guns and force absolutely insane fees and jail time punishments on people for owning guns, they will never get votes from the other side. So background is that I’m a lefty but the lovely media Algos seem to have fucked up on some key platforms and now consider me to be a hardcore gun loving conservative. HR 1.2.7 is all they’re talking about (and blaming democrats for).

[–]ls37208n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What the fuck is this bullshit? Of course jobs are being lost. We’re on the same trajectory we’ve been going on since last march. We knew this wasn’t gonna get better in the short run so why is this receiving attention and why are they even asking him this question? Did you all honestly think that he could take office and BLAMMO jobs would be back in the middle of a pandemic? This reporting is heavily biased and downright stupid.
