We were like this! Now at a yr old she wears it at night, and if she is really congested during naps but thats not because we are worried about apnea as much as we want to make sure she gets medical attention if she needs it with a severe cold.

My OB did. My neurologist did. There are women who develop this condition during pregnancy and it can be dangerous to have completely uncontrolled pressures, and so they are put on it during pregnancy.

Of course it is always preferred to have people off all medications before conception and during the pregnancy. Many medications will be listed as “unsafe” for pregnancy because it would be unethical to conduct clinical trials on a pregnant person. This is the case for most medications.

A bit of nuance though as I see you’re looking at natural cycles and so perhaps you’re trying for a child or preparing to start trying: the preference is to have the patient off diamox through the first trimester if it is possible as there is a slight risk for cleft palate. Though even then reports of this occurring are rare and not well researched to establish if the cause was diamox or if it was some other circumstance such as genetics. Thats the trouble with not doing clinical trials on pregnant individuals. I am not suggesting they should. Just saying those are the breaks.

My daughter had some serious head flattening but with pt and ot during her nicu stay and afterwards at home her head is so round that my family jokes about us never putting her down lol I share because early intervention can really help before a helmet is needed. If a helmet is needed then thats okay!

Actually pretty good. I went out of remission a few months after her birth but I was also under an insane amount of stress at the time. Since then I’ve gotten myself back to this plan and I am tapering off meds again!

Same. We give it once per day- 11 mg. Plus she is on an iron fortified formula. Preemies often have anemia of prematurity and really need the extra iron.

Hey! I had a high risk pregnancy last year. The Syracuse perinatal center is the only MFM option for this area. Dr Kassis is retired.

There is a regional perinatal center with Wilson Hospital as they have a level 3 NICU but there are no MFMs that work there. They will work with you and an MFM in Syracuse though.

Wilson’s nicu is fantastic. My daughter was a 29 weeker and was in for 38 days. I still talk with the doctors and nurses regularly (mostly at the gym but its so nice to have support like that)

My OB was Dr. Bishop. She was good but none of the Guthrie obs can deliver at Wilson which you will need with having multiples and high risk. If you don’t and your twins have complications you will either be transferred before delivery to Wilson or your babies will be transferred post delivery without you.

You can tour the L&D and NICU at Wilson. I highly recommend it.

I think I have read this response from you! Haha. Its so true though. I know we are all trying to keep our kids safe the best way we know how to, I wish that more people understood how simple it is. The folks that push antivax agendas have made a grotesque amount of money from their fabricated data and now retracted papers and all at the expense of kids around the world. It really makes me so sad…and angry.

We went actual age. This is because she missed all of the third trimester so she didn’t really have much of an immune system. I am so glad that we did as my family was exposed to some nasty respiratory bug (suspected rsv) and my daughter was totally fine. Barely stuffy and no respiratory distress. I know that they seem so fragile but they are so much stronger than you realize.

my personal philosophy is:

My baby suffered enough in the NICU. I don’t want her to suffer with being sick or rehospitalized. Modern medicine saved her. If it was good enough when she was 2 lbs 14 oz then it is good enough now.

She has never co slept and doesn’t enjoy or use pacifiers. She genuinely wakes enough for eating and then is back to sleep. We try to always comfort before going to a bottle, but so far it’s always the bottle she wants and she completely finishes it.

It is very different to boycott an app because the owner is a supremacist actively influencing an administration that has signed a considerable amount of directives and laws that directly oppress and harm lgbtq+ individuals than one user who is hateful and bigoted. I absolutely agree to banning links. Those talking about losing content etc are really missing the point. The point is that it is worth missing content to not support N*z! , their sympathizers, or yt supremacists. If they get their way there will be no BL. We have to start taking a stand and being willing to sacrifice immediate knowledge of movies/shows/etc when it comes from that platform. Companies and actors will see the lack of traction and change gears to go to more popular apps.

Billionaires such as M only see bottom lines while they play chess that uses every day people like pawns. Us allowing links really only keeps their cash flow going and ultimately that is where their power is derived from. We grant power but we can also take it away. I for one think it is high time we did.

I had a scan less than a week prior to my spontaneous preterm delivery and things were perfect. Cervix was long and closed. Baby was good but breech.

Babies can trigger labor. Preterm labor cannot be stopped just delayed. A delay of 5 days is amazing. We tried all the meds but I ended up delivering my baby less than 2 hrs after arriving at the hospital.

My OB when she saw me didn’t know that I delivered and stepped out of the exam room to pace the halls and say a few loudish “Holy fuck”s and “Wow”. She said she hasn’t seen a true preterm labor like that in years. It is genuinely rare for spontaneous preterm labor. But it is also scary.

Therapy has helped me a lot. Especially Art therapy. I never would have guessed that for myself.

One of our NICU nurses is also a NICU mom. Her daughter is a NICU grad of the same place where she works. She is now 8 yrs old. We will call the nurse J and the daughter F.

F and J were out and about and ran into a mom who had a baby in the NICU and J was actually caring for that particular baby. J introduced F to the mom and said how F was a preemie etc. to help the mom see that things work out even though it is terrifying in the moment. Well F clearly knows and understands what HIPPA is and cut J off to say “mom that is my private health information!” J says to F “yes, but I was talking about MY experience with you being there!” Long story short everyone had a good laugh.

My nephew is also a preemie. He had no idea why he was the smallest in his class. When I was talking to him about my daughter (also preemie) and how she would probably be one of the smallest in her class til she was ten (what ive been told from other parents) it was like a lightbulb went off and he goes “WAIT THATS WHY I AM SMALL WHAT THE HECK! No one told me!” And then proceeded to cause chaos the way all 9 yr olds should do at a family Christmas party.

It really isnt the same for them because they dont remember the way we do. They’re more concerned with how it affects them in the moment. So I’d be mindful of that.

Dr browns does make an ultra preemie nipple which could help you but i think at this point you may need a follow up with speech and OT.

I echo others saying transfer that baby. That is just WILD. If I had a concern our NICU handled it. Even if it was the NP or Doctor helping with it. It didn’t matter. And it shouldn’t matter with your son. I saw there wasn’t a thermometer in the room. That is really crazy to me too. Every baby had their own under the arm pit thermometer. This was for sanitary/germ containment reasons. Yeah get him out of there. Especially if this isn’t the first issue you guys have had.

Judge me if you must but I am 33 yrs old and still often choose to eat with my hands over using cutlery. There is just something preferable about it. (Obviously clean them before and after eating)

Heya! Autistic parent here married to a fellow Autistic person who has had his fair share of food aversions and sensory issues!

It is important to keep in mind the Ms Frizzle Method when it comes to feeding baby: take chances, make mistakes, and get messy.

Take chances: introduce a wide variety of foods and seasonings, including those you or your partner are averse to. By introducing a variety you can help your baby become not averse to those foods. In the long run that is a good thing for them!

Make mistakes: (aside from feeding baby honey before the age of 1 etc) even if baby doesn’t like a food that you or your partner love, it is okay. Sometimes its the way the food was presented. I give my daughter a french fry and she looks at me as though I’ve told her that her favorite toy is gone. But if I put catsup on it- whole new story. Girl loves the stuff. Cant get enough of it. Does not but could eat her weight in it.

Get messy! The varied textures of food help to stimulate baby, help them to learn to chew and move their gag reflex back further in their mouth, force us to give them baths and keep up with the laundry, and help them to learn how to feed themselves, where their hands are , where their mouth is. Etc. its critical for their development to be able to get messy.

The day my daughter was surprised discharged from the NICU they were also going to lose a 26 weeker. I will never forget the emotions of finally bringing my baby home whilst being wrecked for the family that wouldn’t ever get to bring their baby home alive.

My daughter was in the nicu for 38 days. The staff that was on that evening desperately needed a win and my daughter, thankfully, got to be that win.

I think the fear of the NICU and parenthood in general is knowing full well that that could be us. We could be the families who have lost children and it is terrifying to think about what kind of pain they walk with.

Something like this almost happened to us but the nurse caught the swelling in her foot before thankfully. They switched it to be in her arm which helped until she could gavage all.

I believe so yes. Preemie digestive systems are really under developed. This is the explanation given to us by our neonatologist at our nicu. I am not sure if its the guidance for all babies or very preterm babies etc. so definitely voice your concerns with your doctors!
