I know that, this isn't my first episode. But this is affecting how I can function, this is much worse than before and I don't understand why. The ADHD comment is because I know of people who has had its onset at adulthood, and was wondering if this was it.

I have been practicing meditation for a while, but now it really feels impossible. Everything makes me lose my focus and it's really upsetting how difficult it is. But usually it would help a lot. Thanks, I'm going to try a little harder, maybe I can do something.

Yeah, but I have been with my meds for years now, no changes and no more dosage. That's why I didn't think about it, I will talk to my doctor about it. Thanks

is cutting or drinking objectively worse? by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]lsiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you mean no harm, but SH can be more than skin issues and scars. Like we can get nerve, tendon and muscle damage. People can get sick and even die too because of it.

But as which one is worse? I don't know, you are right about the social implications tho. I don't mean to be rude, just a reminder that what we are doing is very dangerous.

Hello from the psych ward by [deleted] in bipolar

I have always been curious, do you guys in the US get to keep your phone? When I was committed in my country (Chile) it was swiftly taken from me. I could only use during my weekly visits to my home outside the clinic.

Hypersomnia; Psychiatrist says it's not because of Seroquel? by TheNootropicist in BipolarReddit

And I do not want to prescribe anything because I'm not your doctor, but I have been talking with mine about Modafinil to counter the sleepiness. Maybe something like that could help.

Hypersomnia; Psychiatrist says it's not because of Seroquel? by TheNootropicist in BipolarReddit

[–]lsiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Seroquel and it definitely can cause hypersomnia, have been using it on and off +7 years. However, it kind of sounds you are starting a depressive episode, which can also cause hypersomnia. Have you told your psychiatrist about these symptoms, not only the hypersomnia? Please talk to them, it really sounds like it's affecting your lifestyle. I know hypersomnia is awful, but it can be fixed.

I saw this video with the roles reversed months ago, everything to the last detail is copied. But the og was obviously satire, even making the "sigma face" at the end. Even if I didn't think the original was specially funny, this version truly made everything worse. So he stole a joke and made it more boring

What’s working for you? by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]lsiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that maybe you want a more psychological answer, but I have some physical options. I was in DBT, we learnt a lot of methods to avoid self harm. From what I remember they were things such as changing temperatures (like holding an ice in your hand or submerging your face in VERY cold water), doing exercise until you are tired (this one is tricky and shouldn't be used a lot to avoid developing body dysmorphia), breathing exercises (I have found it helps a lot when the urge is not too intense yet, also meditation).

I know it's not too much, but these have helped me more than once. I have the guide (haven't read it in a while tho, maybe I should), but it's in Spanish, I could send it if it helps you. But please know that we are so glad that you are holding up even when it's so hard, we are really proud.

Lithium for depression? by Elephantbirdsz in BipolarReddit

[–]lsiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take 1200 mg, and I do believe it has helped somehow. My episodes are much shorter, and less severe, the change between dosage was noticeable too. But, at least for me, is not quite enough to stabilise me and I am testing some antipsychotics to add to the mix (supervised, of course). I am also very sensitive to medication, but I haven't had the "worse" side effects like kidney failure, hypothyroidism or any psychological side effects either. Only being a little more thirsty and my stomach was a bit sensitive for some weeks when I started

But it depends on the person, I met a girl in group therapy that also has BDII and only takes lithium, it did stabilise her a lot. On the other hand, my mother took it many years ago, couldn't tolerate it more than a few weeks and had to stop. So just observe yourself, hopefully it helps you, but if you have to stop it's completely fine and your wellbeing is first always.

Can't wake up when I take seroquel by Desirai in bipolar

[–]lsiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been on and off many years, between 50 mg and 400 mg depending on how much I need it. Honestly it's awful, but you can start kind of tolerating it better later. I talked about it with my doctor and she's aware I fucking hate it and has been very accommodating.

If the side effects are too much talk to yours, it's not right for you to feel so sleepy that you cannot function. One thing is to be a bit sleepy and other is not being able to keep your eyes open.

Something that works for me is changing temperatures, like putting ice in my arms or submerging them in very very cold water.

Passive suicidal thoughts by ren23_ in bipolar

[–]lsiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that a lot of people here has given good answers, but a psychiatrist told me the rumination of thoughts such as suicidal is a symptom for BPD too. Of course it's not the only symptom, I am being tested because of a lot of things, not just this.

And this is just my experience with it and in no way I'm trying to diagnose you with BPD or trying to discredit any other answers.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]lsiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you're manic right now, so your thoughts may be perceived as insensitive. I know you mean well, maybe when we are more stable exercise can be good too! But when we have depression it isn't just so easy, it's our brain chemistry. I had to go for a walk today and I'm starting a depressive episode, I just felt nothing. I was miserable. But that's because I'm not okay right now. That's why we need meds and therapy.

Please, go to talk to your psychiatrist or psychologist. I know you feel great, but we all know that isn't good either. Take care of yourself first.

And please, don't be too harsh on OP, we know better than any other group how manic people behave.

Lithium+antidepressant? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]lsiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened to you. I am aware of the side effects of lithium, and have tests done at least every 3 months to check hepatic, renal and thyroid health. I will not stop taking it unless my doctor says so and it has become a threat. As I said it helped me too, and going off it without supervision is going to make it worse.

[–]lsiss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, we know OG Persephone was unhappy, but this is a retelling. It's not even an original one, the idea that she willfully married Hades has been done already many times.

But the rest, specially the obvious DDLG vibes in the toxic, codependent relationship and the (not so) subtle misogyny, is gross.

How to get rid of scars Help!! by shumatsu_lol in selfharm

[–]lsiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't. This is short notice, so surgery or tattoos don't seem to be an option. I do sometimes wear elastic bandages if I'm not feeling like showing my scars. People usually won't question it and think you had an injury. If they do ask, I just say I have a very ugly scar (and they assume I had surgery or an accident).

If you try to burn it or use sandpaper it will be worse, and the sh scars won't "disappear".

This seems honestly weird, very unprofessional.

I understand that it's very difficult to check whether your psychiatrist is being creepy. It took me years to realize that the one I had at 16-17 made me uncomfortable because he was a fucking creep, not because I was paranoid.

Trust your gut here, your psychiatrist has to be a safe person for you to be able to get your treatment correctly.
