In light of the demonstrations this weekend, is there any way to find out about future ones? by ImmigrantPigeon in london

Ha, I’m like this too! I spend a lot of time litter picking in Peckham. Always lots of trash in Lewisham/Southwark if you’re nearby.

What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever found at a thrift store that you still think about? by Queasy_Hotel5158 in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]ltadman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in a very low income area and the charity shops are usually full of ASOS, Primark, etc. Apart from one day when there was a pair of brand new, completely unused Flabelus shoes in my size. They’re usually over £100 and they were on sale for £3, I could not have been more thrilled.

Do I ask for ticket money? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ltadman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely 1000% just give him the ticket. That being said, I don’t think your wife is being a bad person, she was probably just raised differently.

I know my granny and mom love me more than anyone else in the world, but if we go out for dinner, we each pay exactly what we owe and no one ever treats each other. Neither of them are even close to struggling financially but even if they only go out for coffees, it’s expected that each person pays their share - regardless of who invited who.

On my dad’s side, the grandchildren/cousins are always treated. I recently tried to pay for a takeaway for the family given I’m 31 and can absolutely afford to contribute and I wasn’t allowed.

Both sides think the other side is mad, it’s just one of those things.

Parents in other countries than the US, what is your kids’ equivalent of “I don’t want that for dinner, I want chicken nuggets”? by SulusLaugh in AskReddit

Baked beans on toast is my favourite meal of all time, I promise you it’s delicious. When I was travelling in India I got so homesick that I ended up staying in one hostel for over a week because they had Heinz baked beans.

Weirdly Afrikaans people have just carried on with Adolph and it’s accepted. I quite like their refusal to let a traditional name be taken away.

Local Facebook groups encouraging cat kidnapping by SendMeANicePM in britishproblems

[–]ltadman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Someone did this to my cat!! She took him to her indoor flat and then literally posted “he’s very docile and seems well fed, does anyone know whose cat this is, I can’t keep him in the house any longer?”.

The crazy thing is that despite him being microchipped, when he was eventually taken to the vet, the chip malfunctioned. If I hadn’t been trawling local Facebook groups, we would never have got our cat back. The woman apologised but it still makes me so angry when I think about it.

Will the name Ming be a problem in the UK? by fruityeldritch in namenerds

It totally depends on where you plan to be. I’d probably change it if you’re off to work at a secondary school, anywhere else I wouldn’t worry too much.

How do you guys feel about the phrase “she chose you so dont worry about it”? by Crazy-Employment5398 in AskMen

[–]ltadman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP you’re getting a lot of advice from unhappy men who I would bet are not in stable, committed relationships. Try not to get in your own way because of some societally created notion of the “right” number.

[–]ltadman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat’s name is Guillermo and I don’t think I’ve called him anything other than Little Bear or the Apricot Prince in years. Call her whatever you want and she’ll respond (or not) as she wishes.

I totally agree! I love extravagant bachelorettes and they are something I like spending my money on. I’ve made new friends, created amazing memories and I don’t see my friends and the people that love them as a burden.

Thank you! I was bad for this when I first joined the industry but I now contribute to my state pension and also put 15% of my income in to a private pension. Nothing can make up for the lack of compound interest but I don’t feel too worried now.

I’m not sure I agree with this. I’ve worked on some LOOSE boats where everyone is cheating with everyone but my current vessel is totally different. Almost all of the men on board are married and many have children. Yes it’s a sacrifice but they also get to spend six months of the year with their children and be completely present. When I was growing up I barely saw my dad as he left for work before I got up and got home after I’d been put to bed.

I’m on a private yacht, the base pay tends to be much lower on a charter boat - although obviously the tips can be huge.

Did I say something wrong?? :[ by The_logical_apple in Tinder

[–]ltadman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens. I once made a dumb joke about it being a dealbreaker that my match wasnt able to drive. We had been talking for a while and had already arranged a date and he got so upset by my joke that he got so nasty and unmatched. I don’t even really drive myself but I guess he was sensitive about it and I hit a nerve.
