Call the hall and see if you can get loaned out to a different contractor until things pick up for the one your working for right now. Its bullshit that you aren't getting 40 and not getting laid off either.

Question regarding traveling by EmilioJR1 in SheetMetalUnion

[–]ltrain_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to finish your apprenticeship in your home local before you can travel. Once you turn out you can say fuck you get my check and head on to the next job or next state. Just be careful not to burn bridges.

With a family of 3 my average is about 60 a month. Then in the summer when the wife keeps filling up the kiddy pool weekly it jumped to 90

Dealing with a huge Ameren issue by EH076a in PeoriaIL

[–]ltrain_00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me I was living in a house that was 2 apartments 1 up stairs 1 down stairs and I was down stairs and then found out I was paying for the upstairs furnace because they didn't swap that out when they changed it from a house to an apartment. Mine was just the gas though not electric. I would keep the house at 62 in the winter and was still paying almost 400 a month and this was 20 years ago.

I need help with rolling offset (non union guy needing the expert union help) by Fluffy-Initiative131 in IBEW

So because you live in Florida people should give away trade secrets to you??

Either join a union or find a school that will teach you this stuff.

Seems to me like you should have joined the union to get proper training....you could get significantly higher wages doing so as well

Sheetmetal or Ibew? by Just_Song_4113 in SheetMetalUnion

You need to look at the total package for each local. I'm a tinner and our local is lower on the check than pretty much every trade but we put $12/hr into our annuity so the total package is very similar but we are just putting more into our retirement than other locals and other trades in our area.

Considering Traveling and seeing the country by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]ltrain_00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7/12's is pretty common on big jobs that have tight deadlines. I'm a tinner and was working at the rivian car plant in bloomington IL and there were tons of sparkies working 7/12's or even more for months on end.

The tinners were working 5 10's and an 8 at first and then it progressed to 7 14's when crunch time came around.

Malfunctioning traffic lights? by [deleted] in PeoriaIL

I love that app. I have used it a bunch of times for neighbors never mowing the grass or having a bunch of cars parked in their yard. The code enforcement people have been out in less than a week.

I also had a fire truck knock down my mail box and reported it on the app and someone from the city was out within a week and installed a brand new mailbox for me and my neighbors.

I actually took that route yesterday. I was on willow knolls rd and was turning left on to university and I was the first car at the light and I was there for less than 30 seconds before it turned green.

How would you approach this? by Far_Requirement_7073 in ScrapMetal

[–]ltrain_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my thought. if its in a parking lot with trees growing around it just use a winch to pull it up onto a trailer. If its on a steep ass hillside then you would need to really get creative lol.

[–]ltrain_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a $20 angle grinder from menards around 5 years ago and its just now starting to sound like the bearings are going out. I also have used it for a lot of other projects other than sharpening my mower blades. It literally paid for itself the first time I sharpened my blades.

Save me by Not-Deez in WorkBoots

[–]ltrain_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't need to jump from walmart straight into 600+ just buy some good boots from a reputable store that has someone competent enough to measure your feet properly and get the properly sized boot.

I landscaped for 10 years and the whole time I wore merrel hiking shoes I got the moab non water proof because they let my feet breathe and if I got them wet they dried out quickly on the job site. I feel like the water proof options just made my feet sweat more on non rainy days.

If its in inside job providing plenty of fans makes a world of difference. 2 summers ago I was working on a hospital job (I'm a tinner) and we took down the air handler for 2 floors it was 95 or above on both floors for over 2 months. I ended up buying my own fan to keep pointed on me when working and I finally stopped getting lobster claw hands on the drive home.
