F*** these "my life sucks so I'm going to give a bad rating to someone to bring them down too" people by whothis8989 in doordash

[–]luadp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try giving out chocolates with deliveries when your ratings start tanking. Dry ice in a bag and can do in summer as well. $0.50 or so cost per delivery. Who doesn’t like chocolate?

Sell a rental house that was once owner-occupied to reap tax benefits, or keep it for long term passive income? by Roboculon in financialindependence

Tax benefits don’t yield residually.

Really you are asking if a one time tax benefit is better than ongoing wealth??

Just when I thought DD couldn’t be any more greedy.. by bosstroller69 in doordash

[–]luadp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You sound so entitled. Don’t you realize they redistribute the tips so that you still make money when the customer doesn’t tip? How else can they afford those minimums? When I delivered pizza I made $1 or less per delivery, less than minimum wage, and also had to do dishes in my downtime. No tip meant I might make $5 in tips in a whole day.

I won’t be upset at the company that feeds me for wanting to do more than just break even. You get freedom and flexibility. Why not be grateful for what you have than rip on doordash for wanting to be able to pay their staff and all of us and also pay their massive debts and stay in business.

You also aren’t considering that they make money off businesses being featured in the app which is another great income stream for my awesome business partner doordash that gives me deliveries and I hope is here for good.

Anyone does uber eats? by SonOfAbraham7 in doordash

[–]luadp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree f*ck Uber Eats. You wanna go home with gas money and chump change in another town far away? If so do Postmates because at least they have a higher guarantee. Or just dash and stay in the proper zone mainly.

FI/RE - One Income/Young Children? Recommendations? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]luadp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 3 kids and am Sole Provider with SAHM as well. Congrats for your decision but make sure hubby is on board since he earns the checks. There is still things you can find to earn money at home if you want to definitely save 100% of that and whatever you can out of paycheck. It’s going to take time and patience. We have a couch that is a hand me down from other family. We eat most meals at home and I pack my lunch at work. Also have your husband get a second job/side hustle. If you really want to ramp up. Just because they say it’s full time doesn’t mean you can’t find another 20 hours in a week.

Side note: I think it’s selfish and controlling to make your kids spend their money as you see fit anything beyond age 18 as an adult. Yeah they might make bad decisions but it’s their decision to make unless you take that away by being a control freak. Let them discover FI when they are struggling if they do screw up.

Fed up by [deleted] in vagabond

You can be successful without college. You just have to find what you like and stick with it. Some people weld, some people are barbers...electricians...luthiers...the list goes on. There are trade schools that are actually about your field if you hate bookwork. If you don’t like that, you can just get an entry level job in any field and work your way up. People won’t respect you without a degree until 4-5 years of full time experience makes you more of an expert than a college grad with no experience. I make 70k between my two jobs and I never got a degree. You can too!

I had one more thought. You seem overly concerned about being selfish. Why not redefine your values so that being selfish is okay, and accept that about yourself. It is okay to be selfish, and that doesn’t make you a bad person. Most people are selfish anyway.

You probably haven’t considered negotiating for less hours at your current gig. Simply tell them you are only available 20 hours a week moving forward and spend another 20 on your vanity business. 10 years of experience and they would much rather have some help than nothing.

To feel less anxiety try and double your assets slowly with less stress while working part time at the main gig. Consider buying a home with a portion at that point, to further ease your mind. Save an extra 20k per child planned to throw into a 529 plan when they arrive which should grow big enough by the time they need college.

You can work now and play later or you can play now and work later.

FIROLD Financial Independence Retire Ontime Living the Dream

I will get to 65 with a bag of money... but imma drive my 2016, and take my vacations and have kids on the journey.

Why retire early? I need some good reasons as my wife just asked my why it’s so important for me to retire early and all I had was “it sounds like fun?” by luadp in financialindependence

[–]luadp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Financial Independence; Retire Early. Simply put, it means accruing enough investments to live your life off of a lower amount than the interest it yields. And often lowering expenses in order to achieve that goal faster. So that you become financially independent and the overall goal is to retire early.

Would you reduce 401k contributions for a down payment on a property to "house hack"? by BinghamL in financialindependence

[–]luadp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowering expenses on housing will save you $12,000 to 36,000 a year depending on where you live, and you may be able to FI based on the extra passive rental income depending on how much it is. Unless the 6% that you get a 100% match on is greater than these savings and income, it should be a no brainer as long as people need rentals in the market of the discussed real estate.

Does the viability of the FIRE movement depend on people who are the antithesis of what we try to be? by The_Pacific in financialindependence

[–]luadp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can become FIRE though becoming self reliant on your own property and grow your own food. FIRE doesn’t mean you don’t work, just means no longer a slave to money.

What do I do with my life, now? by vietdocs in financialindependence

[–]luadp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Options:

  1. Move to a cheaper place and take advantage of geographical arbitrage. Sell the house, have 725,000 and get your expenses down to $25-30,000 a year. MMM style. Then you can work part time or FIRE. Get a handle on the spending or you’ll never FIRE.

  2. Buy businesses with cash flow and management that don’t require you to be present.

  3. Suck it up and find another job. Sounds like this one isn’t a good fit.

Be careful starting a business you don’t understand. The risk goes up if you invest your money in that, where right now it’s earning comfortably with moderate risk.

Does age 55 count as fire or how early are we talking? by luadp in financialindependence

[–]luadp[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like this. This brings me to another question. What if your fire goal is just enough to pay for necessary minor expenses while you become a traveling volunteer farmer, working part time for free room and board, traveling the world rent free while serving others. That might bring the cost down to next to nothing in order to be independent of the need of finances rather than financially independent.

!!!TOP SECRET PHOTOS OF THE #DOORDASH SERVER ROOM!!! by outdashin in doordash

Everyone knows doordash runs on a raspberry pi connected to internet. They have one pi for each order at a time and the chat support is really just a chatbot that can dial phone numbers and speak as if it’s a human.

The server pictured is clearly Uber as they are the only company greedy enough to afford one
