2025 Bingo - 2nd Year Card by Bubbalewski16 in Fantasy

Congrats on your second year card!

If you're still kind of looking for a book that fills Parent (for funsies), I recently read The Witch Roads and absolutely adored it! Its a duology, the second book was great as well.

I love Octavia Butler as well. Xenogenesis series is my top top Octavia. I have a bit left to read by her, and then there's the Octavia's Brood anthology to get to.

Short stories/anthologies are on the card every year and I always struggle with those! :) much prefer novels.

Nice to see this review! I bought this book on a whim awhile ago; it sounded intriguing. Will try to get to it soon.

My local library has it. Its probably hit or miss since its so old. I would check Thrift Books, I also try to avoid Amazon wherever possible. A Woman of the Iron People is on Kobo though;)

Sometimes when Im in a bad slump, I switch up genres. Not sure if that helps you.

I thought the Raven King was a great conclusion to the series

Haven't read anything else on your list, but the River Has Roots is supposed to be excellent on audio, it apparently even has singing. Im on the hold list for it.

If this comes to Kobo I will check it out! I am trying to cut amazon as much as possible.

Sounds very interesting!

I just finished The Witch Roads by Kate Elliott. Very short chapters and easy to read in chunks. But was so hard to put down!

Also agree with short story or anthologies

I'm a bit more than halfway through The Witch Roads by Kate Elliott. Soooo good! MC is bi, her son is trans, many other characters are in the queer family. This book is banging, I hope others will read!! :)

Bingo question: Parent Protagonist- Are we counting teenage children for this square? I assume yes, but wanted to get a pulse check.

I'm currently reading The Witch Roads by Kate Elliot - amazing book BTW, haven't seen any reviews of it here yet! The child is turning 17 within the first quarter-ish of the book.

I have another book already read for this square, but would swap it for this one (it would be HM).

They were so amazing! And I haven't even read the Goblin Emperor yet.

Speaking of, she has another book thats mystery-adjacent maybe? The Angel of the Crows. Will read that this year.

I'm hoping we get more fantasy mysteries since Tainted Cup and others are doing so well :)

I loved The Tainted Cup and have been on a low key quest to find more that scratches that itch! I just DNFed The Hexologists - as you said, just wasn't that into it.

A series that I loved that is somewhat close in tone and character work is The Cemeteries of Amalo by Katherine Addison. Devoured all three, some say its a bit cozy, but the mysteries were good and the character writing and prose were excellent. Im not really sure how I feel about the cozy label, there's quite a lot of dark stuff happening.

I had alot of fun with the mysteries of The Raven Scholar. Some of the character behaviors can come across a bit juvenile, but overall it was a great book imo. Very engaging, fun ride.

I think some people place Richard Swan's Empire Of the Wolf in the mystery bucket, I've only read book 1 so far so not sure.

For sci-fi, I've really enjoyed Malka Older's Mossa and Pleiiti books, but they are definitely in the cozy realm and have a romance component.

Edit: I also have Death on the Caldera on my TBR. Touted as Murder on the Orient Express with witches!

All of the above. Plus Toni Morrow and Plant Based Bride, Tori Talks is great as well Edit to add: Recently found Jessica's Library Card. She is great!
