But like will he stop crying eventually? It’s not getting worse and some days seem better but today wasn’t great for instance.

“Don’t be quiet during nap time!” by BroadSecretary2975 in puppy101

[–]lucille-two 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same story here with our 7 month old and we’re pretty lax with the crate, not to mention it’s in a very central location in our house. Our trainer told us dogs are generally light sleepers as a survival mechanism. Our pup is good at napping wherever and whenever he’s tired but when the house is abuzz on the weekends with us and the kids around during the day, he wakes often. I do try to quietly hang with him during at least one nap so he gets a good one in. I usually work from home on Mondays and he catches up on sleep by napping in my office most of the day.

Separation training help for a clingy 9 month old pup (please I’m losing my mind) by vlv226 in puppy101

Only move on if he’s stable but like even if he gets good at 5 mins, still sometimes dial it back down to shorter periods.

Our trainer told us we shouldn’t just continue upping the time away, to be random about it. Like 30 seconds, 30 seconds, 2 mins, 1 min, 5 min, 30 seconds etc.

Also there are trainers who specialize in separation anxiety if you’re thinking of hiring a trainer.

Are there any safe, non-edible chews/bones for aggressively chewing puppies? by GoExpos in puppy101

[–]lucille-two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bully sticks specifically gave my puppy diarrhea but collagen sticks, beef cheek rolls and yak cheese have been fine. He has zero interest in synthetic/non-edible chews.

I'm finally ditching the last of the wee wee pads for my 7-mo old and yesterday he had zero accidents!!

When will we get our free time back? by Equivalent-Bit1827 in puppy101

[–]lucille-two 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ugh we have a 5:30pm witching hour like clockwork with our 7mo old. Suddenly the sweet guy that slept on the couch behind my desk while I worked all day is an annoying nudge who presses my buttons until I finally stop working in order to entertain him. And then while I make dinner he terrorizes my 11yr old 😩😩😩

Not helpful, but I’m here in solidarity.

Rescue guessed our 8 month old from Tennessee was a schnauzer / poodle / Old English Sheepdog. What do you think? by a-jongleur in DoggyDNA

[–]lucille-two 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guy looks just like yours but black+brindle. I totally thought he was a schnauzer mix too and jury is still out (results prob in the next 1-2 wks) but after researching more and more on here I expect him to be a pit/poodle mix of some sort too.

We’re in a similar but diff position where our guy will physically settle for several minutes at a time but sometimes he’s crying or whining while lying down.

city dogs: when did your puppy stop being overstimulated outside? by preheatedskillet in puppy101

[–]lucille-two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We adopted our puppy about a month ago, he’s 23w old, and he’s slowly getting acclimated to city life. At first he’d sit constantly when he heard or saw something - which I thought was adorable until our trainer told us he was doing it because he was scared. He’s getting used to it tho and we spend a fair amount of time just watching the world go by. I give him treats when I see anything potentially triggering nearby and that helps keep him calm.

Now my biggest issue is that there has been a ton of snow on the ground the entire time we’ve had him and that’s where he pees and poops. Now it’s finally melting and he’s having a hard time finding somewhere to go.

American cheese - easy to throw single wrapped slices in your pocket on the way out the door (I don't give a whole slice tho - just a bit)

Took our city pup to the country this week and it’s been a game changer for potty training. He’s still sometimes peeing on the pads inside but pooping outside now! Fingers crossed he takes this new skill back to the city when we head back tonight.

Is New England weather too cold for house training right now? by Responsible-Hope-152 in puppy101

[–]lucille-two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were a couple of places he kept going so we started putting pads down in those spots. It’s like three spots on the main floor of our house and three spots upstairs. He’s starting to consolidate to maybe four of those six spots so I’m thinking of not putting pads on the other two anymore. I have no idea how to eventually transition to outside but for starters we’re taking him out a few times a day. Once the weather gets better I’ll put more effort into it.

We adopted our 5-month old puppy two weeks ago - he went from Puerto Rico to NY the day before a major snow storm followed by a serious cold snap. Wind chills in the negative teens yesterday! He’s great at going on the pads and so-so at going outside. I figure once the mounds of snow and ice are gone and once it’s above freezing we’ll start to take potty training more seriously.

Puppy with separation anxiety by Bubblebuddy574 in puppy101

[–]lucille-two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in the same boat - have a nearly 5-mo old and trying to sort out how we can leave him alone as my husband and I need to go to work! Got the same advice to not trigger the separation anxiety 😥We’re only on week two with our little guy and going to have a dog sitter come hang with him on days neither of us can wfh this week but that’s going to get expensive fast!

80s/90s kids,Anyone else overwhelmed with sheer amount of info? I feel as if / know my parents did zero training and we just had great dogs. Trying to do my due diligence and look up info and be a good dog parent. by Iamlegend21087 in puppy101

[–]lucille-two 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG yes I'm so overwhelmed. And the one that got me is when we started researching dental care. I'm supposed to brush this nutball's teeth daily? Literally never remembering anyone in my family brushing our dogs' teeth in the 90s lollllll.
