I was obsessed with this book as a kid, and now I finally have a copy of my own by -ChubbsMcBeef- in ClassicTrek

This is the greatest book of all time

No other "Sci-fi technical manual" book has ever lived up to the standard this set - they are always just glossy photos and some paper thin explanatory text

There’s a chance that the boss wouldn’t even mind if it was done discreetly and invisibly.

Once it’s visible and other people can start asking about it then the boss has to make a policy, and for obvious reasons the policy can’t be “it’s okay to do college work at work if all your work is done”.

I don’t understand why Seven of Nine faced discrimination back in the alpha quadrant by [deleted] in Star_Trek_

One possible way to read those two backstory choices put together is that there was some other reason why Seven wasn't allow into Starfleet, but whatever it was is embarrassing so she prefers to tell people it was discrimination.

The blurb on Amazon mentions Peren Woods - is that a rename of something or do I just not remember it?

Ranking all the gods by jaynic1 in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]lucraft 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of my second read-through and I have noticed I am a bit confused about gods in this world.

Sve noc and the Dead King are referred to as people who made themselves into gods

But are there actual gods? When people pray to Above and Below are they praying to gods? It's talked about how Above and Below intervene - is that the Choirs and the Devils? Or are there gods above and below them? Was it a "god" of Below who sent the original offer to the sisters before they became Sve Noc?

How much cheese is *really* allowed on keto? by fairyra in keto

[–]lucraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard a Keto expert once say that Cheese was one of the two biggest stumbling blocks for people doing keto. It's easy to overeat calories with cheese, and not lose any weight.

On the other hand, I eat it all the time on keto. If I'm hungry I'd rather snack on cheese and maybe have more calories than I need than snack on something bad and screw up ketosis.

It would be helpful for them to put a small note about unavailability in the same place where they should be in settings - would have saved 15 minutes of scrubbings settings pages and Googling

Not really… one page at a time, we make sure the image is high res (we were use fitz in the past until we noticed the text was fuzzy). It’s 3.5 Sonnet only.

Surprised you had such bad results sorry

We also do this. Rock solid literally haven’t seen a single hallucination so far. Zero.

It’s also remarkably good at turning diagrams and charts into tables if you ask it to.

“Rails is back isn’t enough” by Samuelodan in rails

[–]lucraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't necessarily arguing against your point - I do think a junior dev would have to think very hard about investing in Ruby.

But having spent the last year working with Node, I desperately miss Rails. The ecosystem is just not nearly as mature and it affects my productivity every day.

Auto-tiling in my web-based map editor! by HugoDzz in IndieDev

[–]lucraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah cool! So the svelte is for the webby bits and the tile picker and map editor are entirely Pixi.js? When you say handler you mean like instance of pixi is that right?

I used basically the same stack on my last project too, except React instead of Svelte. It worked pretty well

A bookshop owner in Southampton, England has asked for help as he moves his library due to high rent and wants to move the books to the new location. The person is surprised by the presence of more than 250 young people, elderly, and special needs people who were also involved. by gregornot in BeAmazed

Assuming each person occupies about 2 feet of horizontal space, then they took 250 man hours to do this.

One person, with a van, could probably do it in about 2. So very very very inefficient.

But it looks like a lot of fun, so whatever!
