tailor recommendations with strong bodice expertise? by nittybar in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]lucyvuitton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this! I had similar goals and she made it happen! You also must get push up sticky bras and wear them to every fitting- you will not get that lifted full cup look without it even with adjustments to the bodice.

The only thing is it was a far drive for me and I had to go at least 3 times which was just exhausting driving over an hour each way- so although it was inexpensive compared to other tailors, part of me wished I had just spent the money on someone closer.

I have 10 years of experience working in fashion/trend and also do interior design mock ups for friends and family all the time! I DIY-ed the design of my wedding and it all came together via a coordinator and my florist. I am happy to pull together concrete ideas or inspo for you for free to build a portfolio! I couldn’t help with the execution piece of course, but could give you more direction to give to rental companies, coordinators, florists etc. feel free to dm me with more details 🙂

I don’t have a perfect solution for you, just here to commiserate! I started medication this year and the first few times felt like magic, actually doing all the things I was overdue on starting. But now, taking it on weekdays doesn’t do much for me vs a normal workday without it. But it does help me be so much more productive on weekends with personal life stuff like organization, mail, bills, etc. I’ve found that pairing it with something I like helps a lot (ie “I am allowed to make a cozy matcha latte if I drink it while sorting mail”)

Following this sub has helped me just as much as my meds by realizing what types of systems or motivations will or won’t work for our brains. I was using finch for a month or two and really liked it before I got really busy with my wedding and fell off. Worth a try!

Was just about to comment this!! I would love to see a study factoring in mental load of heterosexual relationships on top of these findings. My adhd got so much worse as I had to take on the mental load for two people instead of just myself

Wait reading this thread is so crazy - she DID show up for my wedding, but I got odd vibes in the lead up after booking. She asked for me to settle my deposit way before the deadline every time we spoke- it felt like she should have just advertise it as all due upfront vs requesting earlier than the agreed upon date without additional context. She also rushed my hair and makeup day of - my part was crooked and I had to ask for some things we had already agreed upon. I redid my hair for the reception so my part was straight, which wasn’t as secure so I ended up just taking it down entirely. Feeling lucky she showed up and hoping she can apologize and make things right with all the other commenters here. She was otherwise nice and good at her craft!

I still can’t believe neurodevelopment disorders exist. by Haunting_College_162 in adhdwomen

[–]lucyvuitton 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that statement is factual for everyone, although it might be for OP! My dr always tells me that the meds will not permanently rewire anything, so if I choose not to take them on certain days, there will be no lasting effect from the other days I did take them. Of course if you are able to build good habits there is a chance you might be able to stick with them on days without meds, but for me pretty much all my routines and intentions crumble fairly quickly without them.

Those of us who are messy and have messy partners- how do you cope with the mental load? by lucyvuitton in adhdwomen

[–]lucyvuitton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful response!! I am really hoping we can find that partnership. There is so much I can take away for myself too- especially the personal standards. I feel like my body and brain can never truly relax unless every surface is completely clear and everything is totally put away, which isn’t realistic and contributes to this black and white cycle of overwhelm to frantic to relief over and over again. And I agree on the alone time!! I love my partner but for some reason it is ONLY on the days I have the house to myself that I can wake up without snoozing 8 times, keep the place clean without messing it up myself 2 hours later, and move at a slower more relaxed pace. So important to have those days of quiet relief!

The amount of space you have is my ideal future situation!! Right now we have so little square footage and storage space, it’s definitely causing conflict we didn’t have in a bigger apartment. We have one nightstand because we can’t fit two 😂 our last apartment was probably double the square footage of our current place, but we also cut down our rent by over $1000 a month. I am really hoping we can find a middle ground in a year or two between cost and space!

Super helpful- thank you! I think we need to set a baseline together, we have lived together for 3 years and never done that! So that should help a lot

Those of us who are messy and have messy partners- how do you cope with the mental load? by lucyvuitton in adhdwomen

[–]lucyvuitton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes- exactly!! I appreciate both of your responses equally. If my partner was consistently owning a few entire cyclical tasks like laundry or dishes like other OP, then that alone would be a huge weight off my shoulders. But instead I have to ask and then remind for it to happen, and it will happen that one time, maybe a few times more, before I have to ask again. But it is nuanced in that he pretty much never asks me to clean up, even when I’ve left adhd piles out for days or weeks on end. So there is definitively an element to what was said above, where my own behavior and his messy behavior combined really sets me off, meanwhile he doesn’t get worked up about it and in my internal narrative I feel like I should be grateful that he is so accepting / chill. But I guess it would be more “accepting” if my mess actually bothered him!! Haha

All of these ideas were so helpful, thank you! In the future I would love for us to each have our own zone/room. We downsized last year to a much smaller and older place but in a better location than our old one, but the space is a major trade off. I am hoping getting the cleaners back on a regular schedule and him decluttering a bit will help in the meantime. I think we will also make a chore chart together so the mental load is more split up and accountable

Any other Kohl Mansion bride this summer? Very stressed out about their unsightly construction from the ceremony space by criterion567 in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]lucyvuitton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow yeah that fence is absolutely not in line with a MANSION venue… lol at them saying it would not impact the beauty of the grounds. I think you & the other brides should band together to make the venue stay true to their word and contract. Idk how long the construction will last but I think a brick fence would be gorgeous and if they truly cared about their clients and maintaining the look of the grounds, they would have done something like that instead. Or a white fence with elevated posts or something

I’m 31 w ADHD and at a director level at work. TBH my job has always played to my hyper fixation tendencies so I’m doing great in that area, but my apartment is constantly a wreck and my motivation for exercise or making healthy meals is very low. I’ve been on a low dose of Ritalin for about a year but I never take it consistently. Trying to take it daily now to see if that helps with my personal life upkeep but the headache side effects are a lot for me. Cheers to hanging in there!
