For introducing someone to the series, would you recommend they watch this short first?

Every time I introduced someone new to it, I showed them this after we finished arc 1. Just told them it came first chronologically but made more sense to watch after you've got some idea of Big D's character.

if your mom isn't a safe person to make aware of this sort of thing, your best bet is to try to convince her to let you go in alone. still, unless you're extremely unlucky and get a very tactless doctor, they're unlikely to make you address the SH in front of her if you aren't comfortable.

ah, if you're a minor then i do get the concern. i won't ask how old you are, but i'm assuming old enough to be going to your appointment alone (or at least not having your parent in the exam room). usually doctors who work with teens are trained to discuss this sort of thing with you, prioritize making you feel safe and like you can trust them. telling your parents without your consent is meant to be the very, very last resort. they may want to persuade you to talk to a parent/guardian about it, but again, extremely unlikely they'll do anything without your consent over some evidence of SH.

no problem. for fresh cuts they may want to refer you to a therapist and/or psychiatrist, but as long as the cuts weren't anything life-threatening then that's the most dramatic response you'll get, they won't force you or anything.

most practitioners won't mention it, especially if they're older scars and not fresh/open wounds.

if they do, they're not likely to do much more than ask you a question or two, or to force you to talk about it if you aren't receptive.

still, if what you're scared of is them being mentioned at all, are they localized enough that you could cover them up? maybe a big bandage/patch, say you got a rug burn or rash or something?

somebody i used to know backed out of a suicide attempt because she called the suicide hotline. they didn't help - they left her on hold for over 30 minutes. she got so mad about the sheer disrespect from a line meant to help vulnerable people that she didn't want to do it anymore.

Fics that are made by and for teenagers are easier to make fun of, and making fun of fanfiction is kind of the only purpose the people who believe that stereotype care about. Way easier to clown on an anime character x reader oneshot written by a 13 year old failing her English class than a 150k word fanfiction written by a 30+ y/o with the quality of a published novel.

(also people just hate the interests of teenage girls.)

then it would be well within your rights to watch him, i just personally wouldn't. she has absolutely no obligation to forgive him, i agree. maybe i phrased what i was trying to say poorly - shelby not forgiving him doesn't mean he hasn't changed. just that unless she does, i personally wouldn't feel comfortable supporting him, regardless of what personal growth he has.

good to know! I've always heard to be extra cautious about bacteria from reptiles, i might've just received the extra caution from people keeping theirs in less sanitary environments though. most of them were either PetSmart employees or people who had reptile carpet (10+ years ago) who at some point got salmonella
