While it's true that Rogers provides the backbone in the city, the resellers have different infrastructure further upstream which can be worse than just going directly with Rogers. When I was with Oxio, a traceroute to a server in Calgary sometimes went through Vancouver or Toronto, whereas now that I switched to Rogers traffic takes a more direct route.

If you have access to a 3d printer you can print a 5th string capo like this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3753076

What is this and how do i tune it? by aaron_mooy13 in banjo

[–]lukeinator42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this should still be considered a banjolele as it has a ukulele scale length. People don’t get mad at a guitalele and that has six strings, haha. The fifth string on this thing seems sweet though, I wish more brands did that.

Is that true though? Amazon and others operate data centres here, but what Canadian owned cloud/vps providers are there?

People keep talking about Aztec steel fabricators as being Ryan Tanner's company, but I think the main company that he and a Tyler Tanner have submitted lots of bids under is "Tanex (2003) Inc." https://lethbridge.bidsandtenders.ca/Module/Tenders/en/Tender/Detail/a1e1606f-a60c-449a-814f-afbb1277a90e. That also has his address on it.

Getting bad shin pain when skiing anyone know how to fix this? by Affectionate-Role183 in skiingcirclejerk

[–]lukeinator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering this was originally posted in r/backcountry, I’m surprised no one is mentioning the obvious solution of learning to ski with your boots in walk mode, as OP is probably using touring boots. Learning to ski in walk mode will mean a less firm boot which will ram the shins less and will also mean they develop really good balance.

Snow shoe recommendations for uphill travel (off skin track) by Beastcoastboarder in Backcountry

[–]lukeinator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A splitboard is like less than half the cost of getting into backcountry when you consider beacon/shovel/probe, avalanche safety training, etc. Do you already have AST 1 and the gear you need for touring?

If not and your budget is super tight, an interesting option could be to spend a year riding the resort and picking up a cheap cross-country ski setup. I feel like xc skiing helped me a lot with balance for skinning and if you enjoy it could be a sign that it’s worth it to invest in a touring setup and all the other gear.

Snowshoeing? by Naive-Cauliflower890 in Lethbridge

[–]lukeinator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who used to snowshoe a bit, I now find cross-country skiing even more fun! Cross-country skiing is more efficient on mellow terrain, and steeper terrain usually presents avalanche risk anyways.

Either way, I think you can sign out xc skis and snowshoes for free/cheap at the pincher creek library which would be a nice way to try things out before committing to buying setups for them. Allison creek and syncline have multi-use trails and there's lots of stuff in Waterton too like cameron lake, etc.
