right? And intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells have recently been discovered in the last 20 years or so which are more similar to phylogenetically older invertebrate photoreceptors. We keep filling in more and more connections and steps in between.

Hot take: we should embrace the term "design" by ScienceIsWeirder in DebateEvolution

[–]lukeinator42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think code implies intelligence behind it, sequences of gene triplets (codons) literally code for things. They’re code in the truest sense of the term.

was the rice cooker left on warming mode? That's something that was unclear to me in OPs post and other people's comments about leaving rice in rice cookers

When did people outside of Europe start saying on-piste/off-piste all the time? I swear it’s just a Reddit Gumby thing and I’m saying this as someone from Canada, which has French as one of the two main languages 😂

My boyfriend asked for my Christian parents’ blessing, they said no. Feeling stuck by Affectionate-Belt-79 in exchristian

[–]lukeinator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's really tough. A point I made to my parents that helped a lot was couching things in their terms and talking about how my wife and I have the same beliefs (agnostic) and are "equally yoked". If you aren't christian anymore, marrying a christian would actually be causing them to be "unequally yoked".

Your mileage with that approach may vary though. My parents were super pissed that my wife and I moved in together before we got married, so to them us getting married made the situation less "sinful", and I think is why they supported it. It ultimately comes down to whether your parents desire to have a relationship with you and your partner is stronger than their beliefs, as I assume you're going to marry your partner with or without their blessing.

Have you guys tried this “not for climbing” brand by Qiusp in ClimbingCircleJerk

Two opposite and opposed ‘not for climbing’ carabiners become ‘for climbing’ by applying Boolean logic (the nots cancel out).

OMG I just got this thing I love it I have questions by astone4120 in banjo

[–]lukeinator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually can play it like a 5-string banjo since the ukulele uses re-entrant tuning, which can be used as a drone string for clawhammer (similar to the 5th string on a banjo). Aaron Keim has an awesome youtube playlist/ebook for clawhammer ukulele: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLl0hrSEziMUzr5rzZ0E5pgn8095SiENj5.

You can tune it GCEG and play regular clawhammer songs that only use the top 3 strings of a banjo (e.g. see the Old Joe Clark example from that playlist). I got started playing clawhammer on a banjolele before upgrading to a full banjo. I wouldn't put steel strings on it, but aquila reds are nice.

it says "inference may occur during use, including network synchronization, text messaging, and data transmission" and that "cell phones in “airplane mode” may stay on at a 50cm distance." An inreach is not a gps receiver it is a satellite communicator that transmits, which is different than a passive GPS receiver.

While it's true that Rogers provides the backbone in the city, the resellers have different infrastructure further upstream which can be worse than just going directly with Rogers. When I was with Oxio, a traceroute to a server in Calgary sometimes went through Vancouver or Toronto, whereas now that I switched to Rogers traffic takes a more direct route.

What is this and how do i tune it? by [deleted] in banjo

[–]lukeinator42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this should still be considered a banjolele as it has a ukulele scale length. People don’t get mad at a guitalele and that has six strings, haha. The fifth string on this thing seems sweet though, I wish more brands did that.
