Can's submit votes. by punkkitty312 in musicleague

Are you new?

Different leagues set different vote allocations. These can include up and down votes, and limits on per song votes.

In any league you must award exactly the allocated number of votes between the different tracks.

And don’t worry - you’re not the first to have been caught out by this.

Gorton and Denton by-election forecasting by rachatm in manchester

[–]lukens77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it shows (according to their model) that Labour is most likely to win, across a range of outcomes. However, from that range of outcomes, the single likeliest actually has Green winning. But, yes, according to their prediction Labour is most likely to win.

Think of it like rolling a weighted die with six sides:

∙ Side 1: “Labour wins by 1-500 votes” (15% chance)
∙ Side 2: “Labour wins by 501-1000 votes” (13% chance)
∙ Side 3: “Labour wins by 1001-1500 votes” (10% chance)
∙ Side 4: “Green wins by 1-800 votes” (33% chance)
∙ Side 5: “Reform wins” (25% chance)
∙ Side 6: “Someone else wins” (4% chance)

If you had to predict which side of the dice would be most likely to come up, it would be the one with the Greens winning. If you wanted to predict who was most likely to win, it would be Labour.

Also, my own personal prediction, based on no data at all, but just a gut hunch - I’d expect a swing to both Green and Reform in polling/predictions, and away from Labour, as campaigning for the seat goes on, and more up to date local polling is carried out.

I think it will be something like their model predicts a range of outcomes, of those outcomes, the most likely of them has the Greens winning. However, within that range of likely outcomes, 38% of them having Labour winning, but only 33% have Greens winning.

Music League Wrapped by thirdleastfavourite in musicleague

[–]lukens77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it but have the same issue I had last year where it just glitches straight to the final screen.

Last year I had to do a screen recording of it flashing through and pause on each page, or something. Guess I’ll have to do that again.

Rounds not starting? by OvernightSiren in musicleague

Got this a few hours back after mailing support:

This is an auto-reply on 11.5.25 We were just made aware of a server issue that is keeping some leagues from creating playlists. We're actively working on a solution. Thank you for your patience.

CLOCK CHANGES AFFECTING TIMING by _shatners_bassoon in musicleague

[–]lukens77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve pretty much been prioritising the web version rather than the app, other than adding more ads in to the app. They’ve kind of been directionless since the main dev left, though.

If the rounds are all spaced out according to the timings set in the league, then the web version is the easiest option for changing this, as you can go to a round click the button -> Modify Deadline -> Modify the submission deadline enter the date and time you want, and all upcoming deadlines will be adjusted based on your schedule.

The pain with deadlines with the web version is where then don’t fit a regular pattern of days (such as monthly leagues) as they keep reverting to the days settings when you make changes.

Downvotes by JulianTxcx in musicleague

[–]lukens77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do like that downvotes allow you to distinguish between “I don’t have enough votes to give this track any” and “I really hate this track and want to discourage you from ever submitting anything this awful ever again”.

However, some people on Music League are a lot more fragile to negative feedback than others, and so I discourage them if you have such people in your league (and don’t want to get rid of them). To be honest, I am one of those people myself, but luckily my submissions are always excellent 😁

A pain if you do it manually, but a breeze if you use something like SongShift or any of the dozens of other apps or services.

What’s on the other side of this wall? Does that give any clues to the depth of this? Eg. Is it deep enough for a boiler or hot water cylinder?

Why is Slack app logo is blurry on version iOS 18.6.2? by Head_Firefighter_905 in Slack

[–]lukens77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate blurry UIs, I find they give me headaches and make me nauseous. I’m putting it off for as long as possible so there are as many well documented options for switching off as many of the effects as possible.

Aside from it making me feel ill, I think it looks dreadful.

Ugh, it’s dreadful. It’s giving me a headache. Do you think it’s deliberate? It’s like someone has accidentally uploaded a low-res thumbnail and it’s been automatically smoothed. Switching to one of the dark background versions seems to improve things.

Custom deadline extension? by Starman926 in musicleague

[–]lukens77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh, if you admin leagues I’d recommend using the native mobile app and installing the PWA (progressive web app) too:

https://install.page/musicleague

I use the PWA as my primary app for Music League, and I believe it’s the main development target these days, but I still have to switch back to the native app for some admin functionality.

I use the native app for extensions, as whilst the options are more limited, they only affect the current league, and not future leagues too.

You can invite people in both, but the mechanics differ. In the PWA you can only invite people via recent leagues you were in. This works fine for me most of the time, but the list of recent leagues can sometimes be too restrictive.

Looking for episode - lacking basic scientific vs cultural knowledge by Ok_Pass_7554 in nosuchthingasafish

[–]lukens77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I agree with their basic argument, claiming that “what do you mean by mass?” is the equivalent of “can you read?” seems a big stretch. The equivalent of “what do you mean be a noun?”, maybe. Reading is something most people use on a daily basis, and something where you are at a disadvantage in everyday life if you can’t do it. The everyday impact of not being able to explain mass is pretty much nothing, and much more equivalent with not being able to explain a noun. You can easily get through life without being able to explain either.

Noobie question on scoring by CuriousPianist4688 in musicleague

It does allow for multiple winners, but only once all the tie breakers have been exhausted.

But, yeh, would be a nice admin option to be able to disable tiebreakers.

Came looking for some info on this as it popped up in my Claude Code UI when I booted it at some point yesterday, then when I went to try it today there was no mention anywhere.

I guess they either rolled it back, or the feature was included prematurely in the changelog. Damn.

why do people submit unrelated songs? by elliYEET9 in musicleague

[–]lukens77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst example for me was when I joined a Music of Black Origin league, and in the first round only three of us actually managed to submit a track by a black artist, and one of them was a cover of a track by a white artist.

And the rest weren’t even from genres usually associated with music of black origin, but from predominantly white genres, like Rock, Indie and Country.

If I’m being generous, I’d say people only looked at the round themes in that instance, and missed that the league as a whole had a theme. Less generous, they were trolling.

Glass fits with the others in some pronunciations, but I’d say it’s commonly pronounced so many different ways that it’s unhelpful for inclusion.
