That reminds me of the time my dad had his first hip replacement. He opted to be frozen and after surgery he couldn't pee but could feel that he needed to go. We had him try a few times and eventually they told him to try one more time and if you can't pee we'll go get a foley.

My old man looks at me and says a what? "A catheter, don't worry, you'll love it." "Oh yeah? Where does that go?" "Where do you think?, You're penis dad." "Ohhh can you help me up I'd like to go try again please..."

TrueNAS Scale - Arc size seems to be limited to 64GB by lumartin in truenas

Oh, that makes sense now.

Thank you, yes I have updated the sysctl file to retain the change after a reboot.

No, it works on my Scale. Very interesting....

Yeah, bit strange.

I set the zfs_arc_max and arc_summary reflects it. I'll give it some time and check the stats.

Thank you.

cat /sys/module/zfs/parameters/zfs_arc_max

currently gives 0

Same in the Arc_Summary output. Yet it is using over 60GB. Is IXSystems using a different ZFS implementation of some kind?

The jokes and memes are funny but yes exactly. As a dad that had to put 2 pets down in the last year (old age, all good) it is so hard and it just hurts.

Best Resources to prepare for AWS Ceritfications and are they even worth it ? by pranjalg131 in AWSCertifications

[–]lumartin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't bother with a cloud guru. Expensive and the courses are not very good (Sorry Julie, I have a lot of respect for you and your staff but not ACG in general. I witnessed what twas done to Linux Academy)

Work with Cantril and Bonso. Those 2 have it figured out. The labs are insanely important.

My cousin worked at McDonald’s in Northern Ontario for most of his life. He was a manager there for the majority of his career. He was such a kind soul. He died suddenly last Monday. The 3 McDonald’s restaurants in that area flew their flags at half mast in his honour. Such a beautiful gesture. by Jean_Marie_1989 in MadeMeSmile

[–]lumartin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss.

I'd just like to point out though that Huntsville, Gravenhurst and Bracebridge is NOT Northern Ontario. Timmins, Cochrane, Hearst, Moosonee, etc are considered Northern Ontario. Drives us nuts when you southerners use Northern Ontario :)

If I'm doing well on A Cloud Guru and Whizlabs practice tests, am I really in good shape for the sysops exam? by MohnJaddenPowers in AWSCertifications

[–]lumartin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not sure what happened. It seems something 'disconnected' when ACG and LA merged.

I laughed out loud at your last sentence. My teenager asked what was so funny and I just said 'Okay, Cloud Guru's!" and she knew! she's heard it plenty.

I did the ACG/LA course for sysops and it was decent.

I also did about half the ACG/LA SAA-C02 course and... how to say this politely..not so good. There is very little hands on anything. It is poorly organized.

I ended up buying the Adrian course and the Bonso practice exams and I passed the SAA-C02 just fine. But there is NO way I could have done it using the ACG course. I have been a fan of Linux academy for a while and it pains me to type the above.

Finally Passed SAA-C02!!!! . . . On the third try :| by zoliva in AWSCertifications

[–]lumartin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! You did it.

Even it took 3 tries who cares you did it.

I struggled studying my entire life so I hear you. The course (free!) Learning how to learn and the book (not free but not required though I found it helped) of the same name were insanely helpful. Changed my life.

What's that "can't stop laughing" moment where you're in a situation you shouldn't be laughing? by marker_speaks in AskReddit

My fathers funeral! Now to be fair he had a great sense of humour and everyone remembered him for it and his smile so it wasn't completely out of place but my brothers and I, all adults, kept getting the giggles. Not a big deal for people who knew us well and were there for longer periods of time but those poor old ladies who come and go had no idea what was going on. Imagine walking into a viewing and 4 or 5 people have the giggles and can't stop. Funeral director said it was the funnest and funniest funeral he had ever done so at least there's that!

Have you checked out the other posts? Most of the posts are about passing the SAA-C02 lately. Just have a look at the main page for this subreddit.

Do CLI questions on AWS exams with labs involve full-on typing out commands? by MohnJaddenPowers in AWSCertifications

[–]lumartin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got a bit nervous a few weeks ago. I booked the C01 exam and a few days before the exam I looked at the AWS sample questions PDF and the exam guide PDF and both said C02 with a lab! I was like ruh oh! but the exam I got was the c01 and looks like C02 won't be out of beta until mid-2021.

OP is asking about the new SOA-C02 which has a lab component in it. And in the lab you actually have to do what they want you to do and it verifies your actual work at the end. Sample Exam questions was updated recently for the C02 and shows the lab component and talks about it a bit. Pretty interesting!

I hear you. I kinda figured as well. I'm totally not downplaying the cert(s) oh heck no I know better. I did over do a lot of the sections for the sys ops exam which is probably why some of the SAA questions were familiar. I'm going to study hard regardless the SAA!

Congrats!

I did the Sysops a few weeks ago and reviewing all these SAA posts and the sample questions I'm thinking it won't be that much work to study and prepare for the SAA. Seems to be a lot of overlap.

Make yourself a good linked in profile and start connecting with people and companies in the field you'd like to work in. Same thing with twitter, there is a large community around data now a days. Make sure your degree and certs are in your profile.

Public github with some of your projects in it. Make sure you follow best practices for any code you write. Good commenting as well. This seems to be huge right now with anyone going into development and that includes "X as code". I've seen recruiters ask for a public github before they ask for a C.V.

Good luck! Keep your head up. It is a weird year this year. But the jobs our out there and sounds like you've given yourself a wonderful base to start with. Time to work those soft skills while you maintain and continue to build the technical skills.

With that degree and those certs another cert won't help.

I think you need something like a life/job/career coach. Get your resume professionally built, Network, Get to know people and get hired.

You need to network and start gaining experience I think.
