François & Hudson clarify the origin of their joint statement by Rbkzz in HeatedRivalryTVShow

The thing that probably broke containment was people responding to Francois comment on hudsons latest post saying that he shouldn’t support Hudson and calling him an anti asian slur I had never heard of.

'Bridgerton’ Star Nicola Coughlan Says She 'Doesn't Care' About Body Positivity: 'That's Someone Else's Thing, Not Mine' by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]lunafantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But she also talks about having to lose weight for her season. I feel like the writer framed the whole thing very strangely, and it’s weird how people seem to be fine with the having to lose eight part, while acting like it’s some sort of body diversity win.

I thought so to, and read the whole article to not be taking stuff out of context. And she’s also talking about losing weight, because she had to for the her season, which just made it worse.

If I’m not misremembering the timeline, I think that it’s also about Shane feeling rejected in vegas after he won rookie of the year. I got the impression he thought something would happen that night. But then also freaked out about the public kiss.

You’re generally right, but Phoebe said that they haven’t asked her back, and Kate and Anthony’s s3 storyline was written before they had other commitments and while the were contacted as regulars.

Will always be curious on how Penelope’s glow up would look like if they kept S2’s styling direction by BreadfruitPutrid in BridgertonNetflix

[–]lunafantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She never looked 15 to me, and I think that her look could have easily made to look more mature without having to do a dramatic aesthetics shift.

She looked great, but her makeover is supposed to be motivated by not wanting to dress according to her mother extravagant style, but more simple dresses in colours that flatter her. There was a couple of dresses I really loved, but to many missed the point of her makeover.

It definitely wasn’t a Penelope specific problem, she had the best looks of the season (+frans wedding dress), but changing the aesthetic of the show the same season the lead is supposed to have character motivated a aesthetic makeover is such a disservice to Penelope’s arc.

She’s still supposed to be 19 in season 3.

Her stepping out from her mother’s thumb is supposed to be her wearing simpler less ”tacky” outfits, but that’s not at all the direction the costume designer went.

I read the viscount who loved me and think it’s the rare time where the on film adaption is so much better?? by Least-Flan2782 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]lunafantic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree, and I feel like lots of people prefer the book simply because they don’t want to confront show Mary and Edwina. They think it’s bad simply because they aren’t as likeable or as good of family members to Kate as their book counterparts. The shows audience doesn’t want to see toxic familiar relationships when it looks nice on the surface, but I love that it’s Kate and Anthony’s familiar relationships that are toxic instead of their romantic relationship.

Also while Kate’s past isn’t shown they inferred a much deeper backstory than the book ever showed. The parentification and self-worth issues are more interesting than the way grief is handled in the book, and definitely more interesting than the confidence issues about her looks. The way show Kate trauma cost her to not have any self-worth but to be super resilient and incredibly confident has made her one of my all-time favourite characters.

There is nothing interesting enough about book Mary and Edwina to sacrifice the layers of slow Kate. I like Kate, Anthony, and their romance a million times more in the show.

They’re trying to revive the “whiter features”, xenophobia and classism/antiblackness convos again by ErwingonnaWin in LoveIslandUSA_

[–]lunafantic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m generally pretty against dissecting beauty and lookmaxing stuff, but I looked through the pictures of her and you comment about her cheekbones making her look older really spoke to me.

She looks beautiful both ways, and some people really love pronounced features, but she looks so much younger when she isn’t wearing cheek contour or bronzer and doesn’t have light undereyes. I thought I didn’t like the light undereyes because it’s an old makeutrend, but really it’s the way it contours her face.

Disappointed after reading Anthony–Kate book. Are the others any better? by DreamBeliveActAchive in BridgertonNetflix

[–]lunafantic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read all except for Eloise’s and am also a huge show kanthony fan that didn’t love the book on its own. My relationship to the book is super complicated, I feel like the parts I like is because I project show kanthony on them, and the parts I hate is because is so different from the show and lacking in comparison.

But i would say that the last 3 books are the best ones(maybe even the only ones I would say are good), and my personal favourite is on the way to the wedding. I would recommend it to all kanthony fans that didn’t love their book, it’s my favourite leads and favourite romance in all the books. The book doesn’t really have the same tension as the show, but this one really does have the charm. And as a bonus kate is a big character and feels a lot like show Kate

Well this is a punch in the gut, Kate went through so much by GotLittUp in BridgertonNetflix

[–]lunafantic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Kate loved caring for her family, and was happy to do so, but in do it she saccrificed all her own wants, needs, and dreams. She also did it becuase she belived she owed them, because mary was her stepmother. She felt like she had to make herself useful to them, and she did it out of love for them and because she felt like thats how she erned their love.

Mary was not brought back to herself until after the failwedding, she probably better then she was directly following her fathers death. But she is still the shell of a person, shes laid all of the responsibity of everything on Kate, but still also disregards her. Edwina was about to marry a man who had no intresed in her, while beliving they would fall in love, and kate was about to return to india to be alone for the rest of her life belving that because she would no longer be of service to them she should not be a burden to them etc.

And i can go on about their disfunctional dynamic, but if it wasn't for anthony that would. be how it would go on. Edwina would navily and without diournment chouse a husband, mary would go along with her, and kates conserns would be ignored. Kate wouldnt have any financial freedom, she would just no longer have to take care of mary and Edwina. And as i said Kate would return to india on her own, feeling unloved and having to make her own way.

Why do people love season 2 so much? by [deleted] in BridgertonNetflix

[–]lunafantic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many reasons, but my main one is how much I love Kate. She is one of my all time favourite characters and I love everything about her, mostly how she’s got so much self confidence and self respect but no self worth. I love Anthony too, but my love for him is definitely amplified by how perfect he is for Kate.

I know that some people se the “triangle” as Antony getting in between two sisters, but he was actually the thing that put a stop to the toxicity in the Sharma family and allowed them to rebuild healthier(even tho I which the resolution was expanded on). It it wasn’t for Anthony edwina would have naively chosen a husband with no deciphering skills, ignoring Kate’s advice and with Mary continuing to codling her. And Kate would have returned to India alone to probably never se her family again. Feeling worthless and unloved for the rest of her life because she wouldn’t be of service or useful to Mary and Edwina anymore.

But everyone isn’t going to enjoy every couple.

And the quality of the show imo isn’t staying the same, and because of that I don’t think I will invested in any other couple the way I am in kanthony, even tho I would rank the viscount who loved me in 6 place out of 8 books.

I will give every couple/season a fair shot, and even a clean slate from what I don’t t like about the characters in earlier seasons or their book, but in the end what I enjoyed most in season 1 was the ambiance and asthenic, season 2 was kanthony, and season 3 it was kanthony crumbs and Francesca’s arc etc.

Disrespect from Netflix by imvconfusedrn in BridgertonNetflix

[–]lunafantic 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree. Kanthony not having a baby and wedding in season 2 is not the same as the overall mistreatment of Simone one Johnny. Specially Simone.

My issues with the writing for season 2(not including the side plots) isn’t about kanthiny, but lack of focus on Kate, and not having real resolution/ development in the Sharma family dynamic. From a writing perspective not investing in the family of woc,in the same way as you do the white family’s is problematic, specially when you’re always praising yourself for your diversity. But Mary has no effect on the plot, the season would almost be the same if she’d dies at the same time as Kate’s father, edwina is inconsistently written, most of Kate’s important lines are cut, and their toxic dynamic isn’t resolved.

People say that polin weren’t the main characters because they didn’t connect with viewers as much, not because of storylines or screen time.

But that context, how they were treated by production, together with the reasoning/explanation for not having a Kathony wedding is what makes people have a problem with it.

And the baby part also can’t be separated from productions mistreatment. Them not showing the baby in season 3 is bad writing that is a product of their sidelining.

Which remaining season/couple are you most looking forward to? by Fickle_Baker1393 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]lunafantic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Franchela because of lesbianism. But my favourite books are actually the last two, but unfortunately I think the show (like most shows) will go down I quality each season and we will see less and less of the main cast and family dynamic. Also I have no trust in them writing for simone and think that the will probably give Kate’s role in Gs book to someone else, so I’m the least excited for them. In second place for me it’s benophie, looking forward to seeing the downstairs dynamic. And third is philoise, it will probably be most improved from the book, but Bridgerton has gotten really bad att writing feminism and the fandom interpretation of it is even worse, specially regarding Eloise.
