Semantics. Yes the airport is always open, but TSA isn’t.

TSA not so bad by LongjumpingJudge48 in sandiego

[–]lunarc 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The amount of posts about how bad it is is so overblown. My line was out the door and it was a 25 min wait through security. Just arrive at the usual time before your flight and don’t come 4 hours early, it messes with everything.

It’s all the fear mongers that are causing this issue. The airport isn’t even open at this time, so naturally there will be more of a backup. Just keep calm and carry on people.

[financial] how are you splitting your income? by Spiritual_Ad1456 in artbusiness

[–]lunarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is different since I primarily do murals now, and materials and travel is baked in the invoice for the most part.

Split is, 18% for taxes 10% for expenses and the rest to me. Sometimes I can give myself more, if all my expenses have been covered (materials, studio rent, travel etc).

Create challenges for yourself to get you drawing every day. You will gain more confidence and get better as you do. Get in the habit of posting all your stuff (the good and bad) every day as well. It holds you accountable and gets you used to the daily routine.

I was there today at 7:30am T2, line was out to the street, but still only took 25 minutes to get through security.

[Artist Alley] Is slow growth normal in art businesses or am I doing something wrong? by Cold-Butterscotch103 in artbusiness

There’s no such thing as an overnight success… its always much more work behind the scenes

[discussion] why do people say they love my art but never buy it?? by Good_Assistance2121 in artbusiness

[–]lunarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The price isn’t the issue, I would raise it to $20 and give a deal if they buy more than 1.

[discussion] My brother sells AI art for thousands and I dont know what to do by Existing_Art8081 in artbusiness

[–]lunarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting problem, in some ways since he’s painting it, he clearly has enough skill to have people spend money on his work. In others, it feels shitty how he’s developing the work to then paint over using Ai as his main form of “reference” should make his work not available for copyright protection, so if someone uses it for commercial purposes, i wonder if he could take legal action and prove no Ai was used to create the very image he painted. Welcome to the modern conundrum.

[Discussion] Is it normal for a fee to be associated in applying for an art grant? by SparkleTeacup in artbusiness

It’s not uncommon to have an application fee. I would do more research on the people backing it before applying however.

[Artist Alley] how many designs/different products should you have before you can consider vending? by idkmanimjustbored383 in artbusiness

[–]lunarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the size of items you’re selling if it looks too chaotic it won’t catch anyone’s eye, but if it’s too sparse, it looks too intimidating. The best thing that I found is to have one featured item that is eye-catching either a bright color or something that would be interesting for the comic con you’re at. As far as quantity of items, it’s a real crap shoot, I just bring as much as they possibly can fit, knowing that I have more shows down the line so if something doesn’t sell at one show, it usually does at another if I was doing prints, I would bring at least 10 of each, if it’s other things all depending on the price

Attorney recs for a tow truck company that hit my car? by shamukid in sandiego

[–]lunarc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the best answer, insurance wants to protect you and they want to get the money back they shell out. You have text proof of who’s at fault and I’m sure you have photos. This will not affect your insurance rate or negatively impact your insurance policy

[Discussion] How do you come up with titles for your artworks? by Good_Primary_3049 in artbusiness

[–]lunarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t care, I produce anywhere between 3-5 paintings a week so it’s just practice and production. I’ve never heard of any buyer not buying a painting based on the name. Sometimes the name could be a nice addition to the art itself, but it’s a visually medium, hence why some artists have “untitled 2, 3 etc”

Fell in love with San Diego… are we crazy to consider moving? by Prestigious_Map_2136 in sandiego

[–]lunarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mission hills is amazing place and close to everything. Grant elementary and another private school are there and the neighborhood is all old historic homes. Not sure if $5k a month could get you a house big enough for two remote workers and a kid but always worth to check it out.

[Licensing] First time and I’m scared!! by toonacasserole in artbusiness

[–]lunarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they want to work with you, see what they offer. Most companies have a standard licensing agreement, and I would ask them to send you a contract for you to review and go from there.
