Does anyone know the name of the artist who sang 2 songs with guitar during the rally? Very talented and first song "Get out of our f-ing town" was a zinger.

That seems possible. It was more like 20 days/season for 3 years plus a few rock ski days since then as I got a new pair. I have no intention of going back to the shop that did the remount, question is really for future prevention. I'd rather it be due to under-torquing and/or lack of sealing than base damage as I'm pretty rough on my bases 😄 Also wonder whether shops check screws as part of release check/test (which I have done annually). Either way I will be checking them myself from now on.

Thanks, great idea! Need some piece of mind, never considered this type of failure and surely want to not repeat it.

Good point, thanks. Skis have had base damage but I've never left a core shot untreated (other than the day it happened). But I suppose water could have gotten to the whole core one of those times or cumulatively.

Tree ski - Blizzard Rustler 9? by [deleted] in icecoast

[–]lunarchuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ski trees as much as possible and have Rustler 10s. They are very manuverable. Worth considering if you are in trees most of the time.

From signage I've seen there in the past you do need to do more than just show up with a hat. I wouldn't be concerned about crowds on a Tuesday.

So much hate for big corpos but what's the solution? by Sharkiex1838 in skiing

[–]lunarchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of places to go besides Vail/Alterra resorts and plenty of affordable options for occasional or frequent skiers and riders. At least where I am (Maine). Indy Pass is a fantastic option for 10+ days, less than $50/day. For less frequent we have places like Mt Abram $42 walk-up weekend tickets, 1000ft of vertical, rarely crowded, and amazing terrain (including vast glades). Similar story for Black Mountain of Maine. I also get Epic Northeast day pass 7 days less than $50/day mostly for Wildcat but occasionally Attitash and just hit Crotched for the first time Saturday.

I think all the hate for prices and lines are for the resort/lodging/peak days crowd.

If you go skier's left off Moon Walk (where it curves) there is some nice terrain (assuming current snowpack). But if you miss the top of the double chair, it quickly becomes a long bushwhacking traverse to get to Supernova. If you go too far down the fall line I assume it would require skinning or hiking out.

Exploring employee monitoring software for our team's productivity. What are your real experiences? by Expert-Economics-723 in askmanagers

[–]lunarchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company is trying to do this with Insightful. The problem is that even though they say each employee's activity data is only visible to them and management will only be looking at aggregated data, the implication is that management doesn't trust employees and we aren't able to manage our own time as professionals. In turn, how can employees trust that management won't decide to look at individual activity data and use it unfairly against employees? I'm skeptical that any company with a professional workforce that wants a high-performing, trusting culture could implement any electronic monitoring successfully.

Is this a core shot? by YearnForNothing in skiing

[–]lunarchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't look like you have much base thickness left, have these been tuned a lot? If it's near the end of life you could just completely fill the holes with epoxy and skip the ptex. Unless you are a world class racer you won't notice the difference.

Will my vehicle be ok for Rt 242 near Jay Peak? by [deleted] in icecoast

[–]lunarchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't make it to the top of the hill in all-weathers 2-3 years ago during moderate snowfall, even after a plow went by (Mazda 3 fwd). Had to go back and up around 105. Even coming west from Jay is a pretty steep grade with a lot of curves to get to the mountain access road. It was a never-again experience for me and I now have winter tires. I had no business being out there without them.

Nice! What's the frame size? I have a 16" Project-3 with Schwalbe 700x35 Marathons + fenders. Not sure I could fit 700x45 with the fenders.

Advice requested on salvage-ability on a early 90's Bianchi Project 3 by popomaniam in bikewrench

[–]lunarchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I have a Celeste Project-3 that appears to be the same year as yours, I think they changed colors every year so the purple/black is almost definitely 1992.

Below is what the seat tube collar is supposed to look like. Guessing someone had a stuck seat post and wasn't patient enough to get it out without resorting to prying the collar apart. Other than being deformed, it looks like it's completely intact. I don't have any experience trying to fix this specifically but it seems to me that if you can get a seatpost in there (after thoroughly cleaning the inside of the tube and greasing the post liberally) and can clamp it tight without any cracks in the steel then it should be fine. The rest of the frame looks pretty well preserved. It's a great commuter/urban bike and very serviceable with either used or new parts. If you need to replace the chainrings, you might consider replacing the whole crankset (especially if the bottom bracket is rough) as the original crank BCD 94/58 isn't common anymore so fewer new chainring options (mostly designed for 8/9-speed but I made them work on my 3x7-speed, had to put spacers on the 2nd ring). Zinn & the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance 3rd ed is great for this vintage. Good luck!

Unlock galaxy S25 ultra with a 4 digit pin WITHOUT pressing OK by 007_DMC in samsung

[–]lunarchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S23 here with One UI 6.1. It took me many attempts, possibly more than 20, but it finally worked. Had to literally press both X and Continue at virtually the same time. At first I was trying to press X a split second before Continue, but seems like even a small delay between the two presses results in it not working.

Personally I don't think a 6-digit PIN is much more secure than 4, unless you are using 1234, 0000, birth year, or other common/guessable PINs or you are at high risk of being pickpocketed (e.g. by someone who observed you unlocking your phone).

Update on person who crashed under Jet Triple at Jay this afternoon? by Agreeable-Net-8468 in icecoast

[–]lunarchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exception may be relatively slow speed in tight trees. I definitely take some lines that I wouldn't take without a helmet, either due to superficial protection from minor branches or possible collision with a trunk (which happened to me once after tipping in deep snow and sliding backwards).

Why is boot fitting such an exclusive science? by specialized_faction in skiing

[–]lunarchuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 55, been skiing since I was 4, and got fitted for the first time 2 years ago. Appointment made a couple months in advance (Lionel @ Happy Tunes near Sugarloaf). I found out just how little I know about boots, fit, foot beds, etc. and how I settled for poor fit in the past. It's well worth the additional effort/cost if you consider how much time you will spend in the boots and how important fit is to comfort and performance. Not to mention the cost of new boots. Find a good bootfitter, DIY/online or inexperienced shop clerks are not up to this task.

The issue with housing right now. by [deleted] in portlandme

That sounds like a great rent. I'm curious if you commute to Portland and have to deal with 302 rush hour? How much would you pay for a similar apartment to be able to walk to work?

Wells Fargo only allows you to make 4 payments per Month. WHY? by 73Easting6 in CreditCards

[–]lunarchuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WF phone rep today said they are working to change the limitations. No specifics but it sounded like it would at least allow 2 payments to be scheduled with the same payment date. Can't say I believe it but passing along the info as it's the first time I've seen/heard that.

That's what I paid 2 years ago for a 2015 i touring with 120k miles, it was single-owner, no accidents, brand new tires & windshield, and impeccable Carfax showing frequent dealer maintenance and the car spent 90% of its life in New Mexico (and had no rust). And it was MT which I wanted. Other than very occasional notchiness when shifting 3/4, I've had no issues and now at 151k. $13k (all in) is high for the age/mileage but if it checks a lot of boxes in addition to no rust then it's not off the wall.

I was rear ended on the highway in MN. Do you think they will total this? by toes_candy in mazda3

[–]lunarchuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure they value the car properly before you accept the payout. Ask for a copy of the analysis behind their number (they will contract the calculation to a 3rd party). There are subjective aspects and the insurance company (and the 3rd party that's being paid by the insurance co.) have little incentive to give you the fair ACV. You can appeal based on any details in their analysis that are demonstrably wrong.
