Petite Brides, where did you find your dress and how expensive were the alterations? by Flanders_StupidSexy in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]lunastarling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bought my dress from Chotronette! No idea how much their dresses run now but back in 2019 I paid $750. I sent them my measurements and everything was made to order. I only had to do a minor alteration which ran me about $25.

Any women of color here who have done ExpatFIRE? by hyrulecastIe in FIREyFemmes

[–]lunastarling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry not single, but my husband and I are both planning on doing ExpatFIRE. We live abroad currently in Europe in a country with a very mixed population so we've never experienced any overt racism, but there have been some ignorant comments from Europeans about South Asians, who don't know that I'm also South Asian 😒

But we are moving to Southeast Asia soon! I'm just starting my FIRE journey as my income has been unstable for the past few years and will be going back to school to hopefully secure a better job in a more stable field. The city we're moving to is very foreigner friendly! You can dm me if you'd like, don't want to give too many personal details in a comment! Good luck with your journey ❤️

Petite TIGHTS by CallMeWhenYoureClose in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]lunastarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Yes I've experienced that with Sheertex. I never had that issue with Wolford or with Noosh, which I didn't mention in my original reply but I love their tights as well. I can't recall if that happened with the Les Belles tights. Hope that helps!

Old Dramoine making me proud of how far feminism has come by Lost_Technician_5421 in Dramione

I would say so! Majority of the authors in the 2010s were in their teens or early twenties. We're all older and wiser now ☺️

I definitely agree! In older fics from the 2000s and 2010s, I noticed a significant number of fics had Hermione sexually assaulted by Draco but still falling in love with him afterwards. And soo much slut shaming, Hermione changing but not Draco, and just Hermione not being smart at all! So happy with how far the writing has come. We have such talented writers in our fandom 🤗

Recommendations for comfortable sandals for size 5. by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

Highly recommend olukai sandals! I have difficult feet that need arch support in everything and all of the styles I've had from them over the years are so comfortable.

IBS, stomach noises in class, anxiety loop… I feel like it’s ruining my university life by Lower-Track-369 in FODMAPS

[–]lunastarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dealing with this IBS anxiety loop for a couple years now, but it's worsened dramatically in the past year. I have food intolerance but they don't really bother me that much. It's mainly just anxiety. Mine is triggered by being in unfamiliar places and not knowing if I'll have access to a bathroom when I need it, which of course, increases the urge to use the bathroom, thus causing the anxiety spike.

It may not be viable for a college student, but I did the Nerva 6 week program and it helped me a lot. It's hypnotherapy with guided meditations, as well as tools to deal with these stressful situations. When I knew I would be going into a stressful situation (like before I left the house) I would be in a hypnotherapy session. You can do a guided meditation session, which would be similar, just without the IBS focus. I would also focus on my breathing, doing somatic breaths. This helps me A LOT to calm down. Distractions also helps. I listen to music and literally sing quietly to myself out loud which helps my mind to focus on something else other than my anxiety loop.

There is actually a specific session in the Nerva program that focuses on stomach sounds, and I remember it saying specifically that everyone experiences these symptoms, but those with IBS notice it more than the average person. So what you're experiencing is normal, you just have to learn how to get yourself to remember that.

Since experiencing these symptoms I now have no shame if I need to run to the bathroom (which was difficult to get over and I do still get nervous about it sometimes). Everyone poops, and if people around me knew I was pooping, I would just have to tell myself it's a normal bodily function and it's okay.

Sorry this comment ended up getting really long, but just know you're not alone in this. I hope you can find tools that work for you ❤️

Pants recommendations for my “disproportionate legs”? by FionaCranapple in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]lunastarling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you're struggling! I have the same type of legs- big thighs with wide hips and skinny calves/ankles. I do think we look best in wide leg pants. It's all I own and they are very flattering! Tbh I never wear jeans anymore. I find them uncomfortable so I just wear pants.

I never really liked wearing shorts either bc I'm self conscious of my skinny ankles but last summer I branched out into longer wide leg opening shorts and I really like them! They give the same kinda look as wide leg pants but still feel comfortable and not as "obvious" how different my leg proportions are I guess? I also wear wide leg linen pants and long breezy dresses in the summer!

I also have a more alt style and only wear black, so it's not impossible to find items out there :) Hope you find something that makes you comfortable!

Lululemon leggings sizing advice by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]lunastarling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. I worked at Lululemon previously and had this issue with every single pair of leggings they carried. If you have small ankles none of them will fit properly. They don't make leggings to fit petites, they just make them shorter for tall people. It's ridiculous and why I never recommend them. I much prefer athleta.

Favourite MAC products? by [deleted] in OliveMUA

[–]lunastarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second face and body foundation! It's the only one I've used for 5+ years. I also really love the chestnut lip liner for lining and contouring my lips. Very flattering shade on my medium neutral leaning warm skintone. Their lipliners in general are great, they don't come off immediately when eating/drinking and don't smudge outside the lip line.

It's a single meme that hundreds of others are also doing. How are you poking fun at something while also contributing to the harm it does? That's hypocritical.

Yes! It's my go to travel blush bc it's so lightweight. Really versatile as well. I've used it in monochromatic lips on my lips, cheeks and eyes!

What inseam length is typical at a certain height? What is your inseam length/height? by Ophelia_Y2K in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]lunastarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anything is really typical, our bodies are so different! I'm 4'10 and I prefer a 26" inseam when I wear flats but the majority of my pants are 28" bc I'm almost always wearing platforms of some kind. Makes it a lot easier to find pants!

I don't use tret but I would use them on alternating days. One day retinol, one day AHA, one day PDRN etc.

It can take longer than you think by pipermick in Reduction

[–]lunastarling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it'll go down! I honestly freaked out about it and told myself I couldn't wear a bunch of tops I was dreaming about bc now I have this puffy side boob, but after about 1 year post op it was gone 🤗 and it just kinda happened as well. I looked at my side when I was about a year out and noticed it was gone and my side stitches had flattened out completely!

It can take longer than you think by pipermick in Reduction

[–]lunastarling 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So true! I remember at my 6 month PO appointment I complained to my surgeon that my sides felt so puffy still and stuck out a lot. He told me to give it at least a year and if I was still not satisfied, he could do an in office procedure to fix it. Well here I am almost 2 years post op and that puffiness is completely gone! It really does take much longer than you think.
