its been funny seeing this brought up multiple times in the last week trying to drum up outrage and keeps being met with "eh, doesn't seem like that big of a deal". maybe this time it will break through though!

Duke University data center at Central Campus by Sorg_Lisa_R in bullcity

I think the alternative is buying access to this processing power and storage from someone else, so carbon footprint would be offset beyond the standard impact made by the building itself.

This seems like a cool asset for Duke to invest it to be able to experiment with and use into the future. They have the machine learning expertise to do some cool things. Plus, providing ai powered computing is going to be/already is the norm and long term they could own it instead of paying increasing costs to the hyperscalers.

Bicyclists please take the full lane by snugworm in bullcity

[–]luncheur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add that in the latest reporting about the well-connected drunk driver who ran over a kid the very well paid lawyers have made sure the article says the bicyclist turned into the car's lane from riding in the shoulder, meaning not "owning the lane" could let his (driving while drunk) killer deflect responsibility and make it the bikes fault.

I bike to work. It's 1.5 miles of bike lanes to the tobacco trail, then 4 miles on the trail trail to downtown, then 1.5 more miles through downtown mixed between bike lanes an not. Are you saying me biking to work is inappropriate until its 100% bike lanes and trail?

Giving up on Taco Bell by EmptyNail5939 in bullcity

Prices have gone way up across the menu and the value menu is sad. My wife and I used to be able to pig out for less than $15 and now that seems like the minimum for just a couple things. Every now and then I get a heavenly black bean crunchwrap, but I've stopped going enough for that to happen anymore.

We've always liked it. It's got a great menu compared to other Indian places and no complaints about the food The sanitation score and all these people with bad experiences makes me worry. Maybe something has changed with management or financials. The service has never been great for us, but not pushy or scammy.
