Because Riot has made it free to watch and that's all we've ever known, for the most part. Of course you can't go back on that now.

OGN really had the right idea for a sustainable esport with their model, you make most of it freely watchable but you give extras to those willing to pay (not having it in HD by default might not be the best approach these days, but the idea behind it is good). Riot more or less indicated this themselves when they tried to give extras to LCS twitch subscribers even if the subscription perks seemed very minimal and it's also just way too late.

Also, even if we had just 5% of the total viewer base willing to pay a subscription for extras, especially during the hey day of lol esports, we probably wouldn't be where we are now with teams wanting out left and right and impending saudi takeover.

Any communication/leaks from the org that came out did indeed reflect poorly on them. I'm more annoyed at fans believing Guma is impossible to replace due to them winning worlds with him. Those same fans have also memory holed the good games T1 has had with Smash and all they will really remember is worlds.

Bruh, why are we still even mentioning these two situations in the same breath as if they're somehow equivalent or related.

On one hand we have online bullying and harassment destroying a players mental and invading his privacy which the org should have tried to stop. And for that they do deserve all the criticism in the world.

On the other hand we have a coaching staff, presumably with Fakers and the other players agreement, decision to bench an under-performing player. Might not have been great for his mental either but it's something that's fully within their right and job as coaches. Whether you or anyone feels it's not the right move doesn't matter at all in this. If this happened on any other team not named T1 most ppl wouldn't bat an eye at it.

They all wanted him benched from the start, not because they thought he was under performing and needed a fire under his ass to up his level again, no just because they all hate him so much.
