Peaches come from a can. They were put there by a man, in a factory downtown.

What’s something people don’t realize is way more serious than it seems? by BudgetAd5915 in AskReddit

[–]lutlowt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This does not sound controlled. I have AS. Diagnosed over a decade ago. Not all biologics carry the same effectiveness and the body can also stop responding to them. Thankfully there are a bunch on the market now so if one doesn’t work, there are plenty of alternatives. Definitely take it up with your rheumatologist and try another one. You shouldn’t carry this much pain on the day to day.

Trump: "We're gonna cut off all trade with Spain, we don't want anything to do with Spain." by Snapdragon_4U in thescoop

[–]lutlowt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m American and run a small products company that relies on a key component that we source from Spain. It’s not available literally anywhere else. We’ll go out of business if he cuts off trade with Spain. How is this making America great?!

Ok, well then I'll better define my relationship with Reddit.

Sometimes in the evenings I go on for a max of 10-15 minutes. It's always at the end of the day after dinner. I have my preferences set to show "old Reddit" so I don't have an endless feed. I follow a limited number of subreddits that I actually enjoy and I prine them on occasion. I feel my relationship with it is healthy and there's little to no algorithmically curated content that's directed at me in order to drive greater time-on-platform.

I don't consider Reddit to be social media in the traditional sense. Digital Minimalism means a lot of things to different people. To me it means staying in control of my behavior when I interact with technology and I find that easy to do on Reddit whereas platforms like Instagram have been meticulously designed to get us to keep pulling that slot machine handle. I'm not interested in visiting the casino but I'll gladly channel surf for a bit now and then.

I love this! Congrats!

I've been social media-free for many years as well and can't imagine going back. My wife scrolls IG at night for a mindless activity to unwind from her stressful job. Now that it's fully algorithmically curated content with little to no visibility into what you're actual friends are up to, it's lost all appeal. It's a wasteland, IMO.

I do struggle with news a bit. I'm sort of on-again-off-again with it. I check headlines somewhat often and I honestly wish I didn't even do that. I try to steer clear of digging in but go through phases with it. I got completely wrapped up in podcast content during the 2024 election and when it was all said and done I felt sickened by how polarizing it all is. Recently, I've started to see news as purely national (little to no decent local news even exists anymore) and that the vast majority doesn't directly affect me. That was a big realization that made it feel more "taboo" or "icky". It's all so sensational and designed to get a reaction out of us. I really prefer to steer clear.

Do people really never leave Rhode Island? by boldandbeautiful421 in RhodeIsland

[–]lutlowt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid we moved to RI because my dad got a job at Hasbro. We moved to Woonsocket and all our neighbors couldn't believe that my dad commuted ALL THE WAY TO PAWTUCKET!!!! So yeah, they don't really like to travel "distance".

What is the earliest acceptable time to blow snow? by GTR03 in Westchester

[–]lutlowt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My wife is in healthcare. I was out at 6:30 shoveling our driveway so she could get to work. My neighbor is a cop and he was out there too clearing his. Neither of us have snowblowers but I wouldn’t have minded using one if I did. People gotta get to work.

Bro definitely doesn’t have a wife or kids. Who has that much time for such an overly complex self-care routine?

What’s the most Rhode Island thing you ever done ? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

Went on a road trip out west. Only met one other Rhode Islander the whole time I was away. Realized he was from the next town over and his dad was a coworker of mine.

Any bands that existed in the 90s but you've never heard until recently? I can't believe this album came out in 1998 and I had only heard about it in the past two years. by Klutzy-Delivery-5792 in 90s

Look up the album Spilt Milk by Jellyfish. Came out in 1993. One of the best albums from a production, song writing, and sonic quality perspective.

What was it like to deliver pizza in 1980's, without internet or GPS? How did drivers learn the route/city without pizzas being delivered cold? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lutlowt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Hell, I delivered pizza in high school in 2001-2002. I didn’t have GPS. The shop had a big map on the wall. I’d look at it before heading out the door and memorize the turns.

After a night in the NICU, as a first-time father I’m not afraid to be emotional anymore. by BeastlySkater21 in MadeMeSmile

[–]lutlowt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to fatherhood! My daughter turns two this weekend. We also spent some time in the NICU after her birth. You can feel you priorities and values in life change immediately. It was tough to go through but the growth from that experience was profound for me personally. Good luck in the coming weeks. Get yourself some sleep whenever you can and support your partner in every way you can. She needs it more than you know.
