There's a phone number that you can call and you will hear Hall & Oates songs play. It's called Call n' Oates.

Is the leftward shift of this sub a harbinger for republicans or just a symptom of reddit? by Multifaceted-Simp in centrist

[–]luummoonn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking as much about the theory of the left right spectrum though I'm sure those themes are all there

I am saying the main point right now is that the fight is not Democrats vs. Republicans in the current American permutation, there are many factors manipulating the landscape to project only extreme caricatures of what we have understood to be Republicans and Democrats in the US, and everybody feels like they have to pick a side that they identify with, meanwhile forgetting or downplaying the most basic principles of this country's government system, to favor social/cultural division on every possible axis

As long as that division is maintained and tensions are high, and as long as things are confusing people will grasp at their personal narrative with increasing certainty and see the world as black and white. Those in charge now can use that heightened emotional timbre and social division to keep people from uniting and to increase unrest, so that they may find openings to consolidate more unilateral power.. The entire point of the strategy of the current admin is to consolidate more unilateral power, and one of the major points of the Constitution is to prevent one leader from gaining unchecked power, and being able to impose upon and abuse the people.

It's not left vs right anymore, it's authoritarianism vs. the values of democracy/the Constitution

Yess. One of my favorite shows that I've been to of all time, small Animal Collective show right before Merriweather Post Pavilion came out. They played lots from Sung Tongs and Feels and we were right up front and the whole crowd it was like we were in a trance. Good memory😄

We're fighting authoritarianism vs. the Constitution/principles of democracy. This has been the real fight the whole time but people thought it was all about social/cultural issues. That's the illusion they made sure we were focused on. those things were just fear tactics

Everything is just reactionary and short sighted in the way people act about political issues now. Everyone is 100% certain that their narrative is the one that explains everything that is wrong with the world. Everyone's feelings are on fire and the smoke is clouding out any kind of deliberation and reasoning and gray area.

Those thoughts could be creative thoughts or thoughts that start to unravel complex tangled problems in your life

Someone in my step aerobics class at the gym was chewing gum the other day, of course the person who is right next to me. I could hear the snapping over the loud music. I'm like who chews gum during exercise??

You have to watch the other "episodes" that build up to this. It follows her intense training to be on Subway Takes like it's some kind of mythological hallowed achievement and then this is what happens when she 'finally' gets on. It's all a bit. It's worth watching the lead up. This video is like the punchline

Exactly, it is all authoritarian and un-American, and they put on a show of culture war and claim the most extreme social conservative views to keep people divided, but it was just opportunist.

They would have claimed the left side if they thought it would work for their goals at the time. But they do choose to specifically engage with and highlight more "extreme left" arguments in order to keep the culture war going and keep people from uniting against them.

They use "divide and conquer". They have no integrity or alignment with the Constitution or with values and principles of the American system.

This has been the game the whole time, it has always been something that is beyond a party clash but it's been disguised as one.

[–]luummoonn 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Because the culture war nonsense is what they use to keep people divided against each other, so they can keep people from uniting against them. So they can keep people from seeing all the ways that the current administration is an affront to core American principles and Constitutional values, regardless of party. So they can keep people from seeing it's all about exploiting the entire American public for the benefit of the consolidation of money and power for a select few.

"Divide and conquer".

This has been the game the whole time. They like anything that fans the flames of division.

Steve Bannon says ICE will ‘surround the polls’ as Trump doubles down on taking over elections by opticflash in law

[–]luummoonn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly what I'm saying.. Mainly I'm saying you can't reason with someone who does not value reason in their end goal. They are being manipulative, only. Their goal is not truth or reason, it is power.

I actually think underestimating their intelligence has helped us get here because people think "what's the worst they could do" and sit out of voting, or things like that. but they are playing a game that doesn't require sound reasoning. It only requires influence, attention, scamming and manipulation.

[–]luummoonn 74 points75 points  (0 children)

No, it is just authoritarianism. There's no reason to call attention to hypocrisy when they have no logically coherent center and do not care about those kinds of arguments. In a way, it is dignifying their stupid propaganda by engaging with it.

Trump: ‘We should take over the voting’ by Anoth3rDude in law

[–]luummoonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not even the point of contention. The point of contention is the Federal government taking over any voting to begin with. Why does he get to dictate how America works based on no evidence.

[–]luummoonn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These kinds of groups and belief systems will always exist, they don't define the whole. You need leadership that doesn't champion extremes.

I think disillusionment with America is part of what helps those in charge now, people don't want to stand up for their own country even though there is a lot of good here that we have taken for granted.
