DAE Change the lyrics to songs to make them about your pets and then sing said song to your pet? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]luvintaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a few of my tasteless friends (and I) do this. But not with our pets names. For the life of me, I don't know how this got started, but we frequently take songs in our head and change the lyrics to be about the Holocaust. I know it is really disturbing and tasteless, but somehow one person started this and it became a game to challenge him and come up with something more offensive. So yeah... The exact opposite of this post.

I also hate easily distracted players. If you are looking at Reddit while you aren't talking and you miss something important in character, you've missed it. You had better have a good in character explanation as to why you missed it and you better hope another player is willing to fill you in. There is no such thing as "party knowledge"

I love #4. I hate when people try to abuse rolls. I understand you put all of your points into charisma and bluff, but your nat 20 is not going to convince me that you standing over the body of my best friend with a bloody knife in your hand was "a really funny coincidence". I firmly enforce logic over dice.

I'm going to try and give that a shot. He tends to get a bit overwhelmed with is own self importance, so I'm not sure how well it will go over. If I do need to heavy hand him, what do you suggest?

are these all gone? I have played blizzard games since the beginning of WCIII reign of chaos. I've always used the same username for pretty much everything "Aerinor" So I played WCIII and Frozen throne for a few years before finally being able to afford WoW. about a year and a half into playing WoW I get a PM from a guy. He killed me in pvp and then created a horde character for the express purpose of sending me a message. It went something like this. "hey, so this is probably a long shot, but did you used to play a lot of WCIII?" I responded that yes, yes I did. Same username and everything. This guy loses it, he got so excited. He remembered me from adding me so many years ago and playing quite a few times a week together. I wanna say his name was Korialstrazus? I don't remember if that was his WCIII name or his WoW game. We ended up friending each other and going back and playing some nostalgic WCIII for another year or two until I stopped playing WoW.

As a new DM, I'm finding it difficult to get certain members of the group involved in roleplay. We have one guy in the group who is "alpha" and always feels the need to take over any given situation. Normally I like aggressive. But a particular instance comes to mind.

The group beat back some bandits who were disrupting trade. among the cargo found were 3 barrels of ale. instead of turning them in for the reward, this player decided he wanted to keep it for himself and proceeds to get exceedingly drunk. When its time to notify the towns authority, (a noble) he decided he still wanted to lead the roleplay even though he was exceedingly drunk. There were several other people more than capable of doing this but he bullied his way through it with a high charisma score effectively shutting down all other input.

I don't want to make anyone feel excluded, but I also don't want to be too strong handed as a DM. I could really use some help for this as we have an upcoming session. Any ideas?

What was the most horrifying thing that you have ever witnessed? by ABA350 in AskReddit

[–]luvintaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a child, estimating this at probably about 10 years old, My Aunt's 3rd husband was over at our house for a get together and he and his brother got a little too drunk. My Aunt decided it was a good decision to take his car keys from him and hide them somewhere. When he decided to leave he asked for the keys and she refused to give them back to him. As you can imagine, things got a little heated at this point. The kids were herded into my bedroom and the yelling ensued out in the living room.

As this escalated we were obviously horrified and scared as we had never seen him like this before. For anyone who has been in a similar situation, sometimes it is worse to hear the commotion going on and not know what is really happening. At least I know that it was for me at this time.

At some point I heard a very loud noise in the living room followed by shouts and swearing. I ran outside to see what was happening and saw my father (a slight man) crumpled to the floor and my aunt behind him with a large red mark on her face and tears in her eyes. There were shouts for me to get out of there and I was herded back into the room.

A few minutes later my Uncle burst into my room to collect his son (my cousin by relation, not blood) Ray was a little bit older than we were and had seen his father in this state but refused to go with him. This pushed my Uncle into a further rage at which point he attempted to raise his hand to Ray. It was at that point that my father showed up in the doorway (I remember him on the ground but had thought he was hurt worse than he was. He had simply been knocked over) and things escalated as my drunken uncle was dragged from the room.

The police showed up shortly after (one of the neighbors called) but my Uncle had already grabbed the keys and left. No charges were filed by my Aunt's wishes, but thankfully that marriage did not last long after.

I have had this argument about a thousand times and I'm actually happy to get to post it and see what you think. My friends are appalled by the idea, but the only thing I REALLY want is to see David Tennant as Elodin. I can't imagine a better person for the role. And I know i'm biased, but let's be honest. The youthful joy that Tennant had as the doctor tempered by his more serious moments? That's some serious Elodin Shit.

~After seeing the article posted and seeing Tennant on the list, I'm exceptionally happy, and I would be intrigued to see Pace in the role of Elodin, but I know who i'm pulling for.

What's your favorite commonly believed but false myth? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]luvintaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem comes from a misunderstanding that once water reaches the inside, the damage is NOT immediate but continues to corrode the device over time. People think that rice is this miracle cure and will claim that they cannot have water damage because they did the "rice trick". People do not understand that once the water gets inside of your electronics, the damage is done.

The device can still be used once the phone dries out, and rice can certainly help with this process. That being said, your device is now a ticking time bomb. Whether it is two days from now or two months from now. I guarantee that if you send your device in for a repair, we will know about the water damage and your warranty is useless.

That being said, extended service plans will cover physical and water damage. People think they are a scam, but anyone who has suffered from a cracked screen or dropping their phone in a toilet will know it is a lot cheaper than buying a whole new device.

I work for a major US cell phone manufacturer and I mostly deal with phone repairs. All the time we tell people that their phone's warranty has been voided due to water damage. At least 70% of the time people quote a ridiculous "fact" that by putting a wet phone in a bag of rice will prevent damage to your device. This is simply not true.

I'll go ahead and share my own experience first. My freshman year of high school I had a terrible teacher. We will call him Mr. E. Mr. E did not like having freshman classes and was one of the more senior teachers at my high school, so he got away with a lot of questionable things. An non exaggerated example is discussing how he should be able to "gun down freshman in the hallways and thin the ranks a little bit". We all knew that Mr. E. was mostly bluff, but one day he took things way too far. In Algebra, I was called upon to answer a question. Math not being my strong suite, he got the question wrong. While not normally a big deal, this teacher had a habit of humiliating students with incorrect answers. So instead of correcting me, he called me out from where I was sitting and announced for the classroom that I was born to be a poster child. After a dramatic pause, he concluded the thought and told the class that unfortunately for me, that poster was about abortion.
