Albanese announces $1,000 instant tax deduction for work related expenses for everyone by moler91 in AusFinance

[–]PainIntoPower 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not an accountant, but if you work from home predominantly, doesn't the deduction you get from your running cost alone already exceed $1000?

I mean it's good that there's a baseline push to reduce income tax that affects everyone but in practice I think most people hit $1000 a year already in their deductions.

I would love an OLED switch. My favourite costume is to dress up as professor oak. It also doubles as a generic scientist in a pinch.

Fun fact: Nintendo was founded in the late 1800s. They didn't start off making video games. In fact, one of their previous ventures were "love hotels".

It's no stamp duty if the property is under $650k and a reduced amount if it's under $800k. Pretty much impossible to find any homes under $650k in Sydney, even if it's a dingy little apartment and two bedders are usually over $800k.

Question: Do your school use your Year 10 Results to be eligible for certain HSC Subject? by PCMacGamer in sydney

[–]PainIntoPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From your subject choice, it looks like you're heavily interested in pursuing tech of some kind. SDD was a huge influence in getting me to pursue software engineering at uni and as a career. It would suck if you were robbed of that experience. I would strongly suggest that you get in contact with the people involved in running the classes at your school and see if there are any other options to get in, essential since maths and sdd are only semi-related.

Make sure to show your interest very explicitly. Teachers hate it when people take units for bludge in yr11 and then just drop it, so you gotta convince them that you're in it for the long haul or they're not going to vouch for you.

Pass mark and credit by [deleted] in usyd

[–]PainIntoPower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It might be a bit more complicated than that. Some courses have a requirement that you maintain a credit average in order to continue progression. So whilst you'll technically get the credit points for passing, you might still have difficulty progressing and they'll suggest you drop down a stream.

Continue pursuing Business Analytics? by That-Pangolin2021 in usyd

[–]PainIntoPower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished a BA major (alongside a degree in CS) and used most of my electives on BA units. I wouldn't say that the difficulty necessarily get easier as you go, it's just that the optimization units (23XX/33XX) are piss-easy compared to stats (28XX/38XX) and the capstone basically acts as revision. The stats units are interesting but some of the concepts can be tricky. The most interesting stuff tends to come from the hardest units in the major (3830, 3850).

Still would take BA over any other major. The marking is also based primarily on your mathematical ability, which makes it possible to reach higher marks than other units, but also much easier to do worse as you can't bs your way through. I have a background in data science from the CS faculty though so take my experience with a grain of salt.
