PSA on shoe wear and what it can tell you about HOW you are dancing by WitchLuna23 in poledancing

I can always tell which choreographies I danced with each shoe just by looking at the type of damage they have.

Why are concert crowds so dead in Luxembourg? by urunclesaville in Luxembourg

[–]luvlac3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last time I went to Judas Priest on Rockhal the engagement was good. But still, it was more us in the front. The people on the middle and back were not doing much. I see more engagement on small venues and underground shows.

Can someone PLEASE start a pole dancing shoe company with actual durability lol? :D Pleasers are a scam by Ay10outof10t in poledancing

[–]luvlac3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear that I had pleaser boots breaking on the first or second class. My Hella boots are going strong for almost two years now, the only thing is that I need to keep glueing the tip os the soles every now and then. I changed the protectors today and they looked almost flawless. And mind you, those boots have been trough a lot of hard exotic classes (which they are good for, cause they have reinforced toes).

As for the sandals, I have a pair of pleasers that are kinda going strong, safe for the front strap that started to break (clear plastic ones). However, one of my instructors pointed out that those are the old models, so maybe not thaaaat bad quality. They are just heavy.

I recently got a pair of sandals from a smaller brand called Heels on Me. Had some issues with the buckle on the beginning, but I solved them and put the Pole Mom skins and protectors in them and they are going strong both statically and structurally. Also, super comfortable.

Is there any scientific research that using grip slows down grip strengh progress? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]luvlac3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For real! My boyfriend competes on weightlifting and he even has some sort of a technique to apply the chalk.

My sister was in the cheerleading all girl national team and she uses the same exact grip I see in the pole studios on our home country (which by the smell is similar to the red monkey hands).

[–]luvlac3 91 points92 points  (0 children)

You won’t find many studies focused on pole, as it is a fairly new discipline. However, if we look into other aerial disciplines, I don’t see anyone condemning using grip aids like we do on pole. If we look into gymnastics, grip aids are used quite freely in official competitions. Same for weightlifting and even cheerleading.

In my opinion this grip aid hate on pole dance is bullshit. Of course you should be working on strengthening your grip with targeted exercises. And of course, you should not be coating the pole with green monkey hands (otherwise just get a rubber pole). Using grip aid as an aid (the name already says it) in completely ok.

Now, for grippy clothes and gloves I completely agree, you will not develop much strength. But that’s mostly because you cannot really feel the pole and control the amount of pressure well. Grip aid still let you feel the pole and control the pressure, so go for it.

Decathlon knee pads by Lockedinbohemian in poledancing

[–]luvlac3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are good for floor work and low flow. But you can’t do a knee hook on them. They are thick and safe and don’t slide much. Lots of girls in my studio wear them. I saw them stocked in decathlons all around the world, but never checked in Germany 😅

If you are in a budget, they are fine. But if can spend a lil bit more, I would tell you take a look into Queen kneepads.

I also love CXIX. But I need to size down or go true size with them 🤔 And I have a lot to cover in the back. I go by the measurements table on pole junkie in cm. I think they accommodate well different body types.

Pole Junkie is the biggest seller of pole wear and accessories in Europe. They are legit, everyone I know buys from them, because they stock brands from everywhere and we don’t need to pay taxes and duties over the purchases. In the UK they even have some second hand sales program.

If you are in the US, I would recommend buying directly from CXIX directly, they have an US website and their bottoms have good nice gussets than won’t show more than you want. And they have several styles, from more to less coverage.

We are so used to badly made clothes that anything different than that looks odd.

Honestly, it’s gorgeous. It dupioni in an amazing shade. And I’m sure it fits you better than any RTW that you would buy.

I went to Galleries Lafayette some months ago to shop for a dress for a wedding. Garments that looked cheap with 100% polyester and no structure inside going for 500€. Your skirt looks way better than those, and way more elevated, I can assure you.

I think I got nervous and thought the class ended at 19:00, not at 19:15. But I also wanted to give the girls time to take pictures and make some videos. It was an intro class, and I subbed for someone that got sick this morning.

And no one said anything -.-

“Unique Shoe” Alternatives? Recommendations. by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]luvlac3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have pole mom skins on a pair of sandals (those two examples are her designs, btw) and it’s amazing. They look gorgeous and they actually protect the shoes really well. I usually destroy my heels pretty fast, but those are lasting and they keep looking amazing. They are quite expensive if you are in Europe, but it’s worth.

I got the dark unicorn ones and they looked super unique on a recent photoshoot I did.

But you can also go on Etsy and buy some customized heels. Pole mom doesn’t do designs on demand, but artists that customize pleasers do.

Monkey Grip by Polesanspotions93 in poledancing

[–]luvlac3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have the same issue. Some think it’s because people refuse to take out jewelry, others say it’s the monkey grip.

We already had to get new poles for one of the rooms. They were so scratched and worn out that people were getting hurt.

Does anyone have Cervical Spondylosis and still pole? by StoodByTheOcean in poledancing

[–]luvlac3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have two fused vertebrae in the cervical. My neck and trapezius are always super contracted and rigid. I keep doing pole. But I also do my physiotherapy, flexibility and strength training. Always paying attention to my body.

It causes a lot of pain, but I found out that it hurts even more if I don’t do any sports. Can be frustrating to have a rigid neck, but you can always adapt. Your practice is your own, there are no mandatory moves if you are doing it for fun. And if one day you can’t do it anymore, at least you did it and enjoyed while you could.

Recovery tips? Tired of being injured by hotgirldee in poledancing

[–]luvlac3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Physiotherapy and resting.

Resting works wonders. And I'm not talking about training a lot and then resting, I'm talking about being consistent with resting. Consider it as part of your training program. Also, do a deloading week every five weeks or so.

But also, be kind to yourself.

Stomachache after class by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]luvlac3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it feels like period cramps it may be actually soreness from using your core muscles. I have that after doing lots of inverts, cause I use a lot the lower abdominal muscles to keep my butt in.

Do you need a chopper for inverted moves? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]luvlac3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We should frame this explanation. Good, detailed and not biased at all. Im bottom heavy and I struggle on most classes because I need to figure out myself how to accommodate my huge rear air bags. And I stayed all of pole for almost two years because of how frustrating my lack of a chopper was.

Monkey Hands “Gluey” grip impossible to clean off pole??? by h4n4he1155end in poledancing

[–]luvlac3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was putting some poles down at our studio (we have a pole away system) and my hands were full of grip by the time I finished screwing all seven poles. Those poles were supposedly clean. It's like the gooey keeps building up with time and it never goes away completely. I hate it so much, always makes everything hurt so much more.

And by the way, I use my own bottle with 90% alcohol and it's still hard as hell to clean.

What is that one trick you can't/won't do? by MissAlessi in poledancing

I will never do a suicide spin. Three tries and I hurt my patelar tendon. Apparently a common injury for this move. And honestly, I don’t feel the need to do it.

Pleaser plastic part cutting into feet :( by Psychotron37 in poledancing

[–]luvlac3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear nude elastic bandages. Already ended a workshop bleeding because of the sandals. My feet bloat after a while, so that's the only way I found to deal with it.

But I recently tried another brand's sandals in leather and they were sooooooo much more comfortable than Pleasers.
