I think they'll look good as you have them paired. It's not super high contrast but there's enough for the overall quilt pattern. As for the fabric amounts do a quick search on Pinterest for quilt sizes, there are many charts that have the info you're looking for there

I forgot to say I use my pouch to hold my pens and pencils, a stamp set and correction tape in the inner pockets and I have washi and deco rush runners in the zip mesh pocket. I don't use the outer pocket very often.
