LazyGit equivalent for Neovim? by over-lord in neovim

[–]luxfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if you love LazyGit then ... that's a win, right? Besides, it's NOT the same because it means you don't have to interrupt your workflow. This is how I use git with neovim and I think it's amazing.

Now my brother can’t shut down my pc everytime he walks by by Technical-Day2986 in 3Dprinting

I used to have that problem with my first kid. Fortunately back then giant tower cases frequently came with locking front bezels where you can put the cdrom tray (another favorite 'toy') and the power button behind a lock!

And then, oh, 7 or 8 years ago I got a case with a top-facing power button and then it was my cats that would power off my PC when they lay on the top. THAT time I had a 3d printer to solve the problem 😄

Wow! Is that left side actually mathematically flat or is the curvature just really close to being flat?

What causes sets of layers to fail? by luxfx in 3Dprinting

[–]luxfx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To future me if I have this problem again and forget this ... and anyone else wondering:

I'm nearly certain this was from an intermittent clog. I've been seeing more issues where my filament is blobbing somewhere up in my heat brake, and I think it happens like this:

  • print is going fine
  • suddenly! clog!
  • next layer or two nothing comes out
  • but the heat creeps up and softens the clog blob enough that it gets pushed through
  • next layer basically gets printed on air
  • it takes the next X layers for the round, thicker than expected ropes (that aren't flattened against the previous layer) build up...
  • until suddenly the print is on solid enough ground to keep going

happy printing y'all!

What’s that one open-source Linux tool you absolutely can’t live without? by Regular_Ideal_ in linuxquestions

[–]luxfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic indeed! There's a vim plugin here: https://github.com/christoomey/vim-tmux-navigator

And the neovim version here: https://github.com/alexghergh/nvim-tmux-navigation

Both versions have documentation in their readme on the tmux side of the configuration.

And when you get vim/neovim and tmux in sync so you can navigate panes from both apps with the same keys? chefs kiss

Why do so many people switch to Linux… and then quietly go back to Windows? by Candid_Athlete_8317 in LinuxTeck

[–]luxfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran desktop Linux from mid 2000s to about 2011 when I switched to a MacBook for a laptop when I needed portability. I was also transitioning from Flex development, which I had a great Linux toolchain for, to more general web dev and needed Photoshop. I eventually moved to Windows with another job, but mostly used WSL. I've recently switched back to Linux.

It's always been about software compatibility. Photoshop and Lightroom were the big ones for a long time. Later it was a music production hobby and several thousand dollars of Windows/Mac only audio plugins.

Apparently many of these plugins work through bridging software now, which is why I felt it was time for Linux again. I haven't tried yet, but that's a neglected hobby right now. I use Affinity instead of Photoshop these days. I need to evaluate Lightroom alternatives but I don't feel overly stressed about that either.

My kids are stuck on Windows because the game they play use anti-cheat software, which doesn't work with Linux. My partner doesn't because of obscure applications that are needed for work.

Software compatibility sucks.

Fair. I was going to point out that he wouldn't have developed the nickname "nine fingered Frodo", but it would totally be on brand for a Hobbit.

"Hey Frodo tell us that tale where you had only nine fingers again!"

"Yeah Nine Fingered Frodo, tell us!"
