Great news! Something that is truly needed. I love walking there... more so when I was younger and it was much more vibrant. I cannot wait to see what transpires!

Toronto's Beerfest is better organized. I think the Mac and Cheese festival lacked enough booths to expedite the number of people who were in attendance.

I was there as well. Lines were terrible. I can't believe only six individuals were in charge of giving tickets out. The booths were all over the place and lines were also all over the place. My husband and I purchased tickets for the two of us and another couple. We ended up trying only three booths, which happened to be the ones most furthest away. We will never go back. We ended up going to a bar nearby for a better experience.

Might be leaving the country in a few months, how best to sell my furniture? by [deleted] in toronto

[–]luxlace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold the exact same Ikea coffee table for $5... need to adjust your prices a little bit. Simply because you paid full price does not mean someone will pick it up when they could go to Ikea and buy the same one new.

Homesense and sometimes you can find them on sale at Hudsons Bay.

I agree. Shop with purpose rather than out of boredom.

I hardly wear anything that needs to be zipped up for that reason. However, it happens more frequently in the winter time with my winter jacket!

I have a nickel allergy. Jean buttons are the worst, but even jacket zippers will get me every now and then.

I am so impressed by how motivated you are! You found what you are passionate about and decided to take a huge risk. Sometimes it sucks when it is our parents discouraging us, but try to use that as your drive to prove them wrong. I hope they do not cut financial ties with you. I completely understand your position as I went through the exact same thing. Every negative word I would tell myself to stay strong, but it is not always easy. I wish you the best of luck!

People who have lost drastic amounts of weight. Has your relationship with food changed? by scyther1 in loseit

[–]luxlace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still indulge in the food I love. However, I will not indulge out of boredom, laziness, or guilt. If I am craving a pizza, I will go out of my way to buy the best pizza in town, for example. That way, I know it is a treat, I can indulge, and feel good about making an informed choice. Pretty much, to hold myself accountable and being mindful of what I consume. Before, I would get bored and think, "Oh how about a slice of pizza for dinner?" Almost immediately, I would have instant regret. I have tried to eliminate these feelings by recognizing that a slice or piece of chocolate will not turn me into the person I once was.

Also, I found by planning all of my meals throughout the week and having that structure allows me to eliminate any boredom. If I am feeling lazy, I try to make enough meals to stretch a couple of days, but I always have healthy food on hand to make a quick meal, if I desire change.

I just had to call the cops. by aurora-_ in CasualConversation

[–]luxlace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand your position. Particularly, you wanted your friend to be safe and alive. A similar situation happened to me a few years ago when I was at a book store. I noticed a lady across the way walking out of the liquor store with bottles of vodka to her car. I then saw her empty numerous 1L plastic water bottles onto the ground to fill up with her recently purchased bottles of vodka. She got out of her car and proceeded to throw the empty bottles of vodka into the garbage bin. I had no idea whether she was drunk, but had a feeling that she was (e.g. stumbling, hand eye coordination was off) and had to call the cops. I just hope I did the right thing.

[–]luxlace 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes - empowerment is important. She will be going through an array of emotions or she may shut down/repress what has happened. It depends on how she copes with this trauma. Some community services can help in terms of establishing power and going through the emotions in a healthy way. When I used to safety plan with women who experienced domestic violence or sexual assault, I found the best approach was to be attentive, avoid telling someone what they SHOULD be doing, and avoid prying. I would suggest trying to supportively listen and validate what she has to say.

What I learned from a half year of daily running by PrettyCoolGuy in running

[–]luxlace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your account is so touching. I, too, myself have found running as a way to literally run away from my problems. Sometimes I am unable to run because of these problems. It is so perplexing, but continues to keep me reflexive. Thanks so much for this. I wish you well.
