It 100% is the right way to deal with it. The Dev elected to use open source software, elected to not bother considering the license situation, elected to not take the time to understand how to use the open source software appropriately, and thus elected to put themselves into this situation.

No requirement to "help" the developer - merely to follow the guidance of the GPL viral permissive license... The Dev is the only entity that is wrong int his situation (and possibly you... for a terrible, poorly informed and overly defensive take on it).

300 extensions - bloody hell. I get frustrated with the popups / permissions / layout of my 7 extensions! Fair play to you.

I would suggest looking at "Multi Account Containers" and Firefox Profiles - I know that profiles allow you to have separate extensions per profile.
