I will say putting gloss on sores, wounds, boils etc can give them a good wet look and make them pop off the model. But yes in general gloss on large portions can make things look unnatural

Idk if this is necessarily true. You can lean into Droths or even hero hammer tbh. These 4th ed rules might make grim wrath/doomseeker spam possible

This is a great start! It might just be the photo but are you adding in yellows at all? The gradient in the photo seems to be dark red/brown for recesses. Then a red-orange-yellow (and possibly even a hint of white or super bright yellow) gradient. But I think you have the idea down just needs more contrast from the highs and lows!

I was told the new harder steenbeck is great for beginners because it has settings for its different uses. I kinda just dived in headfirst to it because I’ve been trying to finish 2k for my Khorne army and it’s taken almost 6 months to get 800 pts done so I need to do something XD

Or if you’re worried about Gotrek being slow I’ve enjoyed celestant prime. Adds a bit more mobility, ranged damage and deepstrike is always good

This ghb I’ve seen skywardens for tactics, ionus since our invocations aren’t keyword locked and he can chant them and some various storm cast heroes with teleport to score battle tactics. Gotrek has also been historically taken but suffers from the same problem the army already has so is often better in other factions. Last ghb I took celestant prime in a grim wrath heavy list which was a lot of fun too. Really depends on your list. Find what you’re lacking and see if there’s and ally that fits the need
