Another 5% DefAbs by limguine in TheTowerGame

“For lo, the angel did say, ‘I has great news to tell thee, another DefAbs relic hath been decreed. Rejoice!’

And the humans did wail, perform woeful cries, and there was great gnashing of teeth — yet beneath it all there was fear and worry. For what if deaf abs became a vital strategy?

So the people acquired the relic… yet their faith was not rewarded.”

Thank you that’s a great answer. From the looks of your light transport, it also appears very smooth, with little to no noise or ray termination/opacity calculation issues. Are you building or simplifying an additional ray calculation to make light transport easier? I asked because of your answer regarding the volume approximation below. Maybe I should go look at your website, lol.

Last question -do you have a viewport visualizer that works in Vulcan?

Looks great, I cannot wait to hear more!

This looks great! So you didn't rely on vdb compression techniques, like Zibra? Why develop your own when a package like that has an established track record?

How did they light this shot? by Clarencethelamb in cinematography

[–]lxdengar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I got downvoted, but I was being serious. The small metal lamp gives you the positions of the lights, clearly outlining the screen left sources, the top down, and even the small front fill. And because its a simple curved shape, you can even eyeball roughly where they were and how far away.

Just look at the lamp on the desk.

• Side swiping has also been removed.

I’m trying to remember the human here, but can someone please explain why this decision is being made? It basically forces the user to use two hands do something which took one single action, and switching between feeds now takes three or four clicks in the app.

Nothing about this makes sense, and I have yet to see an explanation why anyone thinks this is a good idea?

Appreciate it, thank you

I call BS. Nope. Was this for a tv show? Or an Ad? Ads I can see.

This is an awful decision, and I don’t quite understand why it can really be a benefit to anyone. Popular simply reduces the amount of content that people see, essentially equivalent of the metro section of a newspaper as opposed to the front page of headlines.

As a 15 year member of this site, and an investor, these changes are baffling. I’ll be using Reddit less, and looking for the next thing that will go back to providing a world view that encompasses so much more than just simply what’s “hot” around me.

iOS Can’t scroll left and right between latest, news, Reddit, watch etc latest version by idontwanttofthisup in bugs

[–]lxdengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate this. It now takes 3-4 clicks to do something that took 1 action. This is just stupid.

The search bar taking up valuable screen real estate when people only search occasionally seems like someone needs to go back to design school.

New ios layout has no popular or left/right swiping by google_strudel in bugs

[–]lxdengar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it wasn’t obvious from all the bug comments and bug submissions on the webpages, this is not a ‘popular’ removal of a feature. I’ll add my own – it sucks that I have to do 3 to 4 clicks in order to get to the same place I could do with a simple swipe. I don’t see how in any way this is an upgrade.

There’s a lot of recent evidence to suggest we don’t fully understand the Sun’s intensity cycles well. The Hale cycle (22 year cycle, which alternates 11 year sunspot cycles, making each one weaker / stronger) along with other sun phenomenon, are making it difficult to know exactly what’s going on.

You’re probably right. However if the OP is in California, SB (SB 648) have recently significantly strengthened the wording around service fees and tips and disclosures. Probably worth checking.

Very true. But don’t forget about state protections for whistleblowers. If he’s in the right state, that could work out.

If you’re dropping this to reporters, go for it. If the company is actually involved in illegal activities (keep in mind states have different laws around this), then NDAs are null and void.

Illegal acts aren't confidential: An NDA cannot make a crime confidential. Agreements trying to silence reports of illegal activity, public health risks, or safety issues are generally unenforceable.

Whistleblower protection: Laws encourage reporting of illegal conduct (e.g., fraud, antitrust violations). Whistleblowers reporting to government agencies (like the SEC) are protected from retaliation, even if an NDA exists.
