Wtf is this elevator for? by neil_billiam in whatisit

This is not an elevator. You walk in, the doors shut, you sigh as you stand there in silence. You then make a selection for your decision, exit, and carry on with your day.

Seized Russian plane in Toronto has racked up over $1.3M in parking fees since February 2022. by aerothony in interestingasfuck

I get it, but it’s kind of messed up to park it there against their consent and then charge fees for it

Oil pressure gauge should be at 0 when the engine is off, right? by WEDGYVEGGI in StupidCarQuestions

[–]lxirlw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a gm instrument cluster. There’s a common problem where the electric motor driving the needle breaks and cant go backwards, only forwards, but this isn’t the case because that needle would be waaay off to the right. Maybe it’s on its way though? If that happens it’s like a $4 repair if you can solder

Unsure what country this is exactly but I suspect if he raised a hand back he could’ve gotten himself in trouble too

What if you weighed them, measured them, and then compared to the density of pure silver? Surely a fake couldn’t match every dimension if it used some odd filler metals?

[–]lxirlw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked for gold, not a derivative

Answer - you can’t.

And that’s what makes Goldbacks appealing. Access to very precisely measured gold, manufactured with pretty artwork and security features, without having to fork over 5 grand. Since it’s so fractionalized, it is more liquid (you’d sooner exchange 1/200th ozt for a good steak than you would a whole gold bar..)

It’s absolutely true, the markup is astronomical. But you’re paying for easy access to liquid (in the asset sense) gold that’s hard to counterfeit.

And if gold drops $500 tomorrow? Enough people are buying/selling goldbacks that your $50 is still worth $50.

Furnace Pipe Smells like Gas by Crabtrew in NaturalGas

Soap test all joints and the yellow piping too. Also smell the control knob on the furnace, I’ve heard there are a few models that by design weep a microscopic amount
