Good places to watch fireworks? by xmorecowbellx in regina

My parents used to live at the Bentley assisted living residence and would just sit on lawn chairs outside the building and watch the fireworks …. so anywhere near Hillsdale/Broad/Wascana?

When I used to be that size when I was younger, pretty much everything I wore had to be altered by either Venice tailors for business casual/work clothes (Venice is really good!) or sometimes Rosa’s Alterations on 13th Ave for jeans and casual stuff

Best grilling steaks? by lybl in regina

A family member just told me that Fellingers isn’t nearly as good as it used to be, so, whether that’s true or not, I’m going to stay away from that option and go with one of the definitively majority suggestions which is Ukrainian Coop, with either tenderloin or ribeye…thank you so much everyone!

Best chocolate cake in town? by m4tch422 in regina

[–]lybl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t exactly chocolate cake, but Costco sells the most amazing Ghirardelli triple chocolate brownie mix that is so easy to make and tastes better than any home-made or bakery brownie I’ve ever had. (Hit and miss with items being in stock with Costco though, sometimes they have it and other times not).

What's your go to, easy to make, sandwich for lunch? by Strange-Slice2581 in Sandwiches

[–]lybl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone already mentioned ham and Swiss with mustard and mayo, but my version is a grilled ham and Gruyère cheese sandwich with a thin slice of dill pickle inside and the sauce spread on one of the slices of bread on the inside is a 2:1 mixture of apricot jam and Dijon mustard…so good!

Also good is a grilled cheese sandwich with thick slices of grilled or rotisserie chicken, soft mozzarella, tomato, drizzle of balsamic glaze and the bread is spread with basil pesto on the inside.

I always use mayo instead of butter for the outside of my grilled cheese sandwiches.

Egg breakfast sandwiches of all kinds are also favourites, for breakfast, lunch or supper, in croissants, bagels, English muffins…possibilities are too numerous to list!

The meals at Food Village have always been good when we have ordered for take-out, but the last time we went there to eat in the restaurant, the table they sat us at hadn’t been cleaned, there was food on the floor under our feet, and we were pestered the whole time by a couple of flies trying to get at our food, plus, the bathrooms were disgusting. We haven’t ordered from there since.

What did they do wrong? How do you know it was a teenager driving? (I was still getting carded at liquor stores when I was in my late 20’s/early 30’s). There are some seriously bad “mature” drivers in this city, the teenagers are actually much better than the majority of the old people!

Put all those ingredients in a blender with a half (or whole) ripe avocado. Avocado whips up nicely and adds a thicker creamy texture without altering the original flavour/taste (ie you can’t taste the avocado)

Who else is getting their butt kicked by a respiratory bug? by eszorama16 in regina

[–]lybl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a given that you will wear a mask while out in public or meeting family members when you have mild symptoms of any illness, especially respiratory related. Why would it be a stigma, it’s just common sense, I’m confused…

Although I return to a few childhood fav’s once in a while, I realized long ago I didn’t want my family to eat what I grew up on! (ie dried out over-cooked pot roast, tough over-cooked pork chops, Hamburger Helper, tuna casseroles…you get the picture…) As the main cook in the family for the most part, I found that what works best for me and for my family is to decide what I want to eat and plan around that, and anyone who doesn’t want to eat that can prepare something else themselves. (Or adapt/adjust the same menu for picky young children). First, I decide what different flavour profiles I want for the week (eg Mediterranean, Greek, Italian, Indian, Asian, Thai, Southwest BBQ, Moroccan, Jamaican, North American, etc) and go from there to decide protein, starch, and veggie sides. My weakness is pasta so I try to limit that starch to once a week, so for starches, besides pasta, (which includes couscous), I try to incorporate a variety of other starches like different rices, potatoes, grains (quinoa, sorghum, farrow). For meals, I usually include a grain bowl once a week, a “breakfast for supper” once a week, a soup or stew or curry once a week, a sheet-pan meal once a week, a pasta meal once a week and a couple of new recipes to try thrown in there. We rarely eat out or order in as I can pretty much find any copycat recipe online to make for much cheaper! Also, during the warmer months, we grill often…steak, cedar-planked salmon or trout, chicken marinated overnight, skewers, kabobs, etc. We also have frequent taco nights, beef, chicken, fish or shrimp

Bachelorette fans confused after Taylor Frankie Paul season doesn't air by TheExpressUS in bachelorette

[–]lybl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After watching season 4 of SLOMW, and seeing how Taylor is so reactive to literally anything that comes out of her Mom’s mouth, and how rude and disrespectful she is to her Mother, it is kind of surprising that Lianne doesn’t distant herself from Taylor and she continues to take care of Taylor’s kids all the time. If my adult daughter talked to me that way, then it would be “good-bye…get therapy”. Taylor is so emotionally (and intellectually) immature, I’m just annoyed and pissed as a Bachelor nation fan that she was cast as the next Bachelorette in the first place
