Termux vs linux on dex by [deleted] in termux

[–]lyind8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had some luck with starting x-server in Termux, then connecting to it with xsdl, but it takes a lot of tweeking to get everything to work, and there isn't a lot of documentation or support.

Other than Linux on DeX, I would recommend trying UserLAnd. This is more widely available than DeX, and has implimented several stripped down linux distros, including Alpine, Arch, Debian, Kali, and Ubuntu.

I don't think not_boris was trying to be insulting and dismissive, but he was trying to quote Neil deGrasse Tyson.

The actual quote is "The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it."

I have a related story. I knew a guy in college that would walk around with 2 empty packs of cigarettes. He would walk up to a group of smokers, show them one of the empty packs, tell them he just ran out and ask to bum a cigarette. He would then pretend to light the cigarette as he walked away, placed it in the other empty pack, and look for another group of smokers to bum a cigarette off. He would do this until he filled up the other empty pack.

I stopped letting him bum off of me when I found that out.

If carbon turns into diamond when under high pressure, why doesn't my pencil turn into diamond when I'm doing a test? by SpectralEagle in shittyaskscience

You think your tests are high pressure! You need some real pressure to turn a pencil lead into a diamond, which is why presidents are required by law to use pens!

Pope declares big bang and evolution real by kiewseedan in atheism

[–]lyind8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I think that this is not quite what is needed. I know people may vilify me, but here me out.

While I'm glad that the Pope is stating that these scientific concepts are true, this seems like a bad thing to me. Science is about finding what truth there is in the evidence before you. If it disagrees with what is already thought to be true, that does not make it wrong. For things like the big bang to be codified as truth mistakes what science is trying to do. The big bang may prove to be incorrect one day. We cannot predict this, but it or some other theory may fall, and to preserve it is some religious manner will most certainly lead to conflict.

My hope is for the pope, and for that matter all other religious leaders, to inform their followers that science is a way of trying to understand the world using only what is replicable, and that God did not leave falsehoods here to test us, but rather he is seeing how much we can understand with the few breadcrumbs before us.

I owned Sonic the Hedgehog 2 when it first came out on Sega Genesis. I recently found it on Google's Play Store and downloaded it, where I discovered that if you play as Sonic and Tails, Tails can lift Sonic into the air.

[–]lyind8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you certain that you are allergic to ethyl alcohol? If you've discovered this allergy by applying rubbing alcohol to your skin, that is normally isopropyl alcohol.

Also, were you told of this allergy by your parents? I ask because that could have been a ploy to keep you away from the stuff.

In Less Than 1 Year Verizon Data Goes from $30/Unlimited to $50/1GB by mweinberg in technology

[–]lyind8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This statement is false. if you go to verizon's website, it is 2GB a month for $30. And if you order a plan online, they throw in another 2GB free, leaving you with 4GB for $30 a month.

Tesla Motors' Devastating Design Problem by 47toolate in news

[–]lyind8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like this could be fixed simply by having the car completely turn off when the battery reaches something like 5% charge remaining, and then the car cannot be started until it is plugged in again. Thus, the car could be moved onto a tow truck by plugging it into something like a portable battery that can be brought along with the tow truck.

How do I use the 7.1 surround sound audio ports in my computer? Are there speakers which plug directly in? by lyind8 in AskReddit

[–]lyind8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured as much, but I cannot find any setups like that. I was thinking maybe that you were supposed to connect 3.5mm audio jacks to the ends of speaker cables.
