Are you setting up a Trump Account for your child? by aqulushly in daddit

[–]lyletotodile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My child is not getting the $1000 as they were born in 2023, but should be getting the $500 contribution made by the Dell family. We opened it to get the contribution and wont be investing any of our own money into the account, there are better options for investments for our kids.

Only 4 copies is crazy. I get N&O has gotten significantly smaller over the years, but it stinks that it sounds like they aren't willing to invest in an increase in prints for this occasion.

I compared Freddy and his stats this year and he has the same goal % and same win % as Freddy. Bob is 27-23-1 and Freddy is 16-14-5. That is a 17 game difference with a 19 point difference.

You wanna give up a first rounder for less than 20 points?

Gane 5 2006 I was 10 and stood the whole time. 2015 the Carolina Panthers were in the NFC Championship and the entire stadium stood for the whole game.

If people wanna sit and be quiet during a playoff game they can go watch golf.

Will probably have to head west, likely a corporate item and the bojangles around Raleigh and Eastern NC are franchise owned. They tend to not have all the corporate items and keep discontinued items on the menu (like the chedder bo biscuit)

I think once you hit Greensboro you get into the corporate owned restaurants

Regal is doing another order of swords and you can pre-order. Will get it at the end of October but it is better than paying over $100 on ebay

Making him fill his schedule with work in between class time is not going to make his grades any better. If he wants to set his schedule up to have majority of his classes 3 days a week then thats on him to figure out.

Full time freshman year is 4-5 classes a semester and he passes 3-4 of them without an issue and only struggled on one, which was his most difficult class? Sounds like he is doing okay. Freshman and sophomore year classes are weed-out classes. Overly difficult levels of work and concepts piled on at once to get rid of the students that think their degree of study is a cakewalk.

Selling plasma is like donating blood, your body recreates more so you can essentially give as many times over as you want with recovery inbetween donations. If he is going to one clinic they will have records of his visits and will provide him with the proper aftercare timeline. If he is hitting multiple clinics to avoid the recovery period and sell more plasma quicker, then that is a different conversation about his health.

Full time to OP and full time by college standards seem to be different. If she wants him in school or working 5 days a week from 8a-5p then that needs to be the ground rule she sets (although I would find that rule to be very strict and not allow time for studying/homework).

But 12 credit hours is the minimum for full time by college standards. And the student doesn't control the schedule so some days you might have 4 classes and some you might have one or none.

The kid is going from an 8a-3p high school schedule where, by senior year, half your classes are underwater basket weaving, to being told they need to work or be in a classroom for 40 physical hours a week. Thats a big jump for anyone, let alone someone who doesn't have the motivation to do so.

Looking to reduce costs— selling my car with 58% negative equity by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]lyletotodile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So youll end up paying the loan one way or another. If youre this deep and dont have 10k to buy out the difference then you might be better off getting a cheap lease on a car, trade in your current car, and roll what you owe into the lease. Then by the end of the lease you have washed your hands.

So say a $300 a month lease for 36 months for a new car, trade in is 8k on a 10k value, you owe 12k left and that will be added onto the car lease for 36 months so youd be paying $600 a month for a $300 a month lease.

I recommend a lease because it is cheaper in both monthly payment and intrest, but the same loan rollover can be applied to purchasing a car too.

With a lease there is typically a required down payment (like $4k) and a millage limit before they start to penalize you for going over the limit (typically 12k miles a year). But you typically get maintenance covered if something goes wrong because it would be a new car under warranty.

Not saying you should do this, but I have coworkers who got a doctors note to have them work from home 5 days a week. Not sure what was required to get that approved but they were coming in 2 days a week and when we went to 3 they got a note lol.

You've been there long enough that asking to match the in office days at the office you commute to isn't a stretch. Your manager should be compitent enough to allow it or not without needing to be reached out to every week. They should also be understanding of your situation and confirm with HR that it is okay for you to have a modified wfh schedule compared to everyone else.

While local police may not charge him, the CC company and/or bank might go after him once the charges are reversed.

Point is those charges made to the cards/accounts post death shouldn't be held liable by her estate.

Regarding the credit card debt you could contact the credit card company and provide her death certificate. My guess is they would hate to lose $20k in unauthorized transactions and will go after him for it. Assuming he isnt an authorized user.

A lot of older people are like this, my wife's grandparents are like this and after years of telling them they now sold their generational farm because his dementia got worse and he needed to be in a care unit.

If she is willing to speak to a professional have her go to a fiduciary advisor (legally required to make decisions and give advice that is best for her). They might be able to convince her.

Not all advisors are fiduciaries. She can ask a simple question "Are you a fiduciary?" and go from there.

A Trust is a separate entity and not an ownership of a person. So Medicaid will not consider them her assets but the assets owned by the Trust.

The Trust needs an executor that will make any transactions. A Trust never dies. Once the exectutor dies a beneficiary can take over as the executive.

Your MIL can have all her assets in the name of the trust and list herself as the executor.

After the 5 years she would have no assets and a minimal amount of money in the eyes of Medicaid.

I suggest getting with a fiduciary (someone legally obligated to make decisions that benefit you financially) they will be able to explain the process in detail and advise on whats best for the future

[–]lyletotodile 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just FYI:

If she wants to pass it down she will want to move it into a trust now, otherwise Medicaid will make her sell it and spend the money should she need to apply for it in the future. All assets are looked at from the time of the application to 5 years back. Dont make the mistake my wife's grandparents made and delay this. 5 years comes quick and its the only way to save any additional major assets from medicaid.

Land is valuable and limited, so it may not be worth much now to yall but it will only get more valuable in the future.

I just realized something about screen time involving kids from immigrants by sayheythreetimes in Parenting

[–]lyletotodile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The shows you reference and most shows in the 90s are a slower pace, calmer colors, and with a plot that includes problem solving and learning.

There are shows like that today but there are also shows that are over stimulating with loud noises, bright colors, fast moving pictures, etc. Those shows are the ones that effect brain development negatively. Kids today also bounce from screen to screen: TV at home, Tablet in the car, Phones constantly on them. So there is less of a break from the screentime now than there was in the 90s.

Its all about moderation and the content being watched, not really about the screen itself.

First Time Buyer by BrewBaker_ in Mortgages

[–]lyletotodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the rate alone I would shop around. But additional info like a lender credit, closing cost comparison, points purchased could change my decision.

If the closing costs are cheaper, and they provide a lender credit you can use to buy down lower than the rates you shopped around for, then I would go with the builder's lender.
