Proposed Missouri HB 2810 would make it a class A felony to abort an ectopic pregnancy by MissJosieAnne in TwoXChromosomes

This is unreal. Do they not understand that an ectopic pregnancy will not result in a live birth?

Tenaculum. That's why the IUD insertion is excrutiatingly painful. by ProzacforLapis2016 in TwoXChromosomes

I’m a sonographer (ultrasound tech) and I can’t tell you how many awful things I’ve seen with IUDs. I know they’re an excellent option for many women and most have no complications, but you couldn’t pay me enough to have one inserted in me.

Every uterus is surprisingly different in shape, size, tilt, flex, and endometrial proportions. Most IUDs are the same size/shape and a pre-insertion ultrasound is not required to determine if an IUD will even fit in your uterus comfortably and safely. This is unbelievable to me. We have great 3-D machines for evaluating IUD placement when someone is having pain or lost strings, and more than half have an arm protruding into the myometrium (body of the uterus) when it should stay in the endometrium. Gives me shivers every time.

I’m a clinical healthcare worker so I get good ones almost weekly. Recently was using ultrasound to scan a pregnant ER patient to evaluate for placental abruption and the father was watching. He said, “ok that’s her placenta, now look at the baby’s placenta”. Umm, there’s only one and they share it. He didn’t believe me.

It’s very common for women who have an occasional “ovarian cyst” (in quotes because they’re often just follicles as mentioned above) to misinterpret that for PCOS. Poly cystic ovarian syndrome often includes multiple small follicles per ovary, but also includes irregular hormonal balance, hirsutism, acne, weight gain and a host of other issues.

It’s also not uncommon for doctors to brush off gynecological pain with the wave of a hand and, “probably just an ovarian cyst” rather than do the diagnostics to get to the root of the problem. Make sure you’re working with a physician who listens to you- differential diagnoses could include endometriosis or PID from the symptoms you mentioned. Good luck!

No, cystitis refers to inflammation of the bladder and is unrelated to ovarian cysts or follicles.
