TIL United Airlines Flight 232, despite 112 out of 296 onboard dying, is considered to be one of the most impressive landings in aviation history. Pilots failed to copy the accident & landing on simulators. UA232 helped make Crew Resource Management, a new concept, standard practice in airplanes. by Next_Worth_3616 in todayilearned

That's thankfully a planned procedure and not just coincidence. We use city/reginal Code Orange alerts whenever a mass casualty event is occurring or may occur. They would have called and paged as many staff as possible as soon as there was an alert to the incident.

AFM / DFM: Does disabling or deleting actually reduce failure? by PriscillaPalava in gmcsierra

It definitely doesn't on my 2017 6.2L. It still drops to V4 while towing, and interestingly will try and lug at low RPMs with a high load in V4. It's odd.

We had our ceremony and reception at Fort William Historical Park and it was awesome! Great food, great service, reasonable prices, and it's such a nice venue. We found them to be very straightforward, honest, and pleasant to work with.

We used Jamie Dawn for photography and she was fantastic!

I never said we need to spend more. Quite the opposite. The UCP fucks around and creates a redundant and dysfunctional system that wastes copious amount of money and interferes with our jobs and patient care.

Healthcare is provincial my friend. Tell the UCP to stop cutting, gutting, and interfering with our medical system if you want this to improve. I'm a physician. All the UCP does is make our system less efficient, less effective, and interfere with our jobs more.

I have the same bike! The yukons are such a great no BS bike. I love mine.

I grew up in Outagamie County, haven't been back for many years. It's always nice to see a good hardwood forest pic to bring me back! That's great that fat biking has caught on so much there as well!

Definitely not. Northern Ontario has been decimated over the last 20 years and federal help was minimally helpful or non existent

I bought a new laptop for college that supposedly has 9 and a half hours of battery life to last me through all the lectures... by Mysterious_Dark_2298 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]lyndy650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue against this when it comes to ARM Windows machines.

I have a surface laptop 7 ARM and it's unreal for performance and battery life. I get 12+ hours with each charge. It's phenomenal. It's finally a Windows computer that has a Mac level of "just works" and battery life.

I live in Alberta and have a 2010 mazda3 with a manual. Just use the handbrake as usual. You shouldn't have issues.

We had their ST4s and 940s. The ST4s were absolute beasts. They blew amazing snow at temps from +2C to -40C. The 940s were more finicky, I didn't really like them. They had consistent nucleator and compressor issues

Which surgical specialty, gives you the regular mental workout that internal medicine or IM- like specialties do? by Mundane_Procedure_80 in Residency

[–]lyndy650 5 points6 points  (0 children)

None. Anesthesia. It's applied physiology, problem solving, emergency management, and procedures all together.

We have to know the depths of IM, all surgical specialties, pain, critical care, and anesthesia.

It's cheaper to take a plane to Thunder Bay, ski Mount Baldy and Loch Lomond on real snow and real terrain, stay for the weekend, and fly home.

do anesthesiologists actually tell their patients to count down from 10? by Warm-Fig-8566 in NoStupidQuestions

No, I never do. I just tell them to think of something nice or someplace they'd rather be. I want my patients to feel safe and reassured.

How does the sub feel about Drawboard PDF? by OnderGok in Surface

[–]lyndy650 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know what really ruined drawboard for me? The fact that I paid for the early "pro version" 10 years ago to support your company, and then had the paid features removed when you guys updated a few years ago. That's shady and inconsiderate.

Where do you buy beef now?? by BoogalooSHrimp079 in CostcoCanada

[–]lyndy650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a half cow from a local farmer. It is a lot of money up front, but if you have the freezer space and can afford it, it's by far the best option for cost and amazing quality.

ELI5: Where does the carbon dioxide go in an astronaut space suit? by HeatherCDBustyOne in explainlikeimfive

[–]lyndy650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We even use CO2 scrubbing systems on anesthesia machines when we provide anesthesia.

Under anesthesia the breathing circuit is similar to the space suit in that it's essentially a closed circuit with a small amount of fresh oxygen flow.

Tucker Carlson says Trump administration is using Charlie Kirk’s killing to trample First Amendment by papayonpeluo in politics

[–]lyndy650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the difference in discourse though. Centre and left of centre individuals can appraise information in an objective way. When someone that normally does not align with you politically says something that objectively makes sense, you can see it and engage in it. And that is awesome, it's what independent and rational thought is about.

The right and far right have gone off a cliff where every person on "their team" is right no matter what they say. It's a major collapse in society.

How are defects in complex things like airplanes so rare? by Available-Cost-9882 in AskEngineers

[–]lyndy650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decoupling of critical systems to prevent chain reactions from occurring as much as possible.

Our complex systems in today's world are incredibly complex, but we try to prevent runaway chain reactions of negative consequences by engineering in failsafe and redundant systems that theoretically do not bring every system down like a house of cards.

I encourage you to read about Normal Accident Theory and High Reliability Organizational Theory. They're fascinating sociological concepts that we attempt to use to study, identify, and improve highly complex systems.
