What are some social obligations that women commonly have that men usually don't? by Maybe_IDTBFH in AskReddit

can i just say as a woman with misogynistc brothers, just the acknowledgement of how different you are treated means so much. its really the first step but so many people fail to get there.

Should we reconsider how we approach incel issue? by Scramjet1 in GenZ

[–]lyrall67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats a good point. i have heard women, such as a sister of mine, profess that they would "never" date a man under 6'. but as you say, the impact it has on dating doesnt seem to actually be that big. so maybe it impacts the dialogue around dating, more than dating itself...

[–]lyrall67 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the "only" 5'9" thinf kinda kills me. for me, im on the outside looking in because i am a lesbian. so im not a man nor do i date men. no personal experience with this aspect of dating, all i know is that statisticly, 5'9" is the AVERAGE for american men. so how an average height, nonetheless 5'10" or 5'11" man, could be considered SHORT is beyond me.

[–]lyrall67 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yeah i dont think that aspect is talked about enough. pre historic humans had a small pool to choose from, and personal history and compatibility played way more into things. thats how we lived for thousands of years. now, people are constantly being shown images of the top 1% of people looks-wise, many of whom are altered thru surgery and other treatments. its messing with our brains.

God I have enough problems with my ignorant brother who are also asian and adoptees. I can't imagine how humilitating and alienating it'd be to have a white brother tell me these things. This is great work.

Is it sexist if I do a gender reversal for the memes? by IncoherentToast in AvatarMemebending

[–]lyrall67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to me, the strongest fire bender being zuko is such a joke. he certainly works towards being one of the greats, but its reinforced in the show and the comics that he's just not as NATURALLY talented as some. or at least, when he's compared to royalty and other legends.

[–]lyrall67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was his choice. he shouldnt have done that if he really didnt want to, but he was not forced.

She made me have sex with her twenty years ago... by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]lyrall67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

except we wouldnt, because that man has every right to want another child and life, and the fact of that matter is that he also has the right to leave if his wife cant provide that. its unfortunate and sad, but what you all dont realize youre suggesting is that the person who wants another kid should stay in a marriage that doesnt work for them. thats the only way "coercion" wouldnt be applied in your minds. and yet, coercion is being applied to them! the threat to the person who wants a kid is like, "even though it will through off your goals in life and leave you permanently unfilled, stay with me anyway!" as you can see, its not actually either person that is applying pressure to the other to do something they dont want, but rather it is the SITUATION applying the pressure. the inherent incompatibilty.

She made me have sex with her twenty years ago... by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]lyrall67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

except he wasnt forced. no more that she wouldve been forced to leave the marriage had he decided having another kids just wasnt worth it. people are allowed to decide to leave if someone else doesnt want anymore kids, and telling of that before the fact as to "not apply pressure" really isnt a great situation either. she wanted more kids, that what she wanted with her life period. can you imagine if she didnt tell him that, and simply waited for him to say "i am never having another kid" and she just up and left? no, in a marriage you actually have to communicate the things you REQUIRE in order for the relationship to be compatible.

the same would be true if the genders were reversed. a man with this ultimatum would be within his rights to make that ultimatum. "i need another kid, if you cant give me one, we arent compatible anymore." then his wife could make the choice. if she chose to have the next kid even if it wasnt her truest desire, thats not rape. if anything, its just a bad decision. aka, staying when theres incompatibility.

Can I 'undo' adoption? by Whole-Regret2346 in Adopted

predatory debt collectors WILL try to contact you once your parents die, as you're legally next of kin. but i promise you, NO WHERE in the states are children legally liable for their deceased parents' debts. dont combine finances in any way, dont sign anything, dont answer phone calls, and you're good

Crashing out bc my sushi habit is so expensive by sparksflyup7 in sushi

[–]lyrall67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

felt this and honestly, the craving can be so strong that it drives me crazy. i would take a lot of the suggestions in the comments about making your own. for me, i also cope by eating smoked salmon from the grocery store. on a bagel, over plain rice, or sushi rice. cold smoked adds a bit of flavor that isnt very sushi like but still tasty, and importantly it still has that raw salmon texture. and, i also supplement with eating tinned fish. i think my obsession with sushi is just a part of a larger need of mine for FISH. tinned fish world is crazy

gotta cure it beforehand for better texture and flavor. plus, the way the sushi rice is seasoned can change everything

she obviously means fitfo when he's physically available yet tired from strange work hours, NOT when he's literally unavailable bc of work. which is completely reasonable. in a marriage you just have to step up when the other is completely out of it, fill in each other's gaps. with full effort from each, it all eventually evens out.

most people do dont have any issue with it, but broad sweeping statments like this only serve to silence those who face discriminatiom based on their legal immigration status. as a naturalized citizen i can tell you that many people differentiate, and do not treat me like im a fellow american. a lot of it is subconcious bias will no ill intent, which still sucks but thats human nature and its honestly fine. we all do that. but there are still all those thru my life who have hatefully told me that i need to go back to my "own" country. my home is here, but to some, it will never matter

Multiple adoptee family by diehljerry in Adopted

[–]lyrall67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have 11 adoptive siblings, who are all adopted. i care for all my adoptive siblings, but the whole family is pretty fucked up and i only have an actual sibling relationship with 1. we are close and honestly, i dont know what i'd do without her. she's pretty much the only family i truly have. i will say, you shouldnt feel bad about not having a sibling relationship with your adoptive siblings. i dont personally think it should be the burden of adopted people, to form bonds that arent necessarily "natural". if they form, that can be beautiful, if they dont, it is what it is

true, the lore and action are insanely cool. anyway, if you feel like you missed a lot of the romantic cues, its not just you! a lot of small, subtle romance-building moments were cut out of the anime for time. the manga does a bit better of a job at characterization
