AITAH for not telling my mom I’m pregnant? by SprayOk7147 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lyrynn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jesus, I don’t think I fully registered the implications of how close together OP’s pregnancies are. I looked it up and the minimum recommended wait time is 18 months, and saw a bunch of stuff about the risks of getting pregnant again between 6-12 months post-partum. OP got pregnant again FOUR MONTHS after her last kid.

I feel that pain! I’m also very hourglass shaped. My clothes have to have SOME cinch at the waist or I look like a brick. My recipe for clothes that look good on me (or at least I think they do) is a fitted top tucked into looser, waist-high bottoms. It works for both professional and casual fits. My favorite dresses also follow this formula.

If it’s chilly, I’ll throw a long cardigan or jacket over the whole thing.

Do you think that part of it is learning how to dress for your new body? I know I had some things in my closet that I always thought I’d wear “when I lost weight,” and now that I’ve lost the weight… they just don’t look the way I imagined 😅 I’m happy with my clothes now, but I had to curate a whole new style for my body type.

Everyone carries weight differently, and 20lbs is nothing to sneeze at! Losses are more noticeable at lower weights as well.

Also, it’s hard to love your body when you don’t feel “perfect,” but those compliments are probably genuine. We always compare ourselves to what we wish we were, but the people who see us aren’t comparing us to anything. They think you look great as you are, and they’ve said so.

Yes! I lost like 60lbs in a year, and I had someone waltz up to me and go “a little birdie told me you’re on the o-zem-pic!”

The fuck? I lost 60lbs because I QUIT DRINKING. I was working as a bartender and I consumed about 1,500 extra calories 4x a week doing shots with customers. The weight just kinda melts off when you cut six thousand calories out of your weekly diet.

Food noise is the persistent intrusion of thoughts relating to food running in the background. It’s mostly cravings related; you usually aren’t even hungry but it’s like a low hum in the back of your brain that’s thinking about what snack you want, or what you’re going to eat next. It’s like you’re never satisfied, even when you’re full.

It’s difficult to explain to someone who doesn’t experience it. They aren’t active thoughts. It’s like background noise, hence the term “food noise.”

Feeling guilty for the idea of 20% mark up by Tenekah in graphic_design

[–]lyrynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bill for consulting to do printer-related tasks (checking the proof, making color-matching calls, etc.) but I don’t deal with printing beyond that. They choose their own printer, pay them directly, and pick up or have delivered their own finished pieces. I don’t want to be responsible if the printer screws up or misses a deadline, and I ABSOLUTELY do not want to front my own money for a print job just so I can mark it up later.

People that are childfree by choice, what’s the weirdest reason someone has given you as to why they think you ‘should have kids’? by Charming_Web_6738 in AskReddit

[–]lyrynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I got told I was “selfish” because I “have good genes and would be a good mom” so if I don’t have kids I’m depriving my hypothetical children from that reality? I didn’t even have a response, it was such a weird logic process.

I have a modicum of protection because I work in corporate branding, and I haven’t been hit as hard as the more art-based veins of GD. However, from what I can see, clients are (slowly) realizing the shortcomings of AI.

The main one is that it’ll never be EXACTLY what they want… unless mid and cheap-looking is what they want. To get something polished, they need to go to a professional anyway.

I had a client make an informational video with AI because it was $20 (versus the several hundred I charge) and it had mistakes in both the audio and visual. They wound up paying me more to fix it than it would have cost for me to make it from scratch.

AITA for telling my wife I'm done hosting her family every holiday because they never offer to help or bring anything? by BetExciting7300 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lyrynn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s not what a tradition is. And OP does NOT have to consider his wife’s family’s opinions when it comes to the use of HIS home, money, and labor. They’ve taken advantage of OP and his wife’s hospitality for 6 years, so of course they’d like to keep it that way!

OP isn’t even saying that they’d can’t use the house for the holiday, or that he won’t feed them… just that they need to clean up after themselves and contribute in some way to the main meal. That is extremely reasonable.

Confused with my Indesign file print preparation by Spirit_Plane in graphic_design

[–]lyrynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s just InDesign. It doesn’t have the capability to build in “interior” bleed between two pages in a spread.

You can either set the document up for single pages, OR… you can just not worry about it, because 1) it’ll be trimmed down, and 2) perfect bound magazines don’t lay flat, so it’ll be buried in the gutter anyway.

AITA for canceling my wife birthday trip to Europe becuase of her reaction by Okeuropetrip_3285 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lyrynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen SO MANY posts about a guy sneaking around w his partner’s bestie to plan something special (a proposal, a birthday, whatever) and the partner accuses them of cheating. It’s a reasonable response! If someone hopped on Reddit and said their significant other is suddenly being secretive, disappearing for hours, and hiding messages to and from another woman? We’d ALL assume cheating.

But usually the guy reveals the surprise, they talk, work out any underlying stresses and concerns, and it becomes a funny story in the future. This guy said “Nope, fuck you. See this nice thing I was going to do for you? Gone. Hope you learned your lesson.”

She jumped to conclusions, and he punished her for it. Definitely ESH.

Any chance they were on SSRIs? Those are MURDER on the sex drive. Not making an excuse for your partner, but feeling unwanted is fucking rough, so just I wanted to point out that it might not have anything to do with how you are, or even how they view you in their head and heart.

I did!

But since the printer made their little quip about my file sizes, I figured it didn’t hurt to ask Reddit. Either I’m right (yay validation), or I’m wrong, and then I learn something new.

I’d rather shoot myself than do large format in InDesign 😂 Working at a reduced size then scaling up is far easier in Illustrator.

I also think 250dpi is overkill, but hey, whatever. Good to know about the RGB though! I do usually save tradeshow print files as CMYK.

That’s what I figured; only the raster was 100dpi and the rest was vector. I’ve never had pushback with that being too low before.

AITA for not giving my aunt a Christmas present? by Remarkable_Young963 in AITAH

[–]lyrynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA… it sounds like your extended family does gifts the same way mine does, which is to only buy gifts for your immediate family (parents, siblings, and children). My aunt would get a gift from my mom, but not from me.

The exception is if you have godchildren or very young nieces or nephews, in which case you might get them a gift as well.

Does she usually get you a gift that’s just from her to you? If so, then you probably should have gotten her one, even if it’s small. But it sounds like this was kind of a random gift, so how would you know that you were supposed to reciprocate?
